| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Enclave is amazing Don't let the goofy web site reviews keep you from buying this game.
Chances are they never made it passed the first level.
Enclave is really an amazing game; the character design, levels and graphics are fantastic.
After you complete the 'Light" level you can play as the Dark side which is even better IMO.
I've played this game 4 times from start to finish on both levels, replay value you can't find in most games.
Be warned though Enclave will test your skills in every way you can imagine, but it's worth it.
-Louis | 5 | Today | Not my normal game type I really enjoy this game. In fact, I am buying a second copy right now just so I'll have a back up. I've read some of the other reviews, and while the game still has a good overall rating, I thought I should give my opinion. First of all, I think the graphics surpass every other Xbox game I have, even Morrowing, which is also a favorite of mine. I like the levels, the opponants and the trickiness of it. Its definately not a cut and slash and wade through bad guys that just run right into you to be killed. You really have to think and plan. Yes you die alot. Yes there are no in level save points. And yes sometimes its very frustrating. I for one had to spend hours on some of the hardest levels, but I kept playing. Even in the replay, the game was great. I like the characters you can choose, and how different characters change the levels. I like the different weapons and bombs. Overall, its a game I would not want to live without. | 5 | Today | A very good misunterstood game ! This game got rave reviews from many web sites and I still don't quite understand.
This is a really good fantasy action game. Set in a world where good battle evil (for a change...;), you play the role of different heroes fighting for the light or for the darkness.
Story and background: The best thing about this game is that you start with a quite lengthy compaign where you play one of the five different classes available on the side of good. After every misson you can buy new equiments with the gold found during missions. Once the campaign of good finished, you can restart anew on the evil side where you play the same story but from a different angle. Here is an exemple of such a quest: when you play on the good side, you must escort and protect a merchant at night in a small village where in the evil campaign you must assassinate this same merchant who is quite well protected. I would say 5/5 for the story, the length of the game and the for playing the same story on both sides.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are very good even if this game is starting to date. I would say 4/5 by today stardards.
Sound: The sound is very good and is a good 'mood-setting'. 4/5
Controls: The controls are very good although they might be hard to get used to at first. There aren't a lot of possible combo to do with each classes though. 4/5
Any 'Lord of the Rings', or fantasy fans should try this game. It is a very good action game at a very low price ! No reason not to try ! | 5 | Today | Oh, let there be an Enclave 2! What can I say? This game is great. If you like difficult games, this is THE ONE GAME you really need to get. But, be forewarned, some levels are really hard. In those cases, you really do need to come up with clever strategies in order to pass them. | 5 | Today | Great Graphics.... First, let me say, Enclave has beautiful graphics. But after playing it awhile, I found myself frustrated by my inability to generate my own character, or to be able to start out with a character of my own gender (female). True, later on, you can select a new character at each level, but after a while, I just found myself NOT caring about playing any further. I prefer games with a little plot and a LOT more diversity at the get go. Enclave just failed to grab my interest. | 2 | Today | A little struggling never hurt anyone First off, this game has great graphics. The fact that you can play in both first and third is GREAT! I have read that in order to save a game you must pass a level, and a lot of people seem to not like this. I loved it! It made me try harder with different characters on the levels! This is a game that wants you to try to pass levels in different ways. TRY being the key word here. The levels are not all that long so it's not all that bad when you die. Music was good. It did not get on my nerves, but rather put me in the mood to play and go further through the levels. Bottom line for this game: You wanna play a game that wants you to TRY different things in it's game play? Get this game! | 5 | Today | For the patient gamer Enclave is a 3rd person Action game, in the spirit of Blade of Darkness and Rune, but with better graphics. In terms of gameplay, there is a big difference though. Enclave seems to have a better story, that keeps you well involved for good part of the game. The problems start however with the total lack of an in-game save. Enclave is not a hard game, but it's a very frustrating one. Most of the time you'll die not because you're not skilled enough, but because of something you can't predict (being killed with an arrow by somebody you don't see, etc). Developers want you to replay those levels and very soon you realize why. This game is really not that long and without this 'cheating', any skilled player will finish it really fast. Second frustration element comes from the fact that in order to progress and do more damage, you have to gain gold and then buy better weapons, between missions. Also, between missions you have to choose which character you want to use for that level, which leaves place for a lot of guessing, since you're never given info on what's ahead. Overall, Enclave may be worth buying at this price, especially if you are a very patient player, with a lot of time on your hands. I decided to take the game back, because i think developers have to learn - the hard way - that they have to take advantage of what XBox has: a hard-drive! | 2 | Today | Challenging but Fun Gameplay Enclave is a first person dungeon crawl which began on the XBox and GameCube before coming out for the PC. First, the plot. You're in a medieval village. A giant chasm has split you (the "good guys") from the Outlanders (the "bad guys"). In the console versions you must play the good guy missions before taking on the bad guys. On the PC you can start with either. I really think playing the good guys first made more sense, because you get to meet and know characters that you then play on the bad guy side. There's more "payback" feeling. But some people can't stand being good and want to just be bad. The graphics are nice, but not spellbinding. There are many other games out there that I can think of that are more polished or authentic feeling. Still, you do get the stone and wood feel for the medieval areas. You work from level to level, gaining gold, gaining experience, buying new weapons and armor. There are a few puzzles and a lot of hack and slash. Which leads to the next issue with the console versions. You can't save mid-mission which means if you hit something you're having problems with, you keep restarting the entire thing. So then you try another armor combination, or another weapon and go through it all over again. It can get pretty tedious. The PC version lets you save mid-mission. On the up side, this means that you can easily play the game for weeks and still have challenges waiting for you. You can go back and replay levels, looking for the treasure you missed. You can try for different weapon or armor to see how it might help or hurt. If you race through to find the ending, you're missing the whole point of the game. It's meant to be enjoyed, not to be trashed and then thrown out. | 4 | Today | Awsome Game This game rocks! At first it's a bit tricky, with not alot of supplies but in about two levels you can aford that set of armor you've been longing for. The weapons are awsome. Theres so many! And two different sides to chose on is awsome. It does get kinda annoying on hard levels with no save points, but i think it makes it more challenging. BUY IT! you will not be dissapointed. I'd say you'd get about uhhh..... 80 hours worth on this game, or 98 if you don't get a walkthrough. So peace out. | 5 | Today | Non-Intuitive Controls Drive Ya Nuts If you're looking for something along the lines of Balder's Gate this is not the game to get. The story line is okay, but the controls are not intuitive and hard to figure out. If you are used to using the buttons on the XBox controller then this will drive you nuts. The weapon and shield controls are the triggers which I thought completely ridiculous. And, you can't really customize the controls the way you want. If you want to try it rent it first. I played one night then returned it. Another annoying thing is there isn't enough health potions. Another thing is the turning and movement thing. You can't turn when moving like forward or backward. So, if you're trying to attack an Ogre, and he gets behind you, you have to use the left thumbstick to get behind him and the right thumbstick to turn around while you try and hack him, so then you're hacking at thin air. Overall very disapointing. Decent graphics though. | 2 | Today |
