Thanks a million!
I teach pasta making classes on a regular basis and have always used a hand cranked pasta machine. Last week a friend brough over his KA rollers for me to try. We attached them to my KA mixer, and WOW! It was incredibly easy and made the absolute best textured pasta I've ever had - EVER! I was so excited by the thought of being able to make extruded pastas with these plates I was going to jump on here and buy them right away --- that is until I read all these horrible reviews. THANK YOU EVERYONE!! I guess I'll stick with my fettucine, linguine and lasagna and buy the wonderful rollers instead!

Nice idea; looks good, but doesn't work too well & will kill your mixer!
I was eager to try this gadget out last night with my new mixer and food grinder attachment, so I followed the Basic Pasta Recipe in the manual. After letting the dough rest for 15 - 30 mins by the cool window-sill (didn't have space in my fridge), I hooked up the attachments with the spaghetti plate, set the mixer at Speed 10 according to the instructions and dropped a walnut-sized dough ball into the chute. It took a while for the dough to extrude and eveything stuck together. I tried to sprinkle flour as it came out but it was difficult, since the strands hung straight down. Even when I lifted them up to dust them, they were still stuck together. I tried a few more times, shutting down the mixer every few minutes as the motor was getting really hot. I thought the problem would be resolved by using the fettucine plate (thicker strands), but the strands still stuck together since the "holes" were placed vertically. My Heavy Duty Plus mixer was burning up and I didn't want to "kill" it, so I stopped the machine, put the dough and srands in a Ziploc bag and threw it into the fridge. I had had enough - there was flour all over the counter and mixer from trying to dust the extruding strands which didn't help make them "unstick" at all; and clean up was even worse. I spent more time trying to get the dough out of crevices, the plates, and even the grinder cover than I did on making only a small portion of pasta from the dough! The only thing I like about this set is the bowl clips and that might be the only reason I would keep this set, since I got it for less than half the price at another store during a sale. This morning I decided to have egg noodle soup for lunch, so I boiled the spaghetti and fettucine strands separately from the soup. They tasted great! The rest of the dough - I guess I'll have to roll it out and cut it manually. Note: I added 1/2 tsp baking powder to the flour to make the pasta/noodles lighter and more airy in texture. The problem could be with my recipe, but that doesn't fix the burning motor problem, so I would recommend using a manual pasta machine or the pasta roller/cutter attachments rather than burning up your mixer.

KitchenAid SNPA Pasta Maker Plates for Food Grinder
I wish I hadn't of bought this. I read another review where they said smoke was coming out of their mixer. I thought towards the end of making pasta with these attachments, that mine too would burn up the motor. I have the pasta rollers and cutters. More expensive but soooo much easier to work with and less stress on your mixer.

Nice set.
Love the container that holds all the blades, bowl clips, etc. in one place. It keeps it all together, so I'm not constantly looking and rummaging through drawers to find the parts. However, I was not aware that I needed the grinder to be able to use these blades. I thought they were add ons for my pasta rollers (duh! right?) Anyway, I had to order the grinder before using these blades. I just received the grinder, so have not had a chance to use the blades yet. I am, however, looking forward to using this set, especially with the price of pasta going sky high along with all the rest of the groceries. (THANK YOU OIL COMPANIES!!!)

works great
Have always wanted to try making pasta. This is an easy way to do it. I thought it might take some practice to get it right but my first batch of pasta turned out great!

This Product is Lame!
We were very disappointed with this product. Normally Kitchen Aid products that we have bought have exceeded our expectations for quality and performance but this one falls short.

Great little pasta maker
Couldn't wait to use this item. I made the dough as directed. Make sure to let it rest. I did 30 mins in the refrigerator. Then I set up the disks and put in my walnut size pieces of dough. The spaghetti came out. It stuck together. I think next time I will load up my turkey baster with flour so I can give the emerging strands enough of a dusting so they won't stick together. The clumps may not have looked appetising but they tasted great! My husband remarked that they reminded him of his grandmother's homemade noodles(which he loved)! It won't take long for me to get the whole thing down pat!

So much easier than I expected.
After reading so many unfavorable reviews, I was hesitant to purchase this pasta attachment. I have made pasta using the roller/ fettuccini /linguini attachements, but I prefer spaghetti. The day after I received the attachment in the mail, I decided to try making spaghetti. I used my own pasta recipe, but I took the advice in the instruction manuel and I sifted the flour first to make it easier on the machine. I pulled the pasta dough apart into small chunks and dropped them into the feed tube, and it worked like a charm starting with the first batch. I didn't have any problem with the pasta curling. The spaghetti was somewhat warm and sticky when it came through, so I just seperated it with my fingers and tossed it with flour. I made over a pound of pasta, and it cooked up in 2 minutes. I will be using this attachment often!

Worthless atachment
I have a manual pasta roller that makes great pasta. I thought this attachment might make the process easier, but it doesn't work. Kitchenaid should stop selling this product because it is next to impossible to make it work. The noodles curl as they come out of the plates and unless you have an extremely dry dough, the noodles stick to one another. I even went as far as mounting the mixer so the noodles would extrude straight down, but they still managed to stick together. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Takes some practice, but great results!
This is the first pasta maker I have ever used and I am pleased with the results. It is easy to use and clean; and once I figured out the right dough recipe (drier than I would have thought) the results have been great! I have even used it for angel hair and I didn't have a problem with sticking. I think you need to make sure to let the pasta dry for at least fifteen minutes before boiling for best results. I bought this with the food grinder attachment, so it was a great deal.
