| Review | Rating | Last Updated | sleek and easy to clean If you leave your toaster out on your counter all of the time, this one is very easy to keep clean. The crumb tray is not attached, the toaster simply sits on it so there are no clips to break when cleaning out the crumbs. The tray is also very easy to hand wash since it is a simple tray.
I really like the chime when the toast is done. It is a nice simple bell, no loud rude buzzer in the morning, and the toast isn't sitting there because I didn't notice it was ready.
It did take some time to get use to the toasting gage. It is very sensitive. Start with it very low, then move it up a bit to get to know it. The side of the bread that faces the middle gets a bit darker, this is great for crust items like english muffins. It also makes a bit of a low hum when it first heats up, that soon goes away.
I'm quite happy with this purchase. | 4 | Today | One little issue... My husband designed and built our kitchen. When he finished, we were on the lookout for great looking, yet functional appliances. The De'Longhi DTT980 Esclusivo 4-slice was our choice for its streamlined, non-toaster appearance. Because it is slim, it gives us way more counter space than a regular toaster and fits right in with our other stainless steel appliances. The long slots are great, too. We love the flexibility of using this for french bread, etc. Last night we toasted some Naan bread, that would have been impossible to do in a regular 4-slice.
We are getting used to the automatic drop (when you put a slice of bread in the front slot, it automatically goes down, a neat feature, except when you just want to put the bread in the toaster, awaiting your decision of when it goes down. The only issue we have is that even at its lowest setting, we have burnt bread around the edges. Eventually, we will get used to pushing the button early for it to stop, but this is not something we should have to worry about. For those people who want a perfectly toasted slice of bread, evenly done on both sides, we say either get a different toaster or enjoy this for all its good attributes. | 4 | Today | High design toaster This is a beautiful looking toaster with a warming rack, which is hard to find in the US.
It toasts somewhat uneven with one side of the toast darker than the other. It also humms when toasting. However, the automatic lift and signal when toasting is done are great.
It is also very easy to clean as the whole base functions as crumb catcher.
| 5 | Today | Beauty is Skin Deep Hands down, The most stylish toaster out there. If you are looking for a striking accent for your counter top but don't intend to use it, this is the toaster for you. When I called to return it, no questions were asked. They even paid the shipping! This will be my last Delonghi purchase. | 1 | Today | Great Looks but Look Elsewhere High hopes for this fantastic looking toaster. Initially it worked well, then as with some of the other reviewers, it began to work unevenly, toasting one side of the bread or bagel much more than the other. It also started getting fussy about staying down in toasting mode after inserting a piece of bread. Eventually, just after 1 year of age, the chip that controls the toaster completely failed and the toaster will no longer stay down. A real disappointment. | 2 | Today | unpredictable The toaster has good looks and fits on the counter very well; however, it prooved to be completely unpredictable when it came to actual toasting. For example, on the lightest setting the toast would be very lightly toasted or burned black, with either outcome on the same setting occurring repeatedly. Therefore you could not predict how the toaster would react on specific settings. Disappointing. | 2 | Today | great toaster & great look After years of having boring white or black toasters this one is great looking. It even "thinks" for itself. You put the bread in and it goes down & starts to toast. One caveat-keep it on the lowest heat because it's very very powerful and will overtoast your bread if not careful. The little blue button is cute and will allow you to release the bread before the bell rings. It's also easy to clean up compared to past toasters from Krups and Braun, just lift the toaster off the tray and you're done. Now I'm looking for such a high-tech coffee maker from DeLonghi-love the style and the functionality. | 4 | Today | Great functionality and beautiful too LOVE this toaster. Looks fab! Works like a dream. The base of the toaster is the crumb tray so it keeps itself pretty clean and it is easy to toss the crumbs. The only think is you have to remember that the base tray is not attached to the main body when picking it up. The toasting slots sense when you place bread in and automatically lower then with a nice little bell raise your toast up to you. The toasting function works really well producing nice even toasting. The warming function is also great to keep slices of toast warm. Also warms up cold torillas nicely. I am really happy with my beautiful toaster. I was a little hesitant to buy it sight unseen on the internet - but it does not seem to be carried in many storesso far. | 5 | Today | The Terrible Toaster Over the years I've had several toasters and all have performed acceptably but this overpriced unit is unbelieveably bad at doing the job. I tried several slices in different positions and all came out toasted on one side with virtually no browning on the other plus the left edge of all slices were burned black. Unless you want it for an "art" display in your kitchen get another brand. I'm going back to my old Cuisinart which has worked flawlessly for years. | 2 | Today | Just say no. Amazing that in 2005 you can read review after review on Amazon about the poor quality of almost every toaster offered. We hoped this one would be an exception. It was, but only in that it may be the poorest of them all. Ours buzzed loudly whenever in use. Never had a toaster buzz before. We toast bread at least twice a day, and the toasting performance of this unit is horrible. It has no bagel setting (which toasts the cut side more than the crust side), so we ended up with one side burnt and the other barely starting to toast. What's more, it toasts completely unevenly. One corner of toast will be blackened while the far corner will barely be tanned. And it's really annoying when a 4-slice toaster does not allow you to operate the heating elements independently. As far as looks go, De'Longhi did just as bad a job. The photos look cool, but the crumb tray this unit "sits" upon is actually wider than the unit itself, so there is a big uneven gap at the seam. It's the lower line you see in the photos--but they make it look real nice for that! What you don't see is the other side of the toaster where the bottom crumb tray will be sticking out several MM from the side of the toaster rather than being flush as shown. This makes it look broken, like two pieces of something that no longer fit together. If De'Longhi had spent even a second thinking about this, they would have done the opposite: The bottom tray should be slightly smaller than the toasting unit, which would give the unit a seamless look rather than a busted look. (We even went to a store [yes, a real store] to confirm that they are all like this, and they are.) Also, the bread warming rack is another poorly designed element. There are 4 tiny plastic feet inserted into the four metal posts of the rack so it doesn't scratch the metal surface of the toaster. However, two of the feet had already fallen out during shipping, and though they slipped right back in, all four of the tiny feet can easily be removed or fall out (only friction holds them in) and you WILL loose them very quickly--especially if you ever wash the rack. We're happy to pay extra for a quality item--even a toaster--but we expect something in return besides utter dissapointment. Final advice: Stick to the $20 toasters with functions such as bagel, defrost, and dual controls. If it's ugly, keep it under the sink and only take it out when you use it. This one looks broken, performs poorly, and costs a lot of money. If you do buy this model, maybe you'll get ours...we returned it. | 1 | Today |
