| Review | Rating | Last Updated | AWESOME printer! This printer IS wonderful. I love it.
We bought this about 2 years ago, refurbished from [..]. For the price, we didn't expect it to really last very long, but surprise - it's still working great! We have not had to replace inks yet. I use this to print out photos for scrapbooking and albums, and have used it for a few photo shoots. The picture quality is beautiful.
For people who do not like how their pictures turn out - try editing them first in a program such as Photoshop or GIMP. Do not resize the pictures if you are planning on printing them.
The only problem I have had is that it doesn't work when hooked up to a computer anymore. However, that was from a power outage (twice in an hour), not from anything wrong with the printer itself. I just print from a memory card now after editing photos.
The ink does take a few minutes to dry. Try low-gloss or semi-gloss photo paper instead of high gloss. The ink is very sticky if you try to touch the photos right away, even on the corner, so allow it to dry completely.
I have not had any problems with this trusty printer and would happily buy another. | 5 | Today | Perfect Printer! This printer has TOP quality printing. I'm an artist and very very picky about what I use and this is my tool for getting the most of photography straight from my digital camera and corel painter art. I've had this printer for years now and it doesn't let me down at all. AA++ product! | 5 | Today | Constant cartridge failure makes this a terrible purchase. My old HP Deskjet worked flawlessly for years, but when it wore out I had to decide on a new printer I waited for this one to arrive in the stores. What a waste of time and money! The printer cartridges continually fail and the quality of photographs and color printing is unpredictable at best. I have spent a small fortune on cartridges, all HP brand, no cheap or refilled cartridges, but I feel like a gambler in desparate need of rehab. I will move to another brand once I figure out what direction to go in, this has ended my trust in HP products for the forseeable future. | 1 | Today | Frustrating Cartridge Problems This printer was very nice for the first month we owned it - nice pictures with the photo printing cartridge. Then, we had the first cartridge "failure" and it has been downhill since. Nearly brand new cartridges fail, producing horrible prints and wasting large amounts of money. All of our attempts to get help from HP did not solve the problem and now we don't even bother trying to fix the failed print cartridges. They still work, just make awful looking print outs with lines through them. I don't feel like throwing away another 30 bucks just to have the nearly full cartridge fail in a couple of weeks! Remember when HP was a sign of a quality printer? I'm starting to forget too! | 1 | Today | Absolutely flawless!! An Excellent companion to your Digital Camera!! We have owned HP 7760 printer for over a year, and it has been absolutely flawless!! Very easy to use, with surreal print quality...it works even without your PC!! Great companion to your Digital Camera!! Highly recommended!!
| 5 | Today | Excellent Printer, Superb Price This printer was given as a gift two years ago, but would not work with my Windows 95 PC; however, this year I upgraded to a new Apple iMac G5 Desktop with 17" M9843LL/A (1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, 512 MB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) so I pulled the HP Photosmart 7760 out of the box and gave it a try. Installation was straightforward, though I did have to "modify" the USB cable -- which, inexplicably, you must purchase separately -- to make it fit into the printer side of the connection. Otherwise the printer was up and running within minutes.
For standard B&W printing this printer is superb, there have been no hangups, stalls or other problems during the seven months I've been using it. The text is crisp and clear, and it prints quickly too.
The first time I tried to print photos I was horrified: arguably the worst photos ever. They were grainy, the colors were thin and blurred, and there were alternating stripes of lighter and darker shading running vertically across the page.
Then I . . . ah . . . read the directions. Ahem.
First I switched to the HP Model C6658AN No. 58 Photo Inkjet Cartridge, followed by a switch to HP Photo paper, and last I used the HP Image Zone software to do the printing.
Result? With no editing, the photos came out beautiful. I mean gorgeous. The colors are rich, deep and crystal clear. A jpeg of the Orion Nebula shows the central stars as hard pinpoints, surrounded by subtle variations of pink, blue, and orange. Orange! A picture of my dog -- taken with five year old Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 315 2MP Digital Camera -- shows more detail, more acurate color, and more color variation than I ever thought such a camera (or dog) was capable of.
This is a very good printer. For the price, it is a wonderful printer. Well worth the price. | 5 | Today | MY PHOTOS LOOK TERRIBLE!!! We have had our hp Photosmart 7760 for just 7 months and already my photos look TERRIBLE!!! The blues are turning green, the flesh tones are fading to white and the entire photo takes on a sickening yellow tone.
I AM BITTERLY DISPPOINTED!!! The pictures are SO BAD that it is NOT WORTH spending the money for the ink and the photo paper.
HP's solution was to use PhotoShop to add a Sepia Tone to the pictures -- YEAH, RIGHT -- then I'll have YELLOWISH-BROWN PICTURES!!! | 1 | Today | Not Store Quality Pics We bought this printer after a Salesperson gave it a high recommendation. We were told that the pictures would look like store bought photos. After hooking it up and loading the software we started printing. We were extremely dissapointed! Our pictures were VERY grainy. We tried switching the print option to best instead of normal, which helped but our pictures were still not perfect. The colors looked washed out, even though we were using the HP paper. Also, when we printed borderless pictures it wouldn't print to the end of the paper. We still had a finger width border on the left side(or sometimes it was on the right hand side?!). Maybe this can be fixed, but the software is difficult to understand and we were unable to figure it out. The best pictures were the ones we printed with the border, but it makes the picture small with a LARGE white border. Not exactly store quality! We are returning this printer to buy a more expensive (and hopefully better)one! | 1 | Today | Best Value Prints excellent pictures for the value. I use it exclusively for pictures, not text, so I don't switch ink, although it is easy to do. In my camparison this is less costly then 4x6 only printers, and I print other photo sizes frequently. Check consumer magazine ratings and you will find this printer rates high on the list. You'll find the best price is here also. Be careful; default print quality is set to 'best' every session which uses ink fast... | 5 | Today | Great pictures, when it will accept the cartridges The picture print quality is fantastic on this printer. HOWEVER, I am on the fifth time that I use the photo ink cartridge a few times and then the printer says it has failed. At roughly $30 a piece, this gets VERY costly! The photo store only charges 29 cents a print. I am learning that this is a much better deal! Very disappointing... | 2 | Today |
