| Product Reviews from Amazon.com (Rating System 1 to 5) |
| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Works fine with Macbook Pro Before loading the Kensington drivers I plugged the mouse in to my Macbook Pro and it worked fairly well. To gain more complete capability I loaded the Mouseworks version 2.x drivers from the included CD, but they didn't work properly. Sent email to Kensington customer service and received a speedy detailed reply, targeted to the Mac. Downloaded version 3.x of drivers from the website and everything works great. A minor complaint would be the Mouseworks install CD. It asked if I wanted to download updated drivers from Kensington but apparently wasn't smart enough to download the proper version. Customer service was very good though. Mouse could be more ergonomically designed like some of the Logitech products. So far appears to be a better mouse than the Apple wired Mighty Mouse which had trouble scrolling after just a few months. | 4 | Today | Solid Mouse My old mouse died on me so this was a quick replacement. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was made. It's been about a month, and I have very few complaints with it. Only problem really is the placement of the side buttons, but that is probably because I am used to the Microsoft Intellimouse. Overall, great mouse and I would definitely buy it again for the price. | 4 | Today | First impressions review: Not what I expected I got this mouse for an iMac (Core 2 Duo) because reading all the information and reviews told me: this is the mouse for me. However, this mouse is not what I was expecting. So allow me to comment on any ides you might get from other reviews and the software description.
I thought it would be quiet. The main mouse buttons and scroll button are medium-medium-quiet (which isn't very bad, but I wanted quiet). But the side option buttions are LOUD.
I thought it would be pretty comfortable for my medium-small hands. It isn't bad, but it is kind of tall at the center (the hump is in the middle) and a little wide.
The software was no good. It installed fine on my Mac OS X 10.4.10, but it wouldn't open the preferences it installed in the System Preferences. It said I needed to update the software, which was especially funny since mid-install it asked me if I wanted to download and install a newer version (which turned out to download 2.5), and I did. I had to go to their website and download 3.0, which worked. However, I did not like the configuration of the buttons, and there was no option to make the side buttons do Exposé. It also put an ugly icon of a mouse inside a gear at the top of the menubar (next to the time) which let you know if the single-direction scroll wheel was set to go up-down or right-left. Guess what? Clicking the scroll wheel changes this back and forth, which means no more opening and closing tabs in my web browser with that button. I decided to un-install the software, and now it acts more like a regular Mighty Mouse (excluding the sideways scrolling).
A minor (or not so minor?) thing is that the mouse cord has lead, and it says "wash hands after handling"! Wash my hands every time I touch the mouse wire? Why don't they just use regular rubber or something?
Another minor thing, scrolling the middle wheel a little (so it doesn't actually scroll a notch) makes a sound like the wheel is loose.
Finally, the optical sensor which gives the mouse its location doesn't work on all surfaces it should. I work on a white table that has a kind of matte reflection, and for some reason I cannot find, the mouse doesn't work properly over the part of the table I usually use; I have to use a mouse pad! A funny thing is that a Logitech mouse I have which doesn't work on a raw wood desk (in the same way this one doesn't work on my white table) does work on the white table, and this Kensington mouse does work on the wood table. (The Apple Might Mouse works on both surfaces.)
So, in summary, it is a decent mouse, but it has many areas that need improvement in order for me to consider it a mouse I would recommend or buy again. | 3 | Today | Has excellent "feel" This mouse does what it is supposed to do, but unlike some other ones I've tried, the scroll wheel has a nice "feel"--smooth but just the right amount of click. It works fine on my Macs. | 5 | Today | Mouse is great, with one caveat I have one of these mice for my home computer and one for my work computer. The five programmable buttons are very handy, and of course optical mice are hands-down better than mechanical mice.
However, you have to install software on your computer in order to make it work. On my laptop, installing this software rendered my built-in touchpad mouse unusable. Even the guys at the computer shop couldn't fix this. I finally had to reformat my entire system to get the touchpad to work again. | 4 | Today | Best mouse on the planet Allegiance to a mouse is a bit odd, but this is one thing I couldn't do without. I have four of them and have given half a dozen as gifts. The effective use of 7 buttons w/ popup lists makes it amazing. Not to mention that it can be configured for every application you use.
I was just setting it up for Aperture today, using keyboard shortcuts in the popup menu. I defined several common tasks for the front buttons chording, thus I don't have to take my hand off the mouse, move to a keystroke combo, then back to the mouse. I'd give it six stars if there was such a thing. | 5 | Today | A Great mouse to have!! Well this is the mouse that I now use! It is great and very comfortable. it is also one of the rare mice breed that actually meets my preferencial requirements. It works great and I have ordered three of these things (The other two are being used by some close family members of mine for their computers) They are awesome! | 5 | Today | keep hitting the side buttons I was looking for a 5 button mouse to replace my old one. Its fine as a mouse but the 2 buttons on either side are way too easy to hit accidentally. If you cup the mouse sort of like you are holding a baseball you wont hit those buttons but who uses a mouse like that? Most folks sort of reach for the mouse and put their hand on top of the mouse and that's where you start hitting the side buttons. My old mouse put the buttons closer to the front. | 2 | Today | Not plug and play I got this mouse a few days ago, so I cannot comment on the quality of the mouse itself. However, this is the first USB-mouse I have ever encountered that MUST have an installation CD to work. After installing the software on my portable computer, I realized that my touchpad had stoped working. After a lot of consultaion (I have not advanced competence in computer skills) I figured that the software had unistalled my previous drivers, making my touchpad mouse malfunktion. I had to reistall this, only to realize that now my kensington mouse did not work. After a lot of trouble I finally got it to work, but this is not the way a typically plug and play product such as an USB-mouse are supposed to work in my mind!! | 1 | Today | Excellent and reliable I have this mouse for 4 years, never has any problem, except the rubberized surface warn out, very reliable. I was motivated to write this review as my new Creative Lab Fatal1ty 1010 mouse dead after 3 months, and I need to pay over $30 to get repaired, Forget about it!
This is not fancy, but very reliable. So I buy another kensington wireless mouse, so far very satisfied. | 5 | Today |
