| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Served its purpose for 4yrs like a champ....now, not so much I bought this card at Best Buy for $450 back in March of 2003. This card has been nothing but phenominal in playing every and ALL PC games out there since...but yesterday i was denied access to "Medal of Honor: Airborne" because the card was not supported. Unfortunately i don't feel like buying a new 256mb card for $150 just to play this newest game. But for anyone who enjoys playing any game pre 2007 will LOVE this video card....i think to this day it's still has some top-of-the-line features to add to gaming. What it doesn't possess is the new filtering features of newer cards which is why some games don't support running on it. For $85, this card is DEFINIETLY worth the purchase for any computer. I have 2 of these cards....one in my 2.4celeron/1gig computer and the other in my 3.4 P4 HyperThread/ 2gig computer and both of the cards worked flawlessly over the years. I've been playing CAll of Duty 2 and the Peter Jackson King Kong games on full/high video setting without a single slowdown....so this card can definitely handle some graphics. Hope this review helps for anyone interested in a GREAT card and to save a heck of alot of money! ;) | 5 | Today | Good Card, Bad Fan I bought one of these, was very happy with the performance of the card itself, however, the fan died and by the time the source of the problem was found the card was damaged beyond repair. So, thinking this was a fluke I again bought the same card, but lo and behold the fan died AGAIN, this time I've hopefully caught it before the damage is permanent and have replaced the fan, but I will never buy a Radeon again. | 2 | Today | In response to Jordan review The card I have for sale is what is shown above, Jordan must have had some issue with a particular seller. My card is in the original box with all the original accessories and is in great shape. | 4 | Today | Freaking Sweet! When I bought my Vaio RZ-40C1B, I was focusing on the video card and the RAM, because I would be doing lots of music mixing/editing, (for my band) video editing, and photo editing. It ran very well through these tasks, because of the 9800 PRO and the 1 GB of SDRAM. When I got into PC gaming, I noticed that this card could handle EVERYTHING. Everything from Halo, DOOM 3, Unreal Tournament, Warcraft 3, everything. It was just amazing. Now, when I buy games, I don't even look at the system requirements. Because my card is the benchmark or the video game industry. | 5 | Today | Radeon All-in-wonder Video Card Works extremely well, I was impressed at how much faster it worked. | 5 | Today | The card advertised is not what is being sold here I purchased this video card expecting to receive a non-OEM, genuinely original ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb adapter. After all, that is what is advertised, and the picture shown is that of an original ATI 9800 Pro box. Nowhere in this item description is the manufacturer JETWAY mentioned. The box you will receive upon buying this card is different from what is pictured above, as is the product, which is manufactured by a company called Jetway; you can find this card on their website at www.jetway.com.tw. I will be honest here and say that despite the card not being what I expected (and more importantly, not being what I paid to have sent to me), its performance has so far been acceptably good so I probably won't go through the hassle of returning it. The only problem I have had has been occasional white/multi-colored flickering of polygons, but it doesn't happen extremely frequently. Unfortunately when it happens in dark areas in games such as Half-Life 2 it can be quite noticable. I am not sure if this is due to the card being a Jetway or not, having never used a truly original ATI 9800 Pro..
The bottom line however is that the product being sold here is not the same as what is described and what you are lead to believe you are buying. Thus in what could have otherwise been a perfectly satisfactory transaction, I am forced to rate the item and the seller poorly, because in my book, lying to the customer is a pretty poor business practice. If you are looking to buy an all-original ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb card, don't buy it here. | 1 | Today | Not really an ATI ORIGINAL It is presented as an original ATI RADEON card, when it is really a JETWAY card with the 9800 chipset.
Please considered it, you are betting 160 dollars on a chineese product.
AMAZON and global computing should make clear what are you buying.
| 1 | Today | Very good AGP videocard This PC videocard is still a very good upgrade for those not willing to invest in a complete system upgrade or don't care about 1200x768 resolution with 6X Anti-Aliasing, etc. Image display & playability with majority of games out on market is very good. Games such as Far Cry, Painkiller, Half Life 2, Diablo II, Doom 3, Halo, Warcraft 3, Sims 2, etc. all play wonderfully with some video setting tweaking, game patches & driver updates.
I have this installed in a PC with the Soyo KT600 Dragon Ultra PE mobo, 512MBx2 Geil PC3200/400MHz VRam, Athlon XP 2600+ Barton 1.92GHz CPU, Seagate 160GB HDD 7200 RPM, Thermaltake 480W PSU, and other needed components. Being my mobo has mfr listed compatibility issues I'm running this card AGP 4X and these are my benchmarks: 3DMark05 2800, 3DMark01SE 14500, AquaMark 30000, PCMark04 5000, & 3DMark03 ?. System is running at stock settings no OCing of any kind and its decent for gaming all within warranty. Even at AGP 4X this beats out my ATi AIW 9600XT AGP 8X in display appeal and frames.
This and other mid to high-end cards however may only slightly improve game performance if you are running an older system with lots of bottleneck, but still improvements should be decent regardless. *Dell owners may have to request/buy stronger powersupply units from Dell to fully support cards power consumption demand. Most low to mid range performance Dell PCs are equipped with only standard min 250W PSU so system lock ups, restarts, blue screen, and other symptoms may occur. There are many variations of this card from many mfr's so try other vendors such as NewEgg.com for lower prices. The only major advantage of buying "Built by ATi" instead of "Powered by ATi" is the 3 yr ATi mfr warranty that not all 3rd party mfr do not offer. Same technology just differ warranty, but for this listed price I'd probably buy Nvidia GeForce 6600GT AGP instead. If you insist on this vcard then pair this with at least 1 GB of RAM and your gaming will be joyful. Also defrag your drives while your at it. | 4 | Today | Best card for under $200 I spent a long time deciding between this card and the Nvidia Geforce FX5900. The last time I got an ATI card it was a nightmare. My ATI All-in-wonder card was plagued with constant lockups and slow downs.
With that being said, I was very wary of putting another ATI card in my system. I had always been happy with Nvidia, so the choice should have been obvious, but I did extensive research and my results prompted me to give ATI another chance. I purchased the 9800 Pro from ebay for a steal at $150 for my PC build. I must say it is worth every penny.
All of my games run smoothly on my Athlon 3000+ with 1GB ram. The only problem I had with this card is that I could not get it to run Doom 3 right out of the box. The game would always crash to the desktop when I tried to start a new game. No other games gave me any problem except doom 3. I searched the internet and found that many others were having problems with this card and Doom 3. I found and downloaded some third party drivers that fixed the problem. Doom 3 runs very good on my system now and doesnt crawl along as I expected it to. I haven't played Doom 3 too much after getting it working, because I haven't really gotten into the game as of yet. However I have been playing other games like Halo and quake 3 and I am amazed at the crispness, and brillant colors. These games run very smooth and quick with no slowdowns or choppiness whatsoever.
ATI may have won me back as a customer, but only time will tell.
As a note, I have also seen a couple of reviews saying that when they bought this card from Amazon, that they got a third party knock off and not the actual card from ATI. Functionally, the card should be the same, but you never know and I can surely understand the frustration when the card arrived and you discover it is from a manufacturer like Jetway. Just for the record I did not get my card from amazon but from Ebay. So in case you were wondering if I got a geniune ATI card directly from Amazon, the answer is no. | 4 | Today | PCI Express is an unknown technology I don't even have this card, just felt the PCI Express loving guy is pretty stupid. There are no cards out so how in the heII do you know that it's so much better than AGP. AGP 1x to 8x there barely is a performance increase and with computers still coming out with AGP these cards will be supported for a few years to come. | 5 | Today |
