| Review | Rating | Last Updated | It Grinds Meat This meat grinder is easy to assemble and does a good job grinding meat. I have only used it for beef to make burgers - about 8 burgers at a time. It cleans relatively easy, especially if you run saltines through it at the end of your grind. I got that tip from another review.
The grinding plate and the blade can apparently rust, but I haven't had a problem with that yet, though I have cleaned them meticulously, oiled them and stored them in wax paper. When I first unpacked them, they smelled like elementary school art class. I don't think it would make you sick, but I gave all of the components a really good wash before I started grinding.
To the important part - are the burgers better? I would vote yes. If you use a nice cut of sirloin, the burgers are amazing. Plus, I feel safer about cooking them medium rare, or rare. You can also grind sweet onions into the beef which ads a lot of flavor. I have been smoking my burgers for 30 minutes at 180* using mesquite on my Traeger grill and then cooking at a high heat on a Weber grill. Perfection.
| 5 | Today | Meat grinder excellent I have used this meat grinder several times now and really like it. I was a little intimidated by it but it is easy to set up, simple to clean and works like a dream.I have used it for chicken, beef, and pork and even used it to mix various sausages with the meat I was grinding. It also ground the onions, peppers and spices I was adding to the meats for meatloaf without a problem. I agree with the recommendation to use a slice of bread occasionally to help clean the machine out. I am allergic to wheat , so I tried a little oatmeal and an apple which worked just fine. Neither is necessary, though. The machine comes apart readily, and cleans quickly and easily. I love it! (Now if only I can convince my cats that they should be eating real meat instead of kitty kibble)! | 5 | Today | Worth the cost. I went thru 3 Kitchen Aid grinder attachments and finally gave up on that. Did some research and this one seemed to be a good bet. I have been using it for 3 years now, mostly grinding chuck and round roasts for burgers. It does a fine job. Motor is plenty strong and feeds well, rarely needing to use the plunger. Watch cleaning it up, there are a few crevasses around and on the "feeder". I didn't notice them for a couple of times and had to use a tooth pick and an ice pick to get it clean (fortunately we didn't get sick). If you wash it in hot water and soap as soon as you're done, it cleans up good. The detachable base does not get soiled. All in all, I would definately but it again. | 5 | Today | Nice Grinder. Nice grinder. Have made several batches of sausage and had no problems. Its also very easy to clean. | 5 | Today | Living up to expectation So far this product is living up to expectations. I use the grinder primarily for preparing raw meals for dogs, but will be trying my hand with sausage pretty soon.
I don't process chicken fat or skin in this grinder, so I can't comment on clogs. I haven't had any problems with beef (no bones) or chicken (with bones). No jams, clogs, or slowdowns. I'd love a wider hopper, but I imagine that only comes with much more powerful, commercial high-use machines.
The balance of this machine seems fine, and the noise is much less than I anticipated after reading other reviews.
Cleanup is easy; I had more problems getting the plate cap off, even with the tightening/loosening tool that comes with the machine. The good-quality blade and plates can rust, so storing them in olive oil immediately after drying takes care of that easily and quickly. If you've ever owned cast iron or carbon, you'll already be familiar with this.
So, on this New Year Day, as I get up late and get ready to hang out and have fun with loved ones, I'm tellin' ya, this grinder works well and I'm looking forward to having fun with it. Plus, it's shiny!
Happy New Year, everyone. | 4 | Today | I'm so happy!! There it is on my kitchen Counter. Too pretty to be packed away and so accessable when I want to make my homemade sausage or grind beef for dinner. It works like a charm. I would recommend this meat grinder to anyone who likes or needs to have low , or no fat in their diet. I also grind lean pork for sausage. Thanks Waring.
| 5 | Today | Great grinder at a good price I have used this grinder for a couple of weeks to process the trimmings on an elk and antelope (about 60 lbs of trim). It has performed flawlessly so far. It is easy to use, and easy to clean, and appears to but very well constructed. It its price range it seems like the best option. I would have given it 5 stars, but I have not really used other grinders- except for the kitchen aid meat grinding attachment. I bought that this year and after grinding about 6 lbs of trim the main drive gear in my mixer broke. Thinking it was probably the result of some wear; I replaced the gear and started to grind again. The same thing happened. I returned the mixing attachment and returned the stripped gears to kitchen Aid (I haven't heard back from them)- DO NOT BUY THE MEAT GRINDER ATTACHMENT FOR A KITCHEN AID MIXER! I have used the sausage attachments that come with the grinder and they work great. Also I purchased an LEM 2" attachment for packing poly bags of burger and sausage- this model corresponds to their #8 grinder. The one thing I don't like about the grinder is the meat stomper- it is hollow with a cap to store accessories, a solid one would be better. I definitely recommend this grinder for someone processing game. | 4 | Today | meat grinder This grinder is great. I bought it to grind meat with bones for my dogs. I have ground up all parts of a chicken in it. It is easy to clean and very stable. If I had a complaint it would be the jet (noise) engine. I love it. Highly reccomended. | 5 | Today | Great little machine but... Recently purchased the MG-800 and started making sausage. The machine is easy to use and clean and does what it claims to do. Two issues I have found with it are:
1. Hopper sides are a bit low and the bottom is flat. This makes spillages a bit of a problem and working alone a bit more complex.
2. Machine could be heavier. I have managed to almost topple it a few times when using the meat pushing rod.
All in all a good purchase so far.
| 4 | Today | grinder great-hard working machine. Too bad it is not dishwasher safe | 4 | Today |
