Rowenta rules
This is the best iron I have ever owned. Even my husband irons his own shirts. Ironing is still a chore, but it's pleasurable now.

A great product
I purchased this product when mine went out a couple of weeks ago. I plugged it in and got started, and to be totally honest I could not be more pleased. I got it at Kohls for 30 % off for an extra bonus.

DON'T BUY (made in China)
Purchased this iron after I dropped my wife's old Rowenta and broke the handle. It constantly leaves brown spots on the steam setting. Doesn't matter what kind of water is used, or ANYTHING else their web site says. Took it apart, cleaned the "innerds", etc. STILL leaves nasty brown water spots on the clothes. Don't even think about using the "shot of steam" setting. Then I happen to notice that this particular iron was made in China. Yes, China, not Germany. Have a good friend who has a Phd in materials engineering and he stated that it is the "cheap" metal used in the water tank. It reacts to the water and leaves spots. AND I DON'T CARE WHAT KIND OF WATER YOU USE. Nothing you could do about it, except to use it as a dry iron he said. Have checked other Rowenta models and found the "made in Germany" decal on them, but this particular model that I got had "made in China". A nice "made in China" decal was stamped on the bottom. Junk.Never thought that this fine company would prositute its name for the junk produced in China, but it did. I threw it away after my wife ruined an expensive blouse. BEWARE, and don't say you were not warned if you purchase one.

Not worth the money.
I was very disappointed with this iron. After using it for only 6 months, it now decides when it wants to shut off (even while I'm using it) and no amount of shaking will turn it back on. Water doesn't just leak out of the iron, it floods and leaves stains on whatever I'm ironing. This happens no matter whether it's full or nearly empty. Sure wish I still had the receipt.

Worst iron I have ever had!
This is the second Rowenta iron that has disappointed me. Within a year I bought two and both don't steam properly. I fill the iron with water, plug it in and the light goes one. It heats for a while and then turns off suddenly and leaks on my garment. No steam comes out for proper ironing. Either I bought a defective one or this is the inherent pattern of the iron. I will not buy one again.

The delivery and quality of the product is great. Although I have only briefly used it, the heating quality and smooth glide on clothing is great.

UNRELIABLE PRODUCT - STAY AWAY
I have the same problem with the auto-shutoff as several other reviewers on amazon and elsewhere. Bought this in Aug'07. The autoshutoff started kicking in even when the iron was in use. Suddenly during use, iron shuts off and red light begins to blink. Only way to restart - switch on and off OR bang it down hard sideways on the ironing board ("gentle sideways shaking" recommended by the manual doesn't cut it). Then 15-20 seconds later - same problem. Returned to sears and go a replacement in Sept'07. Autoshutoff broke again again in May'08. Out of 90 days return/replace policy - so Sears won't return OR replace. Only option to send to Rowenta service center prepaid and wait for 2-3 weeks for it to come back. Better toss and buy a different brand. WITH extended warranty this time. Oh well... No more Rowenta EVER.

great iron
This is a great iron, I have had it for awhile, you won't be disappointed, when I go to iron I don't have to use starch anymore.

Worst Iron I have EVER owned!!!
I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to throw this iron out the window! I have had the same problem with the auto-off feature as another reviewer. To get the iron to turn on you have to tilt the iron back and forth from laying flat to standing up. Then once it is on the auto-off function typically kicks in 30 seconds later and the iron turns off. I then have to go through the same process again of tilting the iron. This goes on for a while and then I find myself shaking the heck out of the iron trying to get it to turn back on. At this point water from the iron has leaked all over the shirt I am trying to iron. So now I have a wet wrinkled shirt and I am so angry I could throw the iron out the window. I HATE THIS IRON!!!!

Effective is Defective
I bought the Effective model from a large department store several months ago. Its auto-off feature does not function properly. After power up, the iron heats up. Then it soon goes into its auto-off mode. It does not help to change its position from vertical to horizontal or horizontal to vertical. The iron never gets out of the auto-off mode. I've power cycled in desperation to get the iron back to its heating cycle, but then soon it goes into its auto-off mode. (I even tried moving the power cord as one reviewer suggested.) I have read the detailed description of how it's supposed to work, and I tried many experiments to see if I can prevent the iron from going into its auto-off mode or get it out of the auto-off mode. I've tried calling the customer service several times, but due to the impossibly long wait, I've never been able to talk to anyone. I also tried the Rowenta website to see if I can have this problem diagnosed via e-mail, but there is no such customer service either. I suspect its timer is defective or its motion sensor is faulty. If anybody had the same problem, I would appreciate if you can share what you did about it. Meanwhile, I entertain fantasies about throwing the iron through a large glass wall at the Rowenta headquarter office. It's a good thing that Rowenta US office is on the east coast.
