| Review | Rating | Last Updated | The Perfect Wine Glass Riedel is the best for a reason. These are beautiful large glasses, perfect for reds. | 5 | Today | Fine but not fragile I own the Overture magnum, white wine and champagne glasses. I love them. They look and feel delicate without being overly fragile. I'm a wine fan and love exploring but wouldn't consider myself a wine snob. My parents have glasses from a more expensive Riedel line which is admittedly more finely made but ridiculously fragile. No matter how careful I am I seem to always break one while washing them. Not so with the Overture series. These make wonderful everyday wine glasses. | 5 | Today | Poor quality control I've been a Riedel user for many years, including a set of the Sommelier series. These Ouverture Magnums have been our everyday wine glasses, and when some break I order more. The most recent set was very disappointing, with visible striations on the rim edges from substandard "polishing" on all four glasses, and you can feel the roughness when you run your fingernail along it. So think twice or three times before you buy, and recognize that you get what you pay for. | 2 | Today | My thoughts on Riedel wine glasses I always thought that any glass would do until I tries the Riedel brand.
These last ones were a gift to my grandson. I myself really like the stemless ones, but the quality is the same. | 5 | Today | Average at best Dpn't be fooled by the Riedel name on these. These glasses are average at best, nothing like Riedels higher end lines. Definitely a 'name cheapening' product. Splurge for the Vinum line - you won't be disappointed. | 2 | Today | Good low end but check out new Vivants I got a bunch of Overtures when Amazon was discounting them heavily but never did like the stumpy proportions. Now Riedel has apparently come out with a new low end line, Vivant, that it is selling through Target which is available through Amazon web site. For about the same price, it appears that you get a somewhat better glass. | 4 | Today | Big glasses for big reds Really big red wines deserve a really big glass. The Reidel Magnum has just the right capacity and design to let that big red open up to full potential. After many sips, you can even get tacky, lick your finger, swirl the rim, and let the lead-free crystal sing. | 5 | Today | Riedel is the best in fine glassware. I've been using Riedel for years. (Pronounced "REEdul") Their best line is handblown Austrian crystal and is called the "Sommelier" series. VERY expensive, but peerless in quality and beauty. The next line down is also very fine and is called the "Vinum" series. My white wine glasses are from this series. My red wine glasses are from the "Overture" series -- the Magnum glasses. These are just the right size -- the Vinum can get quite large. I also prefer a shorter stem, which these have. I thought the Overture regular reds were a little too small for my taste (and smell!).
Overture is a little more durable, MUCH cheaper, but not quite as elegant. Still, they are very nice glassware and certainly nice enough to have for fine dining and guests.
I would suggest you NEVER put ANY Riedel glassware in the dishwasher. This is high quality Austrian crystal and it is definitely not a good idea to do that. | 5 | Today | It works When I first read the praises of these expensive glasses, I thought it was just more wine snob BS, but finally decided to try them. Sure enough, they make wine taste better compared to other shapes, but only you can tell if it's worth the price.
One rather blah zinfandel was transformed in the Riedel glass | 5 | Today | A great starting point... A nice first step toward seriously enjoying wine. The technical part of the Riedel design has merit, I'm sure, but like the right new suit, a classy wine glass adds another dimension to fine living. | 5 | Today |
