| Product Reviews from Amazon.com (Rating System 1 to 5) |
| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Bad Customer Service I spend $30 returning the scanner. The scanner won't scan image of document only to Word File. Then some of the images does not scan too well. Emailed Customer Service. Took them FIVE days just to ask me what my problem was. Got so FRUSTRATED returned the product. Never have to return an Electronic product , so my husband threw away box. End up having to spend $30 just repacking and reshipping. Save the boxes! Don't think I will buy from unknown maker. Stick to HP's or well known brand! | 1 | Today | scanner ok, software not I have a Microtek scanner and just downloaded the latest drivers. It turns out Microtek wants a program called Scan Finder to load at every start-up, and there is no way to disable this. The product works satisfactorily, but for my money, I will purchase something else. Something that doesn't create such a nuisance, and isn't so invasive. | 1 | Today | Microtek ScanMaker 5950 Have purchased multiple ScanMaker 5950 units to use for work and will do so again as needed. Easy to use, pretty much plug and play and scanning is very fast when you have multiple documents to work with at once. | 5 | Today | great for the money We just bought a second one, after the first one died after a household move and some really heavy use. Tried other scanners with document feeders that were more expensive and slower! So went back to the same Microtek model that we knew and loved. Good speed for the money (about 6 ppm, b&w, 200dpi) and the image quality is as good as our other scanners. Sometimes we have to scan a page just to get the light warmed up, but hey, it works great for the money. We need to scan many multipage documents at a time and use Adobe Acrobat with the scanner software, and it's very simple and intuitive to get good scans of even handwritten forms. | 5 | Today | Cheap scanner that works OK Bottom line, it's a cheap scanner that gets the job done, if you are willing to play with it a little bit. It took me a while to figure out how to get it to do a simple task - scan multiple page documents into a single PDF file. The software makes this a bit difficult (you have to "scan to email" and then choose a medium-high dpi setting). The hardware is acceptable, for the $55.00 I paid for it on eBay. When I'm rich I'll buy a $1,000 document scanner, but until that time, I'm doing OK with scanners like this one. | 3 | Today | Nice when it worked Worked well for about the first year, but now it will not communicate with my computer (all checks of hardware and software have failed me, of course). | 2 | Today | It does everything what they say. I like the product, but one thing. It doesn't scan both sides in one shot. Other than that, everything is good. You could trust everything the company says about the product. | 4 | Today | Great; however, watch your paper weight. First, it copies both sides without have to do the whole resort thing.
It is sensitive to light weight paper with the autofeeder, but hey, use the flatbed feature!
I have not used nor loaded the scanning software - so I will not comment on that. I have always been an Acrobat Pro type guy and it works without a hitch.
One of the best purchases I have done. | 4 | Today | Scanner Works well with XP pro setup was easy and the scanner has met all my expectation | 4 | Today | Great little scanner for the money. I ordered this scanner because we had had such good luck with another just like it that we have had for several years. This time, I did have to reinstall the software a second time when there was a problem with the scanner light seeming to stick and a ratcheting kind of sound. I believe that I chose the wrong setup information on the first pass through setup. Once that was changed, it worked like a charm. I think I heard another buyer complain about this but I think it is only an installation error and not a defect in the scanner. Several weeks later I moved the scanner to another computer and it would not power up. I swapped the power adapter with the old scanner and discovered that it the adapter was bad. I called Microtek and they were very helpful and immediately sent out a new one that arrived several days later. Bottom line....I like it a lot and it has a document feeder that beats the socks off any other in the office, especially the HP's | 4 | Today |
