| Product Reviews from Amazon.com (Rating System 1 to 5) |
| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Buyer beware I owned this switch for a little over a year. It slowly died taking my LAN with it (slowly). It took me a long time to figure it out since my LAN is fairly complex and contains several switches. However, I had 3ea of the Linksys SR20xx 8-port models die on me much faster. Fortunately, those were much easier to find since they just died completely when they went. So, I am not going to purchase any more of the Linksys SR20xx products. I hope that others are more fortunate, but I have had too many of them fail and am now trying D-Link switches. I used to really like Linksys and their hardware used to work forever (or so it seemed). | 1 | Today | SR2016 - Excellent 16-port switch, great value I bought the Linksys SR2016 16-port Gigabit switch for a new house build where I did my own DIY network wiring, ran Cat6+ data cable throughout the house, 14 Cat6 RJ45 jacks installed in total on the first and second floors, which were all home run to this switch. Every port on the switch works beautifully (I know this because I'm using every last one of them), and I always leave the switch ON 24/7. I have had it in place for almost 2 months now and it has never needed to be power cycled. I get full Gigabit speeds to all PC's and game consoles connected to this switch. Definitely speeds up file transfers, and in some cases, the transfer rate of the network exceeds the transfer rate supported by the internal hard disk in the PC, so the network is certainly no longer the bottleneck regarding file transfer. The SR2016 does have a fan, but it's relatively quiet, and unless you're intentionally listening for the fan noise, I don't think it would be of any bother to anyone. It does keep the switch cool/vented, so it serves its purpose and it is a necessary component in a switch with this many ports.
If you can make use of the 16 Gigabit ports for your home or small business and want all the benefits of having a Gigabit wired network, this switch is a great buy. Linksys switches and routers are some of their best and most reliable products, and I always recommend them to others for their reliability and user-friendly features. The SR2016 is a hands-off device, give it power, then plug in your Gigabit-enabled PCs or gaming consoles, sit back, and enjoy the 1000mbps transfer rates. | 5 | Today | Works great so far---I love it! I read somewhere that these were loud switches. I found it to be quiet and fast. Mine came with ears for a 19" rack mount. I installed a 1x12 shelf and attached two ears to make a "poor man's" rack mount to give it better ventilation. It's in the basement so it won't get very hot anyway.
The Gigabit speeds have been fabulous for moving files between computers on my network. Now if I only have this kind of speed in my pipe to the Internet.
I've had other Linksys products that have failed. I've returned them and been shipped still better newer products. This is why I stuck with Linksys this time.
Looking at Netgear, I found they would not stand behind their products if used 24/7. Huh? Why would anyone shut one of these things down? Trust me--Linksys--most of their products are quite good and reasonable priced | 5 | Today | cisco quality at linksys price nothing negative to say about this product
low price
perfect quality
amazing switch
replaced netgear 16 port gigabit dead after two weeks
fan produces faint noise, barely audible from 20 ft | 5 | Today | It has its limitations This switch is working fine for me tying a web, a file, and a database server in with some user workstations. I tried using it for an 8-node analysis cluster in a distributed memory parallel analysis configuration. There it failed miserably, causing an array of Input/Output errors. I am using an infiniband switch for that now ;-)
Cheers! | 3 | Today |
