I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS! Very low price for a SUPER high quality sound! The base is AMAZING! By far the best speakers I have ever owned. I bought a second pair for my brother and they blew him away too. Sound quality is comparable to speakers that cost 4 to 5 times as much! I bought these speakers, and I really like them. I do get the noise others mentioned, but if I keep my phone away from the speakers, I don't get the noise. For $20, it's a no brainer. The sound is very, very good, not great, but very good. | 4 | Today | Love these speakers!
I was thinking about buying a small stereo for my dorm room but decided to get these speakers for my computer instead. The sound is AMAZING!! Very powerful speakers and nice crisp, rich sound. I am so glad that I bought these instead of a stereo, much cheaper and sound better than any stereo systems I looked at.

I don't understand why so many people are complaining about these. I was passing my cell and cordless phones all around them and heard only minimal interference when the phone was 3 inches away. I'm sorry, but these are excellent speakers. | 5 | Today | Worst buy I ever made
When the unit is turned off, there is a lot of noise coming
from the speakers, as long as it is plugged in the wall. Had
to disconnect the system from the electric plug at night time
- otherwise I could not fall asleep ;)
Then, I tried to connect my guitar effects to the RCA input
jacks. However, I could barely hear any sound coming through
the speackers, even if I turn it all the way up. I've
used the same setup to connect my guitar effects to my stereo,
and no problem there, so I know it's this unit.
Wanted to return this [...] the next day, but could not find
my receipt. Shucks. Now I've taked the unit to the office,
assuming the noise would be less annoying because of our office
air vents. Nope. Noise is so bad, I have to unplug the system
if I don't want to listen to music.
For $50, I'm sure this is a very very bad buy. For $50,
any other alternative is most likely a better buy that this.

And if you choose to go against this advaice, make sure you

this is the worst set of speakers i have ever owned. the quality itself is not bad, but as the other reviews mentioned, they pick up EMI very easily. they are so senstive that i have to turn off my phone every night to avoid being awaken by these speakers. (i don't like turning off the speakers, because the only way to eliminate the buzzing noise is to unplug the power, but every time u plug the power back in, the speakers make a LOUD popping noise. what's ridiculous is that even the manual mentions the "known problem", but altec lansing still decides to sell this p.o.s.) i've emailed and called tech support about the buzzing sounds caused by cell phones, but they offer useless advice like using ferrite beads (which i tried and they did not work). save urself frustration, time, and money by not buying these guys. if u really want them, i'll be glad to sell you my set (if i haven't gotten rid of them already). | 1 | Today | for the price, you can't beat em
I wanted a inexpensive three piece for work. These fit the ticket. The High end is very detailed. The low end is a bit too mid bass heavy, but if you eq the bass, they sound very good. I have the best 2.1 system money can buy and I spent $300 for those. I spent $40 for these. To compare, the Klipsch are a 10. These are a seven. | 4 | Today | No problems

Bought these 6 months ago, was pleased for a week and then the interference began. Every cell phone in my or nearby apartments set off a loud buzzing noise and even when the speakers were unplugged from my computer AND the power outlet, radio interference at easily-audible levels was present. The manufacturer offerered not a replacement but the suggestion that I purchase some ferrite beads to rectify the problem. These are speakers I would wish only on an enemy.
(Postscript: I went back to my retailer and they gave me a terrific deal on some Logitech X-230s after hearing my story. They were cheaper than the Altec-Lansings and are as quiet as all get-out. Good sound, too.) | 1 | Today | Great Sound BUT - Avoid in Apartment or Close Quarter Setting
The Altec Lansing speakers arrived with a system that I had custom ordered from a great online company. I have to admit, that I was very dedicated in researching every aspect and part of my new system. Except.. unfortunatly, for the speakers.
The Altec Lansing speakers have great sound, and when there is no interference it comes through crisp. Playing games or watching movies can be a real treat with these speakers. On the downside, these speakers *constantly* pick-up interference. Cell phones, a wireless hookup, infact just about any other form of electronics seems to be able to trigger loud pops and a very loud hum from the speaker. This is made more difficult for me since I live in an apartment setting and am constantly exposed to the wandering and random electronics of our neighbors.
We have our system in the system in our bedroom and have been woken up by the subwoofer humming randomly. Not pleasant. The subwoofer has gone days without making a sound before, but when it does, you'll be wishing you bought something else. I urge you to keep looking, there has to be a better option out there somewhere. | 2 | Today |
