Excellent choice
I have owned this product for about 4+ years and it is a excellent wireless network. I have the base station and a Microsoft Wireless card in my other computer. Additionally, my wireless HP printer networks off this base station router, and two MacBooks and a Dell Laptop with a Microsoft Wireless card. This Base Station is connected to a cable modem & Vonage modem device without having any down time or having to reboot ever. Very amazed at the 100% uptime, speed, and distance (in a 2100 sq ft/5 bedroom house).

Perfect
I have owned this wireless/wired router for a couple of years and it has been perfect. I couldn't ask for any more.

MS should have stayed in the networking game.
I've gone through so many routers trying to replace my MN-500 yet I've always ended up with the MN-500 back on my desk. I've tried out newer Linksys models which either have connection issues, something wrong with the VPN, or wireless issues. Most of the junk these companies put out they don't even bother to check over, and half of the features do not work properly. The MS on the other hand, it an entry-level router without a very large feature set, but its much more than enough. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big advocate of Microsoft but their hardware is just amazing. In 3 years with this router, I have not had a hiccup on the connection, port forwarding and the firewall are perfect, it even has a log to show you what it has blocked instead of the log Linksys has that shows you what attacks it decided to forward to your LAN. The wireless range is so so, and it lacks of newer wireless securities. Again, the features don't allow for as much customization as newer routers, but the big difference between this and what you'd find for $100 on Amazon is that it works, always. I wish they put out another router beyond the MN-700, because I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

An Old Work Horse.
I purchased a Microsoft MN 500 wireless router when they first came on the market. I'd say that's about 4 or 5 years ago. After some early teething problems which Microsoft corrected with several firmware updates, the router has been operating flawlessly, 24-7. Just like those batteries, "It just keeps running and running and running". Sometimes it goes down in a Florida Light & Power electrical outage, and when the power comes back on, it "clears it's throat" and picks up where it left off...doing it's job of transmitting encrypted wireless signals around house to my three computers. The darn thing works so well, I totally forget the setup procedure, since I haven't needed to check the instruction book in years. But I do remember it was a breeze to set up and get running. Too bad Microsoft stopped selling it and quit supporting it. Their support phone line WAS great, they would answer on the first or second ring. Alas, no more. But if you can pick up a used one for a few bucks it would be a very good deal, assuming the firmware fixes were previously installed.(chances are they were). Mine should still be plugging along 20 years from now.

Nothing but junk
I purchased this router a few weeks ago, and it never did work. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I sent emails to Amazon, and the person I bought it from. They didn't even have the courtesy to reply. Don't think I'll do business with either one again.

Going on for one and half year
I am writing this after using this product for around two years. Excellent product. My Inspiron 8100 has Microsoft's wireless card and PC has D-Link DWL-122. No problem and no downtime at all ( sometimes for months I don't have to touch my router ) . Have been running 128-bit encryption all the way. I was also able to connect to the router running RedHat 9.0 and Fedora 3.0. Overall A+ rating.

Excellent product
I bought this product three weeks ago and I have no complains so far. We have a couple of laptops at home and we were tired of moving cables around. After reviewing some opinions I decided to buy this one. The signal is very good. In addition, using its software package it is very easy to install and configure.

A Great Wireless Router
I bought this router from Amazon based on the reviews I've read after my Netgear router pooped out after about a week and a half. The router couldn't be easier to set up. My whole wireless network was up in about 10 minutes. After I had it up and running, it informed me of a software and firmware update, which was extremely painless, and it was worked flawlessly since. Has good security features. I actually liked the Netgear web-interface better for stuff like MAC address filtering, but this one works too. 2 Thumbs up!

Only for Beginners.
I purchased the MN-500 Wireless Base Station last May and it worked great all summer. In fact, it is the simplest router I have ever used. Setup was simple, quick, and it enabled all the security features automatically, as opposed to using default settings that are easily compromised. However, after three months of using this device, it simply stopped working. The lights did not blink; they all just stayed lit. Technical support was very helpful and sent me a replacement promptly and I was just as pleased with the new unit. Suspiciously enough, this same problem occurred a mere three months later. I will not comment on the technical support the second time around, but they sent me a new router, anyway. The third MN-500 I received was the new and improved version of the product, released with the same features as the MN-700 Wireless Base Station sans wireless-G capabilities. In other words, it was now using a "Commercial-Grade SPI Firewall." To say the least, the new MN-500 not only had the same capabilities as all the other MN-500 Wireless Base Stations I had received, but it was in fact, the SAME router. It did not have any of the additional enhancements that were listed on the box and it used the same firmware version as the previous models. I saw nothing in the router configuration concerning control of the firewall by any means different than was previously available. My understanding (in dealing with LINKSYS products) is that a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall gives you more control over incoming packets than the choice to simply enable or disable the firewall, which is the only choice given for the MN-500. Even when I updated the firmware, I still saw no change to this feature and was very disappointed that it did not give me more advanced controls over my Internet connection. On the bright side, the base station has given me strong wireless connections and I have never received a drop-off in communication between any wired or wireless device with this product. Nevertheless, this product needed to be replaced twice and does not have any of the features a computer user might want. I turned to the WRV-54G Wireless VPN Broadband Router from LINKSYS, and despite its poor remarks here at Amazon.com, I have never had a single problem. (Please note that I update all my firmware promptly upon each release.)
