As with many reviews the timer knob broke after 3 months. Tried to get one through Toastmaster and Salton with no luck. Total junk! | 1 | Today | Dreadful appliance
Pure garbage. Virtually everything broke except the cord. Handle came off, knobs broke, tray warped, and outer shell lost its color and couldn't be cleaned. Worst quality product I've ever purchased. | 1 | Today | What an awful disappointment!
I loved my last toastmaster toaster oven, a "cool steel" one that didn't get hot on the outside among other things, and I searched far and wide for a replacement, nothing else would do! This was the closest thing I could find. I hate it, it's awful. Takes a long time for some things, it is very difficult to time them correctly, and burns other things to a crisp. The rack sets too close to the element so the top of what you are cooking can burn before the rest is even very warm. We have nearly burned the house down with this thing numerous times because there is no "toast" setting or button, just a lower range on the timer, which is way too long. Also that range is on the bottom of the dial, so at counter height the marks under the dial are kind of hidden from view.
YOu have to stand there and pay really close attention while toasting, and if you are distracted, be prepared to take the battery out of your smoke detector and air the house out. I don't like the new deeper shape either, makes you reach way into that hot box to get the stuff out. The marks wore off around the timer dial right away so it is hard to know how much time you are setting something for.
Anyway, it's just a real disappointment and I could go on - but I wrote things out in a more intelligible manner than I have done here and sent my comments to Salton (toastmaster) and they basically responded "sorry you feel that way" and that was it. We have had this toaster for about two months and twice the toast has caught on fire, because the timer setting does not always switch the oven off when the time is up. Pretty scary, frankly, and after we almost had a fire in our kitche we threw the whole oven out.
It is also very bulky to fit on a countertop, and difficult to use. Even after two months of using it, I really miss the simple Black and Decker toaster oven we had for five years. NEVER did anything catch on fire in that oven. | 1 | Today | I Like It!

I wanted an affordable toaster oven that I could use for simple things like frozen waffles, bagels, bread, and the occasional reheated item like pizza, ect. This product has failed on all counts. It has never toasted or warmed anything evenly since the day I bought it. I kept using it thinking it was new and the coils just needed to be worn in a little so they wouldn't leave burn lines on eveything I put in there. But 6 months later no such luck. I began standing there watching it and flipping my food over every few minutes to avoid the burns lines, but even then it would just end up with tan lines on both sides rather than evenly toasting. I should have returned it when I had the chance, but the purchase and return shipping would have ended up costing more than the item so it hardly seemed worth it. I've kept it a while since then always meaning to get a new one but not getting around to it yet. Then two weeks ago the handle to the toaster door fell off in my hands. I guess the glue wore off from heat, who knows. I placed it back on so I could use it until the weekend when we would replace the whole thing, but two days later the timer knob broke off in my hand as I tried to make breakfast. This thing is a total piece of junk. It is poorly made, poor quality toasting, and barely worth the $30 I paid. About a month after I got this toaster oven (and just a few uses) the timer knob broke off. Since there is no off setting for the timer, the toaster is on continuously unless it's unplugged. It's a piece of junk and not worth the money. | 1 | Today | Not happy with this toaster - many problems
Received this toaster as a Christmas present in 2004. From day one I was not very happy with it. The knobs and temperature control are difficult to use - sometimes it would bake good, other times it would not. About 6 months ago I noticed the numbers were rubbed off of the timer dial. About 3 months ago the timer dial became loose and it was difficult to set the time. Today the timer dial broke off completely. So I got about a year and a half of poor use out of it. So, don't purchase this product, it is not worth it. | 1 | Today | Anyone know where I can get a new knob??
I agree with most reviews that the toast function sucks. Although I haven't noticed one side being hotter than the other, a portion of my timer knob chipped and now I have to use a screwdriver to set the time. I've also has a very difficult time toasting nuts! They always get burnt. | 3 | Today | On fire
Our toastmaster oven caught fire over the weekend. We were lucky that the toaster oven was the only casualty. Of course there was also the mess to clean up after the use of the fire extinguisher. It could have been disastrous. I think we only had the toaster oven for barely 6 months. I will not be buying this model again. | 1 | Today |
