| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Nice product but it has some problems Overall, I like this product. It's performance is very good, and its espresso coffee is wonderful. However, the licking problem reduce 1 star. | 4 | Today | FOUND THE KNACK! I have owned this machine since 3/'04 (!)and thought about getting a new model w/coffee maker. After shopping for a new machine and reading the reviews on this one, I must add my 2 cents. I have figured out how to avoid problems others have had with it and I am very happy with mine. In fact I will not upgrade because the others (w/ coffee maker)are not pump driven unless you spend a fortune. Here is what I do for a great latte: Turn on machine first thing. It takes about 2-3 minutes for mine to warm up and the light to turn on. While waiting for that, I get my milk out and pour it in my mug, and then fill the basket with coffee. I then turn on the frother and run it into the empty frothing pitcher. For some reason, it spits out water first before the steam gets there. Before that, I used to wonder why my drinks were watered down. So I then steam my milk right in my mug. It works great if you put it just below the surface of the milk. Then I shut off the steam and hit the espresso button and make the coffee. I pour the espresso through the milk. Perfect every time! I did buy the Delonghi burr grinder and it works perfect but I love Illy coffee so sometimes use that too. I only wish the espresso machine had a bigger basket and made more at one time. The pump is a little noisey, but at least it has a pump! BTW, mine does not leak and have had no problem with the washer (yet). Delonghi does have a terrible website and poor customer service. | 4 | Today | Tried twice and it broke down in less than 1 month!!! This machine makes a great cappuccino. I was very happy at first making several cups a day... Until it blew up (literally, almost) and stopped making steam.
I tried again (Seeing that half the reviews were good and half were bad I figured I'd try my luck)...
What a surprise... The second one broke in exactly the same way in less than 3 weeks (I had guests over too, so I was very upset).
Bottom line, I returned it and purchased a breville, which does not make as good a coffee, but I hope it will be more reliable... | 1 | Today | Bad Pump While it worked, I liked it. The pump lasted less than 2 weeks. I bought it locally, and got my money back. | 1 | Today | Cappuccino Made Easy- This is the machine for you!!! I've used quite a few espresso machines over the years (stovetop, Krups, combo coffee/espresso) and had quite the adventures steaming milk. I wish I would have purchased this machine sooner- it makes the entire process of cappuccino easier than I thought - especially after reading the speciality coffee sites!!! The machine washes very easily, heats up the water quickly (5 minutes tops), steams milk way better than anything I have used (or watched used at the coffee shops), and is a cinch to use the pods (way easier to clean up!). No leaking found, taste and crema is the same as coffee shops, and I can have a cuppa whenever I wanna!!! | 4 | Today | Great machine I've used at least once a day for the last two years (at least) and have been very pleased with it. Sadly, I think it's getting old, and time for a new one. But I will buy the same thing again. | 5 | Today | Doesn't Leak - Read the Directions! The other customer reviews of this great product are very revealing. The steamer nozzle does NOT leak. It does, however, retain quite a bit of water that will slowly drip out if you don't follow the directions and remove the tip for rinsing after each use (detaches with no effort at all). Read the directions and clean your machine properly and you won't have any trouble.
This machine was a replacement for my $25 cheapie Mr. Coffee steam unit. There is simply no comparison. No more fumbling with dangerous steam chambers and watching my espresso get cold while I'm venting the machine! The DeLonghi has a water storage tank, is plenty pre-heated in just a few seconds (despite the directions reccomending 30 minutes) and espresso will start flowing within 3 seconds of turning the dial. I usually select warmup on the dial and then go grind my espresso beans. After selecting steam the machine is ready within 20 seconds (I use this time to get the milk ready).
The espresso has a great crema. Although not a concern for me, the frothing tube simplifies the milk part - a good feature for an amateur to milk frothing. A great machine for a starter or a pro - just be sure to read and follow the directions! | 5 | Today | MC I have seen alot of negative reviews regarding this appliance, however; I purchased one about a year ago and absolutely love it! The 2 liter tank is the bomb - no more running out of water for steam. There is nothing worse than running out of water in those tiny tanks on other machines. By the time you correct that issue the espresso has gone cold! I crank out some high volume for all my neighbors on the weekends (several lattes) and have never had a single problem with this machine. This machine is built for high volume. I liked it so much I purchased one for my brother. I am also about to get one for a wedding gift for my neighbor. I wouldn't use anything else...especially a Krups! Had two different Krups machines and both fell apart in less than 6 months! | 5 | Today | Nice espresso, you get what you pay for. I got this as a gift about six month ago. I was new in making espresso so it took some time before I got perfect espresso. Now I like to order espresso in restaurants and cofee shops to compare with mine, usually mine is better. I use starbucks espresso coffee, they grind it for me an tastes wonderful. I give 4 stars because capuccinos are not as easy and fast to make as espresso holpfully I make lot more espresso than capuccino. Never have problems with the machine. | 4 | Today | Better Business Bureau complaint against DeLonghi Primary Complaint Classification: Service Issues
Secondary Complaint Classification: Product Quality
Complaint:
Received as gift from Amazon.com, 12/25/04. After 5 weeks of occasional use, the rubber gasket which holds the screen snugly inside the filter head began to split. Within 2 weeks the entire gasket had broken completely apart and rendered this $100 machine unuseable for want of this cheap, tiny part.
I went to DeLonghi's website to locate a replacement part, but the site has never been put fully online since it was first enabled in March of 2004, and the features I needed were unavailable.
I then called the phone number in the product documentation and received a DeLonghi automated menu. After I made my selection from the menu I was told "This number is no longer in service," and was disconnected. I tried every menu option and received the same message and disconnection every time.
Attempts to locate contact information for DeLonghi's corporate headquarters (through investment websites)also failed.
Amazon.com indicated that they would not replace the product as it was beyond their 30-day returns window, and that I would have to take it up with DeLonghi directly. Obviously, I had already attempted this and it had proved impossible. After browsing Amazon.com reviews by buyers of other DeLonghi products, it appears I am not alone in my complaints of poor product quality and non-existent customer service from DeLonghi. Caveat emptor.
Now I have a $100, fancy Italian-designed paperweight taking up counter space and what I need is a cup of coffee. My hope is that you have some means of contacting DeLonghi and finding out why they refuse to stand behind their products. I understand that I may have to accept the $100 loss incurred by my purchase of their terrible product, but I think other consumers should be made aware of the risks they make in buying from DeLonghi America Inc. before they make the same expensive mistake I did.
Desired Settlement: Refund
Desired Settlement Explanation :
Although the part needed is small (and undoubtedly cheap), I'm reluctant to have any further dealings with DeLonghi America Inc. or their products. I would like a full refund so that I may purchase an espresso maker that works, from a company that will make good on the buyer-seller contract. | 1 | Today |
