Be aware of ethernet cable issues.
Be aware of ethernet cable issues. Even though the Cat5e spec is for cables up to 300 meters long, you may have issues with a much shorter cable, depending on factors such as the quality of the cable, the connections, bends in the cable, etc. I experienced data loss with a 90 foot cable.

Excellent Product & Value
I needed more speed on my network. I run a home based business and have 8 computers on the network. The computers could handle a large amount of data quickly. The standard speed switches I had could only operate at 10/100. I looked into and purchased two Gigabit Switches (16 and 5 ports). I also purchased the corresponding network adapter cards (that's a no brainer). It was one of the best technology investments I made in 2006.

NO PROBLEM..

Card marked incorrectly
I purchased two cards - one circuit board was marked correctly, the other was marked as a LNE100TX which is only a 100 Mbps card. However, the LED on the card bracket had a label indicating "Gigabit". When I installed the card the driver indicates it is an EG1032 and it links up at 1-Gigabit. Appears that manufacturing mis-marked the cards, although the chip layout is different than my other EG1032. The rub is that tech support will not provide warranty support since they insist it is a 100 Mbps card and will only honor the marking on the card. Other than these issues the card works fine.

NOT WHAT THE BOX SAYS
I bought this product, recieved it the next day as planned but when I opened the box the card that was in there was an incorrect card. Instead of a 10/1000 there was a plain old 10/100. I called customer service they replaced it and sent me a new one. When I got the new one it was the SAME THING a 10/100 card in a box labled 10/1000!!! I called again told them the situation and you know what?? They said that there was nothing else that they could do about it so they refunded my money. You would think they cared about the fact that the cards that are in the G boxes are the wrong cards... I guess not... ALWAY MAKE SURE THE PART # ON THE OUTSIDE MATCH THE PART THAT IS IN THE BOX!!! I GAVE UP AND BOUGHT IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Works well with Windows XP, OpenSUSE 10, and Fedora 5
This card has worked great for me. I bought two of them and use a cross-over cable between two computers for fast transfers. Each of these machines has a standard 10/100 for regular network connectivity. While it's difficult to know if I can realize true 1Gb speed, I know that they definitely transfer files faster than the 100Mb. Pros - They have a price that is hard to beat. - Easy config/install in Windows. New build of OpenSUSE and Fedora 5 recognized and auto configured the devices - Much faster than 100Mb. When connecting to another machine, it seems faster than the local disk! Cons - None really. It just works!

Junk - Zero Stars
I bought two of these adapters. One was used in a win2003 server and did not work. Instead of listing which OS's this should work with, Linksys lazily says that it works with most - That should have been my first sign. The other was used in a P2 450 MHz machine, and died two days later. These were to replace two OLD (circa 1996) network cards that used generic Intel drivers, now those almost 10 year old cards are back in their computers and working fine. This is the second time I purchased Linksys items and the second time I am returning them. Being in I.T. and working with hardware over the last 12 years, I find this situation really poor. I will never buy another Linksys product again.

Linux support - none
Even though this is supposed to work with Linux, I could not get the driver to compile (errors in the driver code). Linksys will not support this card in any form under Linux. If you need a card that works under Linux and is supported, DO NOT USE THIS CARD.

Easy Install - Great Performance
Please note that going to Gigabit will not increase your download speeds from the Internet. The speeds you get from the Internet are based on your connection speed to your Cable/DSL modem. Also please note that most 10/100 cards are MORE than adequate to handle most DSL/Cable speeds. The people out there that have a faster connection to the Internet usually know a lot about these types of things and can weigh for themselves the pros and cons of moving to Gigabit. However, if you have a home network that is running on a Gigabit switch/router/hub and have at least one other Gigabit computer sitting on your network, you will see VERY fast transfers of files between those two computers. Transfers of files between Gigabit computers and 10/100 computers will be the same as before. In other words you have to have at least two Gigabit devices on a Gigabit network to see Gigabit speeds between those two computers. I put this card into my Windows 2000 server and created a Gigabit network with the Linksys EG008W 8 Port switch. The router I use is also a Linksys, the Wireless-G WRT54G. My primary machine copies files to and from my server at speed about 5-6 times faster than they used to. Over all network performance does seem to move a bit faster, but this is likely due to the fact that I have isolated 10/100 machines from the 10/100/1000 machines on the network. Linksys doesn't always have the best prices, but reliability and performance outweigh price for me any day.

Slow down. your going to fast
The is a hot little item. I do not even have a gigabyte network and its already dowloading at 1.5 mb and more. I can download more programs at one time. Its like an overclocked network card.
