I've had good luck with other WD drives and expect the same quality here. 5 Today 3 Drives all good I ordered these to replace 2 HDs that were too small, and one drive that was showing signs of failure. So far all three of these drives are working fine. I have no reason to complain. 5 Today Bad Hard Drives + Worse Warranty + Worst Customer service Make that -5 ***** Need I say anymore.........actually I do.... Please dont waste money (more importantly, possibly your life's worth of digital files) on this piece of joke. The poorest quality drives, the most unprofessional customer no service. Down right, unethical company. The drive failed on Day 1 from the store and was returned to WD after obtaining a RMA number. You can get the RMA number only with a proper WD serial number. After numerous emails, I finally got a response saying that, the drive i sent them was not a WD drive??(this bait and switch is quit common for warranties) Apparently WD is using this tactic and others to deny any customer any kind of warranty claims. I have copies of all the emails and online RMA submissions. I also took a copy of the face of drive (to guard against such a switch-aroo) before sending in. If you have any such problems, please do take a copy or high resolution digital picture of the drive/box before sending it in. I see a class action suite coming.... 1 Today Very easy install. I have a medium amount of experience doing hardware and software upgrades to a PC. This was the easiest "slave" hard drive I've installed yet. After the physical install there was a couple of minutes of configuration and that was it. The documentation was more than adequate. 5 Today Excellent Drive!!! This drive has served me well for years! As always, Western Digital is the way to go for hard disks. 5 Today Big, ULTRA-FAST, and EASIEST TO SET UP EVER! This was the easiest hard drive I had to set up. It is so fast, I boot into windows XP Pro in less than 7 seconds. Its also big, and it successfully allowed me to copy everything from my old hard drive to the new one. And after I did that, I booted up normally with the new hard drive, with NO PROBLEM AT ALL! Excellent! 5 Today Needed formatting. It arrived promptly. I use it as a second harddrive. Windows would not recognise it until I used Partition Magic to delete the partition and creat new partitions with Windows OS. It now works fine. 4 Today Great Drive 2nd Western Hard Drive I have purchased. This is being used as a slave, and no problems. 5 Today DO NOT USE AS BOOT DRIVE I recently purchased this item, and I was extremely disappointed. It was a horrible experience trying to install this item. The instructions for the drive did not match the type of drive, and on the western digital website, it didn't even list this drive to get instructions for. So, I followed the instructions that came with it to a T, to install the drive as a boot drive, copying all my information from my current drive, which was about to fail. It seemed to copy the files just fine and work ok as a slave drive, but then my original hard drive failed, and I moved this supposidly boot drive to be the single drive on my machine it would not work. Upon calling customer service to find out what was wrong, I was asked, did you make the boot drive through windows or dos? I told her I just popped in the disk they gave me and ran it, and followed the instructions, click on "I want to make a boot drive" and not on "I want to make a drive for additional service." She said that it sounds like I did it through windows mode, and it won't make a boot drive in windows mode, only if I was in dos mode. I asked her why this was not explained in the instructions, and now I had no original boot drive to try to do it again. She told me to run windows recovery. I asked if she could help me do that, because I couldn't figure it out, and she said no, windows isn't our product so we won't help you with that. I said, but if this is what I need to install this drive, it says you are supposed to offer me free installation help for 30 days, why won't you help me. Then I was spoken to as if I was a problem customer - you know, "MAAM, I TOLD YOU I CAN'T HELP YOU" in a nasty tone. I ended up going out, buying another hard drive to use as my primary and then installing windows from scratch, and having to reinstall all the drivers and programs I had on this new drive and I kept the western digital drive for a backup. All in all, I thought this was a waste of money, a waste of hours upon hours of time, and a terrible experience.
