This little baby lets me connect my Canon digital Firewire 400 camcorder to it through the adapter. Works like a charm. My Firewire 250 GB external HD doesn't like it for some odd reason, but I bought it for the camera and other standalone Firewire 400 devices, for which it works well. I also like the fact that it is a small, hard, single piece of plastic. No wires or parts to get easily bent or something. Once I got that done, I started getting multiple "you have unplugged this device without warning" errors. Found out that the end of the sonnet cable has a flare to it that prevents two cords from being plugged into together. 2 Today chaining devices together ... OK, Apple is ahead of everyone again with firewire 800. If you need a 500 GB external disk to receive footage from a digital film pack, you may find yourself needing to chain a firewire 400 production device into a system that was intended for firewire 800.
