ADAPTEC DVPICS PLUS RETAIL KIT | |

| Product Reviews from Amazon.com (Rating System 1 to 5) |
| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Good card, software is so-so The card works great. I highly recommend it. I've been using Adaptec hardware for 20 years, and Adaptec is the standard that everyone else try's to follow.
The software (or utilities) that comes with this package is so-so. Very very entry level and should not be considered a complete solution if your expecting to "Capture" and "Edit" video. The capturing part works fine, I had no problems or lockups, but it captures all your video from the camera into 1 file in *.mpg format.
The Editor Adaptec provides is crap. Conversely the editor I use, Adobe Premier (Elements or Pro) does a much better job at capturing and works fine with this card. Premier Elements is a really great program for the money (about $89). Adobe captures the video in separate files (each scene that you started and stopped the camera) in *avi format which doesn't have the video quality loss problems of *.mpg. Breaking up the video this way was very important to me since my first project with this system had 5 hours of raw video from 5 tapes which would be difficult to organize if it were captured in only 5 files (5 hours) using the Adaptec software.
Nevertheless, if I were to choose again. I'd still buy this package with the software as some of the programs come in handy once and a while. You pay about a $20 premium for the additional software which, to me, is worth the extra money. Understand that Adaptec is not trying to provide a total solution, just something simple you can use that covers the basics, and the package as a whole achieves that goal.
Get the Adaptec 4300 Firewire Card with or without the software and Adobe Premier Elements (or Pro if you can afford and need it) and you'll have pretty much everything you need.
-Brad | 5 | Today | Extra software is not worth it This is basically the 4300 firewire card plus some extra software.
The card works well, but the software is not up to standard.
Sonic MyDVD crashes when I try to capture more that 10 minutes of movie from my DV camera. ( It runs out of memory, since it can't convert the data fast enough into mpeg2 for the dvd.) Also if you want to put an AVI file on the DVD, it will only allow a maximum of 60 minutes of video.
Also included was ArcSoft ShowBiz for video editing. However when converting from an AVI to MPEG2 using this (to get around the 60 minute video limitation, see above) to video freezes half way through.
After trying a few products I purchased Nero 6 to record the movies onto DVD. | 3 | Today |
