This card is an excellent combination of both Firewire and USB2.0 ports, making it a very good single PCI slot way of adding both capabilities to an existing PC. I have two of these cards in two different PCs and they have both worked flawlessly, the first one for over a year now and the second one since I purchased it several weeks ago. This card has wide OS support. I have used it under Windows 98 SE, Windows ME and Windows XP, and also under several variants of Linux, including VectorLinux, Arch Linux and recently Yoper Linux 3.0. The price is very reasonable for what you get. So, with a reasonable price, a compact single slot "footprint" and wide OS support, this card is a great way to augment an existing PC. I've had this card installed since Nov. 2006 and just now found out that the 2 Firewire ports only work intermittently. I thought my new camcorder was messed up when I tried to use the Firewire port on the Iogear card. But when I plugged into another non-Iogear available Firewire slot, the camcorder worked. Now I have to go through the hassle of trying to get warranty work for the Iogear card. The USB ports on the card have worked okay.
Update: Over 3 weeks and I'm still awaiting my warranty work repair/replacement from Iogear.

I installed it in my Quicksilver in 3 minutes and 2 minutes later my USB 2.0 300GB external disk drive was screaming through a complete backup.

No fuss, no muss. Just plug it in the PCI slot and reboot. Windows XP installed it automatically and I was up and running.

Though the description states this card will work with G3 and above it wont even fit in the PCI slot for a G5 1.8 Single or a1.8 Dual I belive its because those slots are PCI-X. I am going to try the Sonnet alegro which says it will work with a G5 also. We'll see.

My computer was one of the first to have XP and USB 2.0 wasn't available in 2001 when I bought it, but I don't need a new computer. When I bought a new IPOD however, it was inevitable that I was going to want the much faster speed that USB 2.0 brings. So I asked a friend how to go about it. It's so easy! I ordered and received the card, opened the computer, being careful to unplug it and avoid getting static electricity, plugged in my new card in the PCI slot (My friend had showed me what one looked like.), reconnected everything. XP recognized the new hardware and that was it. It could not have been any simpler. My IPOD works really fast now and I have the firewire option too, just in case I buy something else that needs that. I would definitely recommend this card. It was easy and it works. | 5 | Today |
