Most Balanced Fighter Ever
There are many fighting games out there in our modern video game world, but few stand out so much that it is a veritable sin to not play this game if you are a fighting game fan. This is that fighter. Capcom vs. SNK 2 is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the most balanced fighting game ever created. It has 50+ fighter, multiple ways to play multiplayer (Ratio, 3-way-, and single), 6 different ways (called Grooves) to fight with them. The Groove system is one of the best parts, allowing you to play Ryu like a King of Fighter's character, or Rock Howard Like he is from Street Fighter III. The choice is yours. And no character is overpowered with the way the priorities are done. Even the God character's can be trounced with proper defensive playing. Ending point is, if you like fighting games and consider yourself one of the best, you truly get to test your mettle with this game. And note this, the PS2 version is a RARE find, so if can get it for the PS2 for cheap, jump on the opportunity.

Second best Vs title of all time
Having spent my free time as a youth in the arcades, I grew attached to 2D brawlers. This videogame combines characters from an assorted number of them, from the cult classics like Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, and Samurai Showdown. Sadly, the roster could have been more epical, for lack of a better word. There are unpopular characters used only to counter the look-alikes from the rival company, most notably Maki Genryusai, a Final Fight character, and Mai Shiranui, the infamously voluptuous SNK female mascot. Unlike the better-casted Marvel vs. Capcom 2, however, this Vs game has austere input commands, so making devastating super combos is actually challenging (but not as much as in the Alpha series). This is a superb multiplayer game for those children of the Eighties. Don't count on single player replay value, though; there is close to none.

My favorite fighting game of all time!
A huge selection of characters for endless gaming... This isn't a game you play over a weekend and never touch again. If you like fighting games, this is a must have. If you're interested in buying this I highly recommend having a arcade already with this game or a friend/people to play with or it can get pretty dull. I also recommend playing with an acade stick opposed to a controller.

One of the Greatest Fighters of All Time
I've played fighting games all my life. I'm a Huge fighting game enthusiast. I've mastered all sorts of fighting games from mortal kombat, street fighter series, king of fighters, darkstalkers, killer instincts (rememebr that),tekken, DOA, soul calibur, virtua fighter, mvc2, guilty gearx2, etc................ So now that you know that, you can take my word when I say that THIS GAME IS AWESOME AND YOU GET EVERY BUCK YOU PAY FOR. This game is literally 2d fighting mastered. You get 3on3, ratio, or single matchups. Unlike Marvel vs capcom 2 where you get 56 characters and maybe use a dime out of the dozen, in cvs2 every character can be lethal if you know how to use them. There are also 6 different groove styles and they really do change the way you play your character. Plenty of unlockables- characters and boss mode. Customize your groove and character color. The game has crazy replay value due to it's very wide arrange of variations and modes!! Don't listen to the people complaining about the sprite animation or the backgrounds in this game. The gameplay in this game far outweighs the lack of graphical prowess this game has compared to other games out in the market. Not only that, I've found the MUSIC in this game to be excellent...from the intro to the character selection to the fighting...it really pumps you up and has a cool feel to it. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet. RECOMMENDATIONS: Look, stop wasting time and BUY THIS GAME especially if you are a fighting game enthusiast!! My current top 3 fighting games on the PS2 are Capcom vs SNK 2, Marvel VS Capcom 2, and Guilty Gear X2. I've had CVS2 and MVC2 for over 5 years and GGx2 for over a year and still play them every so often and at times religiously. I've picked up 3D fighters like Tekken or DOA or Soul Calibur but they seem to bore me quickly and have little replay value. 2D fighters are the best way to go for fighters. Just gotta do it right and Capcom vs SNK 2 is one really great example of how it's done right!

Capcom vs SNK 2
This game is really addictive once you start playing it. You get to play with like 40+ characters. With the "Color Edit" option, I could make Balrog look like The Hulk. It has 6 different grooves, plus you can customize it once you unlock this oprion. While this game's gameplay is excellent, the only problems is the fact that some chracters look dated (like Morrigan and Sagat) and that all the chracters seem a bit pixely not quite as smooth as the Dreamcast version. But the graphics aren't really what matter in this type of game, specially with cool light effects and such. Many of Capcom's characters have been balanced in oder to compete with the SNK ones (like removing some moves in certain characters and maybe weakening them) Overall, this game is certanly worth getting!

Best Fighter Yet
Capcom VS Snk 2 is a classic game that every fighting fan should own. Like every game, there are pros and cons. First of all, anyone who is or was a fan of Street Fighter ,King of Fighters or Fatal Fury should play this game. There are a number of favourites including Ryu,Bison,Akuma,Morrigan,Iori,Kyo,Terry and Geese, as well as special characters Evil Ryu and Orochi Iori and hidden bosses S.Akuma and U.Rugal. There's also some great lesser known characters that really add to the depth of the roster like Joe, Rock and Yamazaki. The graphics are perfect, much better than Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and SNK vs Capcom Chaos. As well, the stages and sound are great.Unlike MVC2, the music is worth leaving on as it adds to the overall experiance. It's a much different game compared to Marvel Vs Capcom 2 in that there are very few air combos , you can't change characters in the middle of a battle, and there's no moves invloving more than one character from a team. However, two moves not included in MVC2 are the dodge and roll abillites that help create an interesting and challenging gameplay. Also, the groove system adds another dimension to the gameplay, where your skill level and the characters you choose are factors to consider when picking a groove, adding a bit more strategy to your fighting. The "A" groove, recommended for higher skilled players, really leaves the door open for some dangerous and devastating combos with any character. The characters from Capcom are also much more of a Street Fighter style game, which I like. Die hard fans of Marvel VS Capcom 2, however, might not like this game as much. Personally, I like this game better. There are a few unlockables: S.Akuma , U. Rugal and a create your own groove system which is very useful. You can also edit the colours of every character, allowing yourself, if you want, to give characters a black outfit or colour scheme, among other possibillities. You can also alter the shading of characters faces for some dramtic and evil looking effects. Theres also the classic rain stage on top of Osaka Castle. On top of that, there are quite a few special "beginings" for battles between characters with grudges, like Ryu vs Sagat, Kyo vs Iori and and Bison Vs Iori. There are a few cons i have about this game. One is that there arent' more unlockable characters. Not that there aren't a lot of characters to begin with (over 48). The other thing about the game i don't like is that when you play against either the computer or against another player using E.Ryu, O. Iori , S. Akuma or U. Rugal, your character takes considerably more damage when hit, leaving you easy prey against a skilled opponent until you've masterd the character. Also, the endings for each character are typed with no special cinematics. But the reward in this game comes from the gameplay, not the endings. Overall , this game has a ton of playability in just the sheer amount of characters to learn and become good with. It's even more fun when you play your friends, putting your skill on display and facing real life opponents. And it's still a great game to pass the time with when there's nothing else to do. This game is a must have for any Street Fighter or King Of Fighters fan. Anyone with the slightest interest in fighting games has to play this one. 9.5 / 10.

If you could only get one 2d fighting game, this would be it.
[I have the Gamecube version so there might be differences between my description and the PS2 or Xbox game.] The reason I say what I do in the headline is because this game takes the best of the two companies' libraries, polishes them till they're flawless, and lets you run with it. Most notably, it has more SF Alpha and Rival Schools characters than any other crossover fighting game. Only a few flagship characters are missing (such as SF3's Alex, Darkstalkers' Felicia, KOF's Andy, Shodown's Charlotte). They let you give any of the 6 "grooves" to any character, so you can have Zangief using Shodown's rage system and Terry busting out custom combos a la SF Alpha, and this DOES significantly change how you play each character. Some characters are tweaked for balance (Ken has a couple moves he never had in any SF game... but if you ask me he doesn't need them), but not majorly. The fighting isn't as fast as Marvel v. Capcom 2 nor the Capcom roster so replete, but it's not supposed to be. MvC2 is a different kind of fighter; this is technical, and excellently so. There's no glitchy mechanics that gyp you out of a well-executed combo, or glaring character imbalances (even Dan Hibiki is competent). Contrary to another reviewer's claim, there are a few unlockables: more powerful versions of Ryu, Akuma, Iori, and Rugal; a toolkit that lets you create your own custom groove, and a boss-fight play mode. The Xbox version of this game has online play, but reviewers call it "an online jank-fest" meaning it's too laggy to be much fun. Other than that, there shouldn't be any major difference between each console version. Get the one you're most comfortable with the controller for.

One of the Best Games for PS2
Capcom vs SNK 2 is one of my most played games because I always enjoy Capcom vs games and having classic Capcom characters fight some of the classic SNK characters of course will be an enjoyable experience if your a fan for either series and in Capcom vs SNK 2 there is even more characters which is great. Now the problems with this game. There is not much variety in the selection of characters chosen for this game because to me it should of been named Street Fighter vs SNK, the reason why is because the only characters that were not from the Street Fighter Series is Morrigan from Darkstalkers, Kyosuke from Rival Schools, and Maki from Final Fight. I thought Capcom could at least put some more Darkstalker characters in the game like Pyron, Tailban, or Demitri they could've also put some Red Earth characters and some Third Strike characters in but that would probably make them spend more because they would have to redraw the characters which means new pixels which brings me to the other problem with the game. The reusing of pixels, come on Capcom could of at least spent a little more money on this game by totally redrawing every character for this whole game with Hi-Res Pixels like Guilty Gear, it would be really cool. Another problem with this game is the constant upgrades and downgrades of some characters moves just to make it balanced a little bit more, I HATE THAT! I want the way the characters are in there original games no matter how overpowering there moves may seem or how weak a character may seem, thats the fun of fighting games perfecting the usage of a character no matter how hard they are to play with. Also one other thing I didnt like about Capcom vs SNK 2 and also the first Capcom vs SNK is the backgrounds, I always find it unusual when ther is 3-D backgrounds in a 2-D fighting game, I would of preffered it if they totally made up some new backgrounds or bring back some of the old stages from the Capcom and SNK games but newly drawn. The last thing I didnt like about this game is that there is no specific ending for each character, that would of been really awesome. But other then those reasons overall the game is still fun! I could play it for many hours before I pass out from exhaustion or dehydration and The survival mode is really hard to which is great. You can alos increase the game speed and use the many grooves in the game which is a specific power guage with specific attributes, my suggestion is to master A groove and I mean it there is no point for the other grooves. There is also specific modes where you dont have to use the ratio rule which is good. But anyways this is a FUN GAME!

Only for the hardcore 2D fighting fans.
Great game if you like this type of fighting style meaning capcom/SNK. I love this game it brings me back to the arcade hey day of SF2. I love that this game has characters from SF series to rival schools and that 3D cop fighting game that capcom released before SFFX. The ones from SnK are cool like the girl from last blade, great game if you like 2D fighters but too expensive on this site. Last blade 2 a must have if you dig old school fighting games.

A great classic-styled fighter.
Many of the other reviews here fault this game for not being as quick and insane as the epileptic-seizure inducing Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Though MvC2 is a great game, it can not be compared with Capcom vs. SNK 2. This isn't a matter of differing quality (as I enjoy both games equally), but a matter of them being two very different types of games. Of the two, CvS2 is much more technical and methodical, and much less flashy. It harkens back to older Street Fighter and King of Fighters games rather than following MvC2 in its faster, more button-mash oriented footsteps. At the very least, this game is MUCH easier to find than the insanely rare Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and it should provide hours of good fighting entertainment.
