| Review | Rating | Last Updated | So bad it's comical Until my wife brought this toaster home from Target I didn't think it was possible to come up with such a poor toaster design. My gosh, humankind been designing toasters for generations. It has an attractive retro look and would go nicely in an Air Stream camper, but in the 6 months we've owned it I don't think I've made one decent slice of toast. They are either under, or over done. Part of the problem is that the control for "doneness" moves so easilly it's always getting jostled out of position. But the most unbelievalbe design flaw of all is that the slots for the toast are so deep you cannot remove the toast without digging it out with a fork or pulling up on the handle. Sometimes you have to rapidly jerk the handle up in hopes that toast jumps up high enough that you can grab it before it falls. It's all rather comical. | 1 | Today | Still working but we're looking elsewhere We've owned this toaster for 2 years now. Because it's lasted that long and due to it's appealing looks, we give it the 2 stars. As for using it for toasting, it rates very poorly. The toast darkness control is unreliable. Leave it in one place and get light toast at one time and dark the next. It has a silly mechanism that supposedly allows for better control when toasting bagels or muffins. The control is useless. The worst part of the machine, however, is that it is nearly impossible to retrieve the toast, bagel, whatever, without getting burned. More than once we've been forced to turn the toaster upside down to get our breakfast (toast and millions of crumbs). Buy it for it's looks, look elsewhere for making toast. | 2 | Today | Don't judge a book by its cover... Likewise with this toaster. It looks great [especially from several feet away] and although it's expensive it just isn't all that great. Specifically, this toaster is Made in China. So don't think because it has the DeLonghi name it is actually made in Italy or the EU. It's *designed* in Italy is all. Chinese manufacturing is often a good deal for the manufacturer and a bad deal for the customer. I would say that this is one of those cases.
The toaster is suprisingly light as others have mentioned. The fit of the parts where the sides meet the center part of the assembly is not tight - one of the first things I noticed was a gap of varying width on both sides. It's a small gap don't get me wrong, but with the name and the price I was very disappointed. The manufacturing further showed its sub-standard quality when after a few months it stopped working after I cleaned out the crumb tray. I was careful not to get it wet or in any way abuse the unit, but it simply wouldn't toast any more. I ended up going out to get a less expensive product with a similar appearance - so far so good.
It will be a long time before I buy anything from DeLonghi again... | 2 | Today | Delonghi for the long haul. i bought this for its retro look and asthetic chrome gleam, but was i surprised to find it works wonderfully. i have had for 6 years, with no problems. it still toasts my bread and bagels evenly, and even cooks toaster hashbrowns. this is a top notch toaster, and still looks like new. | 5 | Today | A Toaster that Toasts! Ok, so it's got it's cheesy factors... the paint rubs off and it looks a little shoty BUT it toasts perfectly! I haven't had a toaster in over a year because in the past 10 years I have gone through 8! None of which actually toasted a piece of bread. A friend of mine gave me this and I love it! I've never enjoyed toast so much! | 4 | Today | Great Product! This toaster is a great product and I especially love how the bagel feature allows you to toast only 1 side of the bagel. Also love the retro modern style. | 5 | Today | Not so good I got this toaster cause it was a good brand and on sale. I thought it looked really nice and it does go well with the other appliances in my kitchen, but it doesn't work worth a damn. SInce day one my toast has been unevenly toasted. And even at the highest setting, my bread is more slightly warm and over-dry than actually toasted. I like the bagel setting, but don't use it because I always forget which direction to put the bagel in... Pretty much, I really wish I had not bought this toaster. I am amazed that the company still sells it actually. | 1 | Today | One year later I still love it My roommate and I use this toaster daily and I've never had problems with it. The material is light but very sturdy. I actually dropped it down my stairs when I moved and it still looks and works great. I love all the features which are easy to use if you take about 30 seconds to read the instructions. Delonghi must have replaced the handles because the one on mine is metal. I plan on buying another just like this after mine dies but I suspect that won't happen for quite a while. | 5 | Today | Great look, if that's all you want I gave this toaster a 2 star rating because it does look great, which bumped it from one star. However, from day one all it does is burn anything that goes into it, even at it's lowest setting. Nice bagel setting but it too burns the one side to a crisp. Not worth the money and I'm embarrassed I spent so much on a toaster thinking the DeLonghi name was worth it. It wasn't. Going back to a $20 toaster..... | 2 | Today | Buy it for looks, not for function The other bad reviews about this toaster are all true, it really is just a gimmick. Buy this toaster for looks if you'd like to have it in your kitchen, but also buy another cheap ten dollar toastermaster toaster from kmart or walmart and use that to make your actual toast behind the scenes--believe me, the toast will come out a lot better and I bet the ten dollar toaster will even last longer! | 2 | Today |
