Great for textures, and zBrush work
I'm a student at the AI right now and do a lot of texture work in Photoshop for my 3d models, and started using the wacom for zBrush 3(a 3d modeling/painting tool) just recently. My first few hiccups made me a little weary. I plugged in the tablet after installing the drivers and the pressure tip didn't work, and neither did the eraser tip(worked like any other mouse pointer). I called up Wacom tech support and after a very short hold got in touch with a man who sounded like one of my LANing buddies. He was very laid back and after explaining the problem troubleshot it and had me up and running very quickly. By far the best customer service I have ever dealt with(and I give tech support myself!) So for the tablet itself, I've used a variety of sizes, from the smallest, to their largest and I have to say the 6x8 is perfect for me. It easily fits into a backpack or briefcase with little problem, and the top buttons are vastly more efficient to the side buttons on other versions(which you constantly hit by accident). It's just a very great product. I have no negative things to say about it.

A Tool Can Change Your Life
I've had this for months now, and I use it every single day. It completely changed my life as an artist. I now work almost exclusively in Photoshop and love it! It's a little bit like how I thought an Etch-a-Sketch should be when I was a kid. Seriously, though, there's a world of difference between trying to use a graphics program with a mouse and the tablet, even for non-drawing tools. And it's not just for art. The tablet makes surfing the web much faster as well because you can move the pen across the tablet as you would your finger across the monitor, then tap instead of click. It's much more intuitive that way. This thing really did change my life. As much as the advent of the Internet did. I was creatively blocked for years and now I draw every day.

Wonderful! What an upgrade in Art!
This product is amazing. I upgraded from the 4x5 to this 6x8 and I'm amazed at the difference. I'm finding myself enjoying it so much. My art has improved so much since I have been able to use the Tablet in Photoshop. This product allows you to draw pretty much like you would on a piece of paper. It does take some time to adjust to, but once you have it's well worth it. I am watching as my skill increases every week. Unlike older tablets, you can use pen pressure, as well as the two buttons on the pen for right click and double click... you can pretty much set it to what you want. There is an eraser end as well. I love this Tablet!

Essential
I would have a real rough time doing what I need to do (illustrate, animate) with just a mouse. It works great, I can't think of how it could work better. I considered the larger size, but that would require a lot more arm-moving...and I'm too darn lazy for that.

Lives up to its name
I purchased this based on researching the leading tablets. This tablet consistently received the highest ratings and praise. Amazons price was also the best I found. Purchased this for my son who has varified its claim to fame. Graphire still lives up to its reputation.

Good, but intuos is better
I'm an amateur photographer and I purchased this product when I was working on my first photo show and I was under pressure to finish everything on time. After you try a pen tablet, you realize how clunky of a tool the mouse is when it comes to precision masking, and you can never go back. I purchased the Graphire 6x8 thiking that the 4x6 would be a bit cramped. As it turned out, the 6x8 was actually too large for my taste (large strokes are needed for drawing and selecting, which is just not my style). The next day I found the Intous 4x6 at a local store for just a fraction more and bought it. The difference in feel is tremendous, using the Intuos is much more like using pen and paper, while the Graphire still feels plasticky by comparison. Nevertheless, the Graphire is a good tool, and if you're on a budget, go for it. If money is no object, get the Intuos. In functionality they're comparable. The Graphire comes with a slightly better software bundle, while the Intuos has a much better feel, which makes a big difference IMHO. Intuos also has more customizable functions, which I have not used so far. You should carefully consider the size issue as well(it does matter), as both a big tablet and a small tablet can prove to be inconvenient if they don't fit your drawing/work style.

Awesome tool!
Bought it partly to help with cronic neck problems at the computer! Wow! Huge difference! Not to mention it is so cool, easy to use, versital.

Great item
I was afraid it wouldn't work on my computer since I don't have the most state-of-the-art machine and this is kind of a new product, but this tablet worked instantly and perfectly right when I installed it. The product design is great. I like the size of the tablet and it looks good. The only awkward thing I found is the buttons on the pen, they are kind of awkward to press compared to the Intuos pen, but it's minor. This is a wonderful product worth the price I paid.

excellent
As an artist, I use this tablet a lot. the pressure sensitivity is great, and the size of the tablet is just big enough to comfortably draw in, without becoming cumbersome. I use it almost everyday, for animation projects and regular digital illustrations. it's a little hard to get used to at first, because there is no friction like when you draw with a regular pencil on paper, but though your first drawings may be a little wobbly, about an hour of practice on the thing should have you up and going. try adjusting the tracking speed on your computer at first, it makes it easier when you're first practicing with the pen. i use it with my laptop, too, so if you get sick of using the trackpad, the pen is a very intuitive substitute when browsing the web or what-have-you. five stars for being everything i expected, and well worth the seemingly high price.

Graphire 6x8-- An Artist's review
I've got to say, I don't know how I've done (as an artist) without a tablet for so long. I did a bit of research before purchasing this tablet last month. I've seen other artists use these Wacom tablets as naturally as put their hands on the keyboard. With good reason, it works. And, it works well. After 4 weeks, I'm still impressive with how the pen works with the tablet. To use the pen, it's not always necessary to actually touch the glass. The sensor is very sensitive and you see the cursor appear in an area of the screen where the pen hovers. I'm using the Graphire4 (the "consumer version") of Wacom's two divisions. An acquaintance, also an artist, uses their "professional version," The Intuos3. I'm using it to help clean up sketches and make logos on Photoshop Elements. I've also used it to open and close other programs on my laptop's desktop interface. Perfect, in fact, I don't actually need the mouse-- it's been sitting under my bed. A brief word about Wacom. Before, I bought this from Amazon, I didn't want to buy it then Wacom release another version. It has been 2 years, 2005, since Wacom release the current versions of their tablets, the Graphire4 and the Intuos3. I called them to find out when was a new release and they responded that because of "confidentiality" they could disclose that information. Well, what happens if I buy a tablet today and in the next few weeks you release new versions? They responded that you have 4 weeks to return it for a refund. My four-weeks ended today. But, this works so well with my MacBook Pro and the silver is identical to my aluminum laptop. Also, they offer 3 free softwares with this tablet. The most important being the Photoshop Elements 3. PE3! What a joke. Photoshop Elements 5 for PC and 4 for Mac are already out of date. I'm running PE5 on a virtual PC on my Mac and the Graphire is exceptional. I got a good deal on it here at Amazon, but I really wanted the 6x11 Intuos, but I'll wait until the new wireless version comes out. Is it worth the investment? Yes, for anyone not working full-time as a graphic artist.
