really picks up the dirt. but if you are looking for something to use on bare floors too, don't get this vacuum. it just blows the dirt all around. for carpets, its wonderful. | 4 | Today | Good stuff.
I read the reviews here before I bought it, and I can say they were all correct. It picks up my lab's hair and has pretty good suction.
Yes, the hush mode is a joke, and the stair attachment doesn't work well, but it's definitely good for pet hair! | 5 | Today | Works Great

This vacuum worked like a dream for about 2 months. And then constant clogging and cleaning and loss of suction. I had to throw it away - really after just two months.
High DON"T recommend this vacuum. Very aggravating experience and a waste of money and PS - Hoover really doesn't care about it's consumers either.
I suggest something else, like a dyson maybe - so far they have better overall ratings.

This vacuum does do a very good job, so I cannot complain too much.
However, using it in an apartment with 4 girls with long hair can make it kind of irritating. Most of the vacuums we used before didn't ever pick up all the hair at all, but this one does. The problem is, it has a brush on the bottom where it sucks things up, and instead of sucking the hair up, A LOT gets stuck in the bristles. It really gets kind of digusting to have to pick it out of there, and if you leave it in, it gets tangled up. But really I am thankful it picks it up at all.
Also, I've seen other people complaining about the part of the vacuum popping open a lot, and I think they might have installed that hose upside down. One of my friends put that part together for me, and I could never figure out why it would not stay. I bought this vacuum after reading the reviews on this site. I wouldn't buy it again. While the vacuum will pick up dirt when the hose is attached, I spend more time reattaching the hose than actually vacuuming. The hose comes off repeatedly to the point where I finally taped it to the vacuum. As far as cleaning, I have three dogs and could probably do a better job of cleaning with a previous 20 year old vacuum. It's not worth the money and definitely not worth the aggravation in reattaching the hose repeatedly while trying to use it. | 2 | Today | I had no idea my carpets were so nasty!
We used to be carpet powder users. Sprinkle sprinkly, vacuum it up. Well, when we got this vacuum, imagine our surprise when we spent 2 days sucking up all the powder our previous vacuum left behind!
No more dog, cat or people hair, no more need for carpet powders. We have had to replace the HEPA filter twice, but seeing how bad our carpets were in the first place, it was a small price to pay. Wonderful product! | 5 | Today | Parts Ordering
I have read all 40 reviews and agree with all of them. It is a great vacuum for cleaning, its powerful, the hush mode is a joke, the switch in the handle is easy to change when moving the unit around, sometimes the hose pops out, its messy to clean, but other than all this, it does do the job and do it well.
I thought that I would order extra parts since they are impossible to find in the store. I used the form that came with the owners manuel in the back and this may have been a mistake, I should have used the internet at hoover.com It has been almost three month now and still no parts. The check was cashed and I talked to six representatives at hoover customer service and they know nothing about my order or check that was sent somewhere in Ohio. It would appear that somewhere in hoover my parts and check were lost. They have no idea what happens when you use the address form in the manuel. Oh well...................
I didn't save a copy of the address which I believe was a P.O. box number. If anyone has this information in the back of their manuel, please post it in these reviews for me to write to please.

It does a very good job on carpet,and collects a very impressive amount of dirt and is fairly light,but that's about it, its very messy to empty, has a very short hose, it likes to spit sand all over my bare floors, it needs another extension tube, the handle is a little too short for me, and the colored light is useless. Im not too impressed with its "Hush" mode and "Turbo" mode I Think a vacuum should automaticly be quiet yet powerful. There are pros and cons with this vacuum.
The worst part about it is the Hush mode. I purchased it so I could vacuum above my second story neighbor every day without all of the noise. Wrong. The hush mode does not sound that much different than the regular vacuum mode. Bummer for me.
The vacuum cleaner is quite heavy for a 105 pound person (especially going upstairs with it). Also, the front of the vacuum cleaner is wide so it did not fit between chairs etc. in my small condo space. It would be great for a large home or condo with a large area to vacuum.
The good points are that it has a super long cord, it does pick up a lot of cat/dog hair and the bagless system is easy to empty.
In the future I would go to the store to pick a vacuum instead of ordering one on-line without seeing it , hearing the sound and picking it up. My bad. : )
