| Review | Rating | Last Updated | good thermometer works perfect for what it was made. for the price it should multifunction as multiple thermometers. | 4 | Today | Digital Thermometer I have used this Digital Thermometer to fry various fresh and frozen food items. After I select the display option, I like that this thermometer beeps every time the oil goes back up to the "set" temperature. | 5 | Today | Awesome This has to be the best candy thermometer made. The only complaint is that it would be nice if the readout wasn't quite so big so it would be easier to store. | 5 | Today | Kept shutting off I was using it to monitor the temperature of fondant for making chocolate covered cherries. You have to dip the cherries into the melted fondant and the temp has to stay around 100 degrees. I don't know if it was because the temp was so low but the unit kept on shutting off after about 5 minutes of use and I had to keep turning it back on. When it was working I liked having the digital readout because those analog thermometers are so subjective. One look and you know the exact temperature. If you look at the analogs from the side it looks different than looking at it from the top or the other side. And of course, as my byline says, I do "love my gadgets" so I will keep it and see how it works with something else. | 3 | Today | Delighted Customer I am very pleased with the candy thermometer. I make an old-fashioned fudge recipe, and the cheap thermometer didn't work accurately enough and I ruined three batches. This digital thermometer is a dream kitchen tool for this purpose. The fudge came out perfectly! | 5 | Today | Waste of Money! Sorry, but this one was a waste of good money for me. Used it for my candy and it never did register the proper "soft ball" temp. I knew I'd overcooked my candy and just gave up on it. It's sitting in a drawer now and I can't bring myself to toss it but I should.
:-( Very disappointed!!! | 1 | Today | So far so good! I purchased this thermometer after many, many failed attempts at making candy with a paddle thermometer, which was as I suspected, not accurate and the numbers rubbed off which made me unable to use it anymore. So far this thermometer has worked great! I've used it in both candy and frying and it hasn't failed me yet. The only con I can think of is that it will start beeping and go into it's "warning" mode when it shouldn't be. I have to assume that the tip is too close to the bottom of the pot, because often I'll move the thermometer when it does that and it registers a temp again and quits beeping the warning. This thermometer, so far, is well worth the heftier price than the non-digital variety. | 5 | Today | Works For Me, But Not Intuitive I like this thermometer. It's presets cover about everything you'll ever need. I like the way it swivels and tilts. It fits securely onto pots. The audible alert works great.
Perhaps I don't use it enough because I find it taxing to set one of the presets without the instructions. I usually turn it on and manually monitor the temperature.
I've had the thermometer for years and I've had no problems with performance. I recommend this over analog. If you are doing basic candy making and frying, this will work well for you. If you want to be able to set your own presets, this is not the unit for you. | 3 | Today | This is great I bought this for my husband and son to make candy. They had seen it on Good Eats and it has turned out to be the best one they have ever used. | 5 | Today | So Far So Good I read a lot of negative opinions about this item and was reluctant to purchase it but decided to due to a lack of a better alternative. So far it seems to do the job great. I have only used it twice and have had it about a month and most complaints are after a longer period of owning it. I will write back if it turns into a nightmare as other users said. For now, I cant complain except that you cannot program the alarm to go off at your own desired temperature. However, there isnt one that does currently so this will work. | 5 | Today |
