| Review | Rating | Last Updated | WORST PRODUCT I HAVE REVIEWED Fortunately this item was quaranteed through AMAZON and I was able to get a full refund. The refund was not fast but was given eventually. Completely dissatisfied with product. Notably I have been the primary computer technical support for a local healthcare facility for the past 5 years. I would not recommend this product to anyone. | 1 | Today | Device Works Fine, Buy with the Rebate I hooked this switch up to a Dell Dimension 2400 P4 and an old Gateway P3. I'm dual booting on both boxes between XP Pro & Server 2003 R2. I'm also using a usb mouse with the usb/ps2 adapter plugged into the switch. I've been using it for several months and it's been working fine. About once every 2 or 3 weeks, the Dell will boot up with the screen zoomed about twice the normal size, but a simple restart resolves it. I've had no problems at all with the Gateway. There's a 1-2 second lag between switching from one PC to the other, but that seems standard. I would have preferred it to be wall mountable, but it sits on top of the PC and the cables don't take up too much space. This switch works fine and I recommend it to anyone who needs a KVM switch. | 4 | Today | Already looking for another one I bought this piece about a year ago and I am now searching for a new one. If computer A is on and i switch to B, all is fine, switching back to A is where the trouble lies. B is always a good connection however. I have swapped PC's to make sure it's not a pc problem. The trouble stays with the connection, not the PC. | 1 | Today | Limited functionality, skimpy instructions: I hoped to use the DKVM as just a monitor switch because only one PC has ps/2 keyboard and mouse (our newer PC uses USB inputs). My assumption was that if I kept the (USB input KB & M) devices connected directly to the new PC, Windows would detect that all devices were connected, and all would be happy. The instructions do not mention anything about such a connection scheme --they only assume you have just one KB and Mouse (ps/2 type) and run them into the DKVM to switch between both PCs. There are not even any FAQs to address other possible cases.
First try, I left all KBs and mice hooked directly to the PCs, and ran just the monitor cables thru the DKVM. The monitor screen showed nothing but black with either or both PCs booted.
Email tech support at D-link was reasonably responsive (but tried to channel me to phone support instead, after I'd typed all the particulars in the email interface). First reply said it should work even with just one PC, preferably using the "PC1" side. So next I tried connecting the Ps/2 inputs to the DKVM and thru it to the old PC as "PC1." (The USB devices remained direct to the new PC2.) That put the screen display for PC1 on the monitor, cleanly. But when I tried switching to PC2, monitor would show the PC2 screen for just a split second [very fast blink], then it would revert back to the PC1 image.
Tech support said the DKVM gets its power from the mouse port; that means that even if it would have switched to PC2 display [no go], I would still need to have the old PC1 running also just to power the DKVM. That's not what I had in mind at all; so the DKVM is no real use in my situation.
Conclusion: skip the DKVM unless you have ps/2 connections on both PCs. | 2 | Today | This nifty device is sure handy!!! I was very happy with the quick delivery of this unit. I was tired of unplugging and replugging the keyboard and mouse and monitor between two computers. Ain't electronics just amazing!!! | 5 | Today | D-Link KVM I've had one of these for over a year. I'm using a 5 year old Gateway with 1 gig processor and a 3 year old Intel server with two 2.4 gig processors. Both are running Win XP Pro.
For the most part this switch works perfectly. Once in a great while the cursor has locked up, but it only seems to occur if switch between machines while one of them is booting up.
I also have a D-Link wired router so that both machines can share my broadband internet connection. It has worked flawlessly from day one.
If the KVM or router broke, I'd buy another from D-LInk in a heartbeat. | 5 | Today | Doesn't handle all resolutions I don't know why exactly, but when using this switch with my wide-screen monitor, the 1680 x 1050 resolution was not available. Also I noticed that the switch doesn't work if only one of my computers is on (I suspect this is because it draws power from only one side). Other than that, it works fine. | 3 | Today | really needed this item i needed a way to unclutter my desk and this item makes it so simplenow i only need one monitor one keyboard and one mouse to run two machines and i will be trying to find a way to get a biger kvm switch so i can cut the total number of keyboards monitors and mice i have to own. | 5 | Today | Problems with Dell computers It seems the mouse side does not work with some if not all Dell computers. In my case it failed on both Dell's I have, one is an Dimension 4300, another is a brand new server. | 2 | Today | For Average Use I used the following product at home between my Windows XP Pro box and my linux server box and it worked almost perfect. My monitor runs at 2048 x 1024 and as a graphic designer noticed no loss of quality what so ever.
The only negative things about it was the fact that the VGA ports were in a odd position and every once in a while I have to refresh my mouse from the KVM switch when it gets lost between switching.
All in all, great for everyday home use. | 4 | Today |
