| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Likely to break, and quickly... As other have mentioned, the think plastic forming the "latch" simply doesn't hold up to the kinds of forces exerted on it. Expect it to break. Aside from that, it's a great case...solid, sleek (if a little bulky), and convenient. But unfortunately, if it doesn't stay closed it kind of defeats the purpose.
I'd avoid it. I returned mine, and have no desire for another. | 2 | Today | Great case - lousy catch I've had 2 of these and love how durable these are. I tend to drop it and it gets bounced around in my purse. It's all scratched up but my Palm is perfectly protected. If the manufacturer would make a better catch I would rate it 5 stars. The catch is basically a little plastic "nub" that fits into the right side of the front cover. It broke on my first one because someone didn't know how to open it and forced it apart. It broke after a few months on my second one with normal use. Because it is great protection, I just put a wide rubber band around it. That makes to a pain to open, but it works for now. | 2 | Today | Serves its basic purpose The Palm hard case for my Tungsten E2 serves its basic purpose to protect my PDA, especially during business travel. Pros: Easy to slide PDA in an out of the case, easy access to use the screen while the PDA secured. Cons: Can't easily access on/off button on the top of the PDA while in the case lying flat, difficult to sync to my computer while the PDA is in the case (it's do-able, but very awkward), and I sure wish the case closed securely with more of a snap...kind of a mushy clasp functioning when you close it. However, the case provides much better protection that just the suede cover flap that originally came with the PDA. | 3 | Today | very good I am very pleased with this purchase. It was delivered on time and it is in very good condition. I would recommend for other customers. | 4 | Today | Fab-u-lous This is an excellent case for the Tungsten E2. It provides easy access for charging, the stylus, and for the insertion of memory cards. It holds a few memory cards which is great. It is easy to open. And-- it works well-- I have already dropped my palm a few (or more) times and everything has remained intact. It's the best case, it's made my palm for palm, just buy it. | 5 | Today | Savior case, with a silly port Call it a "life extender" for the Palm. I've had at least 7 different Palm units over the years, starting with a Palm III. Almost all have lasted less than a year. My second to last unit, a Tungsten E, lasted a little over a year. I have always put the Palm in my pocket, with its "leatherette" cover on it, and the shell always gets pretty scratched up. The logos and even the serial number usually rub off. When I bought my Tungsten E2, after my TE died, I noticed the hard case, and bought it too. Boy, has that investment ever paid off. Not only is the E2 going strong 1.5 years later, but the logos on the front are pristine. I have dropped the unit in its case on pavement more times than I care to remember, but the E2 is going strong.
After the extended warranty expired on my last TE, I took it apart to try to repair it (dang power switch). Once inside, I noticed an alarming amount of lint and dust that had leaked into the unit, presumably from my pocket. Yet another vote for the hard shell, which would doubtless have extended its life as well.
My one complaint about the case is the awful placement of the rubberized "port" access in the top of the unit. Apparently a slot for the Mini SD card, this port makes no sense whatsoever. Not only is it impossible to insert or retrieve a card with the case closed (you need to press down firmly on the card itself to eject it, and your fingers can't get near it from outside the case), but the port would be SO much better served as a headphone jack port. Better yet, a headphone jack port AND a wider port at the bottom of the case to accommodate the E/E2's charging and USB ports would make the case superb. That, and hinges for the port door that feature a simple spring mechanism to close the port when not in use. Now you'd be talking. | 4 | Today | Case latch breaks easily, so case isn't worth half it's price Many people here are commenting that the latch on this case is its Achilles' heel, and I'll testify to that too. We had our first one replaced because the latch broke after a few months, and then the latch on the second one broke after a few more months.
Now my wife uses a hair elastic to keep it closed. I guess it is still better than nothing, but I wouldn't pay for one of these cases. | 1 | Today | Mildly good case I like the case but the way it locks leaves a little to be desired. I am a medical student and needed something to keep my Palm secure. This case helps but I found that a Pelican case works much better. I also found that the case scratches easily leaving the black undercoat exposed looking like it has gone through a war and back. | 3 | Today | Perfect! Wanted to protect my new PDA - this is perfect, a little bulkier than I would have liked, however I can toss it in my purse or bag and not worry about damaging it....or turning it on and running the batteries | 4 | Today | Very good protector This is a necessary tool for the Tungsten E2. The flimsy cover provided by Palm will not protect your new PDA. I find mind very handy to use. It is not necessary to take the PDA out of the case in order to charge or synchronize it. | 5 | Today |
