| Review | Rating | Last Updated | good one I bought it a month ago, But Idont have time to use it! It should be good! | 4 | Today | Works fine Using it with Comcast cable modem and two computers about 500 feet and 1 floor apart. Works quite reliably, it auto detects the IP and does eveything transparently. My only gripe is D-Link's support seems to be run by underqualified technicians that just give you the run around. Good thing it works fine already, so it's not much of an issue to me. | 4 | Today | P.I.T.A to get working, Poor Tech Support It took me 3+ days to get this thing to work with my notebook. Cannot get it to work with my desktop. Tech support was no help at all. They just had me retrying things I already did. If your not a networking wizard do not buy this router. Newer models don't need the manual setup of this one. | 2 | Today | Never again D-Link I purchased this over a year ago. After constant frustration with lock-ups and reboots, I went and bought the MS access point (which worked flawlessly right out of the box) and threw this one to the IT guys at work. They couldn't get it to work for more than 15 minutes at a stretch either. Then I found a posting about a firmware upgrade on dslreports.com. It was produced, presumably, by the OEM (Gemtek) for the device (see their website). I flashed and it works now, its been up for three days! Shame on D-Link for not providing working firmware; I can't begin to calculate all of the time I wasted with that thing thinking it was something with my network. Though it appears to finally be working, I will never do business with D-Link again. | 1 | Today | Bad choice worked more or less ok, with one major drawback: built-in "firewall" which could not be deactivated did too much protecting me, filling up "intruder list" with packets sent and received by ICQ. After some number of such packets device locks up, and you have to reboot it manually. This is not a "BUG", this is a "FEATURE", it is even in the manual - they say it's for our protection. Do not buy it. | 1 | Today | Great product for the price I have been using this product for a week now and I love it. It works great and has great range and WEP works flawlessly. It took a mere 5 minutes to get setup and running and now I can connect to the Internet anywhere in the house on my laptop. I even went outside and across the street and things still worked good. I have only had minor problems of things not working briefly or getting disconnected for a second, but I figure this is common among all wireless networks. It is nothing major. | 4 | Today | So-so Product, Horrible Tech Support Setup of the product is pretty straightforward, but I had problems with resetting the device (It wouldn't reset), and it continues to drop the connection so that AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger lose the connection. I contacted tech support by email (which is the only way to initially contact them) about both problems. In both cases it was as though the tech support person didn't even read the description of my problem because the response did not address the problem. The reset problem fixed itself, the dropped connection issue is an ongoing problem. I should have sent it back within the first 30 days! | 1 | Today | no range, no wep I am very disappointed in this product, the range is terrible, it doesn't come close to what it claims, I have it in my family room and get poor signal in some places in my kitchen (the adjoining room). Also, I tried to configure wep, it doesn't work, I called tech support and they couldnt get it to work either. Their suggestion, don't use wep. Finally, even when it is working and not using wep and in the same room since the range is so lousy, it seems to freak out my router every once in a while for no apparent reason, the device loosed connectivity and I cant get anywhere, have to reboot :) bottom line, don't buy this... | 1 | Today | I like it but I paid for it very little I paid very little for this unit. For this price I like it: love d-link configuration interface - it has more options than Linksys or SMC - especially cute ones are for port forwarding and virtual servers. You have two Linux boxes at them and you want to ssh to both of them? No problem! Forward port 22 to one of them and some higher port to the other one. Haven;t used it for a long time so I could not tell about stability. If you get it as cheap as I got - for half the price of d-link 900AP - this is a good buy. | 4 | Today | The range isn't as far as I expected 1) I would purchase 802.11b equipment based on price alone if you are looking to stay within the confinements of your home. 2) I forgot the first rule of thumb while setting up this router: always check for firmware upgrades! Download and install! 3) Be prepared for things to go wrong and be patient. 4) I am typing this from my laptop on the opposite side of my house. I can't go much further than 60 feet from where I positioned the router. It is finally working (and I haven't needed customer service... yet) and I am happy. | 4 | Today |
