Arena Football is THE best game if you like fast paced, hard hitting football. It is almost impossible to not get a jack-up hit on somebody. The passing is quick and fast, too. Granted, the graphics are a little iffy, and if you play Madden or NCAA Football all the time, it'll take some time to get used to the controls and gameplay, but once you learn the game, I'm sure that this game will be a hit. | 5 | Today | Can't wait for future additions
If you are a fan of Arena Football or just like football video games, this is at least a must try, if not must own. I only have a couple of minor complaints. First, there is not commentary during the games. There's not much excuse for this and it makes the game seem just a bit amateurish (I remember Joe Montana Sports Talk Football on the Sega Genesis.) On the other hand, commentary just adds flavor and I usually turn the sound low and play my own music anyway.
Second, the franchise and create-a-team modes are kind of weak. This is kind of expected in such a new franchise (not to mention the fact that it was the first AFL game).
I look at this game as a great beginning. I'm assuming that EA didn't want to invest too much time and money into a new game w/o testing the market. This game is always sold out and a new version is due out in Feb., 2007, so I know we can expect to see more.
I can't wait for the day that I stick in my AFL on PS3 and hear Mike & Mike calling the game!

Unlike what many people think, this is a pretty good game and I'd say it's a solid review for an Arena Football game. However, as the title suggests, it isn't quite great. I put 5 stars for fun because the gameplay is pretty good overall; the reason that it only has 4 stars is because it fails mainly in presentation.
Gameplay wise, this is exactly like Arena Football. It is very pass-heavy and it has an arcade feel to it that I expected. On the downside, the run is not only weak, it's practically useless. On defense unless you are good with cornerbacks you are pretty much a spectator, but at least it gives you practice at a position most people don't control themselves on a football game.
As mentioned earlier, the game fails in its presentation. The first thing that is annoying is the fact that there's no commentary. Seriously, all there is as far as sound is the pretty weak sounds of the crowd, repetitive rock guitar, and the PA announcer. Some color commentary that is in EVERY sports game would make the game more lively. Also, the crowd animation is kinda blah, not something that bothewrs me too much but when there's not enough ear candy, give me something to look at.
The create-a-team is pretty weak as well. In the AFL, teams have very modern looking uniforms as compared to the NFL where more teams have more classic style uniforms. In the create a team, the number options and jersey options are exactly the same as in Madden, meaning the chance to have one of those modern or futuristic style uniforms is pretty limited; the only place you can make it look more modern is in colors and the logo selection is pretty cool.
So, to wrap up the game has some gameplay that is pretty fun and there are things you may need to adjust to as far as AFL rules, but its fun to play. The only problem is that the games themselves are kinda bland and the graphics could be better. I would say that it's worth the $20 price tag and I want to say that I hope EA keeps this francise going because it has a lot of potential if it just fixes a few things. | 3 | Today | Outstanding Game

This game is for people who like games that go very quickly. I also liked the crushing hits you can deliver to players. I've played this game hours on end. This was a great game idea for all people. (Unless you like slow games). I'd buy this for sure if I were you because it pulls out the thrills in Arena Football. I rented this game at a Movie Gallery and I have to tell you, this is one of the surprise games of the year in my opinion. I expected this game to be just a normal fan-based game, but I was wrong. I saw a preview of the game on Madden NFL 06 last August (when I rented it), I wanted to try it for the heck of it. On that note, I am not an AFL fan. The first thing I noticed was the soundtrack. It was pretty good, featuring groups such as Avenged Sevenfold and Korn. You can listen to your favorite songs in the menu and during a game (which you can't do in Madden). Secondly, even though the field's only 50 yards (1/2 the size of an NFL field), the gameplay is still as good. Third, there is more attitude than Madden 06. The attitude in this game can be compared to Blitz: The League and easily win. Not only that, it has plenty of humor for those needing a laugh. There's a few more, but I don't want to spoil them. The cons are what give this a 4-star rating. First, there is no Tournament, Create-A-Fan, Create-A-Playbook, or Stadium Creator in Create-A-Team. Second, the Create-A-Team isn't all that good. Third, the controls can be harder to master because of the fact that the field is only 50 yards.

If you're really into NCAA, and Madden and are used to quality football games like that, then stay away from this game. Also if you have a good knowledge of those games and like the challenging nature of those games, don't get this game. If you are a child or have a child, this game would be fun for them to learn a little bit about football. It is a good game to rent and mess around with, but that's about it. If you are a big football fan and are very tempted to purchase this game, just keep playing on your dynasty mode. | 2 | Today | Arena football 2006
