Found a generic at Radio Shack , however, that worked just fine and was quiet for about the same price. 2 Today Great, but some static interference Product does everything it says. It does tend to have a little more static interference than just using it on battery power, but not all the time and not enough to make it annoying. 4 Today Alternative models for the Sony radio After reading these reviews I decided to try a different adaptor for the Sony radio I purchased from Amazon. The first one I purchased from RadioShack produced the same type of interference as was reported by several people here. I returned that one and purchased a different model which works fine with the Sony radio and produces no interference. The model that works is RadioShack 273-1765. It is a 4.5 V - 700 mA AC-to-DC Adapter. This model costs $ 22.99. 1 Today Do Not Buy for AM Radio Had same problem as others with this power supply as it imparts loud interference due to being a switching supply. It will not work with AM radios yet this is the accessory that Amazon lists for the Sony ICF-M410V portable radio. It even states this on the package but not in the ads. 1 Today Not compatible The Sony AC-E45A AC Power Adaptor is presented as being compatible with the Sony ICF-M410V portable radio. The web site advertisment encourages you to buy the adaptor if you buy the radio by offering a package. Reality is that the adaptor causes the radio to have unacceptable noise and static. What is worse is that the notes on the reverse side of the Sony AC-E45A power adaptor carton say, "Do not use this adaptor with a radio as it may cause some noises." Obviously, had I been aware of the notes on the backside of the carton, I would not have purchased the adaptor and probably not the radio as well. 1 Today Do not use with AM radio The wrapping for this adaptor states that it is not for use with a radio, since it will cause interference. That is so. Amazon should not recommend this for use with the Sony partable radio. But it is OK for FM and TV audio. 2 Today Great Product This product does just what it says it will do. I use it to copy stuff from tape recorder into computer and save on battery power. Shipping was a little pricey (which boosted the overall price), but product could not be found locally, so that's okay. 5 Today Sony AC adapter Although this item seemed a bit higher-priced than other AC adapters, the instructions for my new Sony portable CD player specified this model. The instructions even said that using any other model adapter could cause a malfunction. The Sony AC-E45A AC power adapter was definitely worth the cost. Two features are especially nice: #1 The plug in head is slimmer than most adapters. That means it isn't so heavy and doesn't stick out from the wall as far as others. #2 The plug's prongs even fold in when not in use which is more convenient for packing. 5 Today Perfect with CD Player I use this to listen to my cd player at night when im ready to sleep. This adapter is perfect for that & saving money on batteries while using little current. The cord is nice & long as well. 5 Today Completely Worthless When Used As Recommended Both Amazon and Sony present this power supply as suitable for the ICF-M410V Sony Radio. (Check Sony's web page) Only when you receive the wretched thing and go through the slashing, cutting and hacking that modern packaging requires, do you find that this item is completely useless with the radio, emitting a loud hum that drowns out any reception. Now I have to package it up, write and explanatory letter to Amazon, and try to get my money back. Then I'll have to find a power supply that is suitable for the radio. I have a feeling that I am not going to be successful, as one of the other reviewers has found. So now I'm stuck with a radio that will only function with batteries, after it was presented as being compatable with a charger - why else would it have a female input for a DC jack? To say that I am annoyed is putting it mildly.
