I did notice that the iPod battery was being consumed at what looked to be an alarming rate, but when the pictures were downloaded, and I turned off the iPod, the battery seemed to bounce back. Not once did I ever have the battery die on me during a download, and I downloaded 300+ high resolution pictures on multiple occasions. I was thankful to have it as I didn't want to take my laptop with me. I always recharged the iPod in the evening after getting back to the hotel. Perhaps it's camera dependent. I do know that my Olympus camera takes about twice as long to download as my Canon when downloading to the computer. I'm sure that would have an effect on an iPod battery. 5 Today Unreliable I bought this product for a trip. Although it worked when I tried it at home, the first time I tried to use it on my trip it failed after downloading half the pictures from my camera. It then mucked up the ipod, nothing worked until I reconnected the ipod to my computer when I returned home. Basically, I found this to be a very unreliable product and a waste of money. I should have bought extra memory cards for the camera, instead of on this worthless product. 1 Today Good idea, until it eats your memory card I went to Australia with this thing, and found it very useful. Transferring photos was pretty easy, and it allowed me to take thousands of pictures over those three weeks. There are many disadvantages though, some of them very serious! There are a few "rules" that aren't really explained in the manual. And if you don't follow these "rules" you could easily lose all of your photos (and you could probably lose them even if you're careful!) Cons: 1. You have to make sure your ipod is pretty well charged if you're uploading a lot of photos. I could get by just fine with about 200-300 photos at a time taken with a 6MP camera at high jpeg setting. Any more than that, and your ipod will die first and then who knows, it might mess something serious up! I had a 2GB hitachi microdrive for my slr, and trying to transfer a full 2 GB is impossible. RULE #1: Upload as much as possible. 2. If you don't seem to follow a very strict protocol of plugging your ipod in first then turning on your camera at the prompt, you seem to risk your ipod freezing. RULE #2: Be very careful in how you hook up your ipod and camera. I recommend hooking everything together, turning on the ipod, actually going to the "import photos" option, and then turning on the camera. Definitely do not unplug or turn anything off during the import! 3. Be prepared for a disaster! Do not trust this thing completely. This thing actually somehow CORRUPTED my microdrive and destroyed all the photos on it during one of the uploads (fortunately there were only about 100). Be prepared with a second memory card. RULE #3: Don't expect too much. Pros: Ok, so the ONLY reason why I gave it 2 stars is that I used it nonstop for about 3 weeks and transferred close to 2,000 photos with it. It was definitely worth it, although I really wish it hadn't destroyed my memory card. Transferring the photos is very easy, but can take an hour or so. This seems to be a slightly unstable system that has the capability of permanently damaging either your ipod or camera's memory. Maybe if you follow the "technique" I discussed, it won't happen to you, I'm not really sure. Just be aware that there is a risk! 2 Today Very useful device to store your pictures If you own an iPod video and a digital camera, then you probably want to consider the iPod Camera Connector to store your pictures during your trips. I have a NIkon D200 and a newer video ipod. The camera connector works perfectly. I use both a 1GB & a 2GB Lexar card. Transfered the 1GB card in about 30 minutes... this may seem long but not much more than compared to transfer to a G4 or G5. I was going to get the Epson P3000 but decided to try the iPod connector first. The P3000 would be great, however I only occasionally would use it and for those times the Apple connector will work great. I have 2 batteries for the Nikon so it's easy enough to charge the night before. It did not drain it so bad that I couldn't make it through the day. The iPod I had charged ahead of time and it was also not a problem. I'm semi-professional as far as my photography... professional should by the Epson P3000 if your out shooting a lot of GB's... other wise this is great for the few times a year I may need to clear a card several times a day. Very compact so it is easy to carry with the ipod & camera. If you have an iPod & digital camera you should have one of these in case you ever need to back up your photos. 5 Today Good for the very few Sucks iPod battery power like nobody's business. Only works with a very small list of cameras (definitely not my Canon Digital Rebel XTi (400D). Doesn't work with any USB flash card reader I can find, even though they advertise it as a feature. Transfer speeds are impractically slow, so if you have a big card, give up trying to transfer it before you lose battery. If you don't take a ton of pictures, and your camera is supported, this item might work for you. Otherwise, forget it. 1 Today I'm an Apple fanboy ... but I don't recommend this product. I own a lot of Apple products but this is one that totally fell below expectations. I picked this product up on vacation in Las Vegas to store my pictures and thought it was an awesome idea. Unfortunately, it did not work well with my Panasonic Lumix camera. It would either run my 30GB iPod out of batteries or wouldn't transfer all the pictures. As mentioned, it's incredible slow too. On my recent trip to Italy, I brought a number of high capacity SD cards which are very low in price these days. 2 Today Does the job Although I think it might be a little expensive for what it is, I'm still happy. Works perfect with my Nikon D40. I have found that you need to connect the camera via USB cord. It doesn't work with a card reader like I thought it might. No big deal.
