| Review | Rating | Last Updated | great flight sim experience I have been having my X52 for about three weeks, and I can say that it definitely boost up my flight sim experience. Amazon did a great job advertising (as well as providing info) ont the product, and they're excellent on delievery! If you are a big airplane buff and/or flight simmer like me, I'd recommend this product to you. It's a must-have item! I'm now running FSX and FS2004 on my machine, and the control works great on both. One thing I'm still trying to get used to is that the number of buttons on the control. There are lots of them, and quite honestly I haven't figured or made good use of them. However, you can definitely make your flight experience more enjoyable by making good use of this control. Overall, I give it a 10/10, although it might be a bit expensive, but it is worth the investment. Again, if you're a flight simmer, this is a must-have! | 5 | Today | Great Joystick For a Good Price I'm gonna keep this short and to the point. Basically, everything about this joystivk works, and works very well. Flight Simulator plays like a dream, as well as every other flight game on the PC. You simply can't go wrong with a Saitek X52. | 5 | Today | Saitek X-52 Cool look and feel if you're not a stickler for current aircraft detail. Way cheaper than a Thrustmaster, looks so cool in the dark with the blue LEDs. Solid constructions to withstand the most demanding motions. Enough capability for any simulator. | 5 | Today | Awesome Stick I've been a flight sim nut for several years, and the X52 is simply the best joystick I've ever used. | 5 | Today | Throttle control axes Despite frequent visits to "control axes" settings, Flight Simulator X would not respond to Saitek X52 Fllight Control System throttle commands. Tech support email response was timely, but instructions were of no benefit. Unit now resides at the local landfill. Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, its replacement, is performing well. | 1 | Today | great hardware, needs work on software The hardware is top notch, everything works smoothly and has a quality feel to it.
But rather than install the driver on the enclosed CD, you should go to their website and download the latest version. This is especially true if you're running Windows Vista - the driver on my CD does not work at all. Even then, the Vista version does not show a 3D view of the controller in the "profile editor". These limitations aside, it works fine. | 4 | Today | Disappointed in control sensitivity Got a Flight Simulator X program for Xmas. Really looked forward to flying (no previous experience with any program or equipment). So I thought I'd get a good control system, shelled out $110 for the Saitek X52 system. Finding it extremely frustrating and difficult to complete even the simple beginner's tutorial programs because the joystick does not respond to very light pressure to bank and make small direction corrections. Doesn't respond at all until joystick is leaned over 30 dgrees, and then reacts to over-correct direction. Have tried adjusting the sensitivity slide adjustment on the throttle with little apparent help. Joystick works OK for elevator (climb-descend}. Wish I had started out with one of the cheaper $30-$40 joysticks. | 1 | Today | Close to greatness I have had ten different sticks in my 20 years of fighter simulations, mostly sidewinders and logitech sticks, this is my first time going saitek as I had been on the fence with the configuration of the grip and how it fits the hand, so here I am with a saitek x-52 and here is my two cents.
The Hotus is great, i wouldnt change a thing here, the throttle is bulky but you dont really need to get your hand around it, just on top, the buttons are all very easy to use and it has a mouse utility which is very useful in Falcon 4.0 when you are flying combat and want to switch your multi function displays without having to release the stick and grabbing your mouse to do the function.
The stick? well I am not very pleased with it, I no sooner get it out of the box and it starts squeeking like a dying rat, its great to have squeeking booming over game sound, really works the mood. And the button layout and grip design dont fit well together, the button that is obviosly suppose to be the missle button is too hi on the stick, when you try to go for a missle shot and be in a turn with rudder you lose grip on the stick and the rudder fades, the way the stick is built with the large potrusion on the left side where you fingers should be wrapping the grip keeps you from doing so, you end up with a loose three finger grip and a stiff rudder control, I have large construction strengthened hands, if anyone can hold the stick it would be me, it is a poor design, the stick needs to be more ergo fitted and the buttons more compact, lose a couple buttons if you have to, what good are they if you cant hold the stick? I ended up putting my missle launch on the hat thats on the hotus, the missle button on the stick was useless for presicion dogfighting. Heck i would bet if they at least got rid of the potrusion on the left side of the stick? it would make the stick 50% better and alot more usefull.
I think it is a good stick, it could be alot better with some tweeking, and yes I have messed with the settings (I think possibly it will get easier with time) | 3 | Today | good hardware, bad software At the moment, I can only give this product 2 stars for a typical experience. The current profile editor is absolutely terrible. Is it a coincidence saitek was recently bought out by madcatz and now the profile editor has gone to trash? I can only speculate.
To make this a 4.5 star product, search and download the old SD5 series profile editor and you'll have a much better experience. I know the sd5 works with windows XP. I believe it may not work with Vista.
The hardware is excellent, but because of the current state of the software, I'd say stay away unless you have XP and are willing to track down old drivers. Madcatz really needs to fix the new profile editor. | 2 | Today | Perfect The Saitek X52 is the perfect combination of functionality, style, and reliability. More functions than most folks will ever need with smooth, crisp control. Excellent choice for IL2 Pacific Fighters.
Add a set of rudder pedals and a Tracker IR and you are good to go for carrier ops or world class dog fights anywhere. | 5 | Today |
