Completely satisfied. 5 Today Good Stereo This stereo is good for the money. It has great sound and also the cabinet looks very nice while being compact. The 3 disc changer seems to be a bit fragile but otherwise works wonderfully. I would just be careful with it. 4 Today Good for the price I paid about $150 for this unit and I am very satisfied with its performance. I think the sound is awesome, much better than my $400 Bose. My classical CDs sound great and the 320 Watts can shake the windows without any discernable distortion. The FM tuner is a little weak. It is unfortunate that SONY chose the totally stupid antenna connection they use. I have a couple weak FM stations I like that I can only get on my other systems with an amplified FM antenna. I may try a little surgery to use one on this system. That said, a lot of the other systems I looked at had no external antenna connection at all. Fortunately, living near Washington, DC I have a lot of strong stations to choose from. As mentioned by a couple other observers, the speaker leads are seriously short. Unless you put everything close together you will have to add extensions, as I did. Be careful how you connect the speakers. The manual (Actually a big sheet of paper with very small print) shows that you connect the positive and negative leads one way for the right speakers and reversed for the left ones. I can't believe this is correct. The unit cannot be placed with its back close to a wall. There is a fan that protrudes about an inch, and you have to allow a couple more inches to enable it to vent. Between the short speaker leads and the rear clearance issue, positioning the unit can be tough. The basic functions are pretty easy to use, but the manual is a joke, and not everything you can do with the remote is intuitive. It actually does a great deal but you have to work at it. I would not expect a graphic equalizer at this price (the presets are OK) but I would have liked to see a balance control. The CD Changer is a little noisy, and while it would be nice to be able to load more than three discs, the ability to play MP3 format makes up for it. It is very nice to be able to change one disc while another is playing. I like having the input plug for my MP3 player on the front where it is handy. In the end, for my purposes the sound rules, and with this system you can sit back and enjoy. 4 Today awesome stereo! My son is totally thrilled with it....I think he called it "sick" which meant something totally different to me, but he insisted I take his picture with it....a very nice choice to buy this product! 5 Today Great Buy Purchased this unit so that I can listen to music while working in my garage. I felt is was a great buy. It's compact, sound is good, price is good & it works for me. The only thing I don't like is that you can't control the base & treble because it's all preset. 4 Today Light stereo, great for price Not quite as powerful as I was hoping for, but the sound is alright and in a small room it'll do fine. Careful, there is no plug-in at the back, so you can only connect MP3 or auxiliary stuff through the little front jack. Otherwise it's easy to use and pretty cool-looking... ideal for quiet listening, lame if you host a big party and need loud stuff. 4 Today Quality system I don't know much about audio, nor do I have a good basis for comparison. But FWIW, the system works fine and sounds good. 4 Today Sony Mini Shelf System We were very pleased with the system. It arrived on time (it was a present) and we found it easy to use and good value for the price. 5 Today Muddy Sound Update - This item takes the dubious honor of the "Worst" product I've reviewed for 2006! Early every year I plan to give a "best" and "worst" rating to products I've reviewed the previous year. I never reveiw a product unless I've used it a great deal myself and am intimately familiar with it. ========================= You will be surprised how crummy this sounds compared to the Panasonics that cost about the same. This is my main problem - the sound quality sucks compared to the competition out there. 1 - The speakers are lightweight and shoddily built. They sound muddy and the deep bass from them is nothing to write home about. They are fairly light weight - meaning very small magnets in them. These are 3 way speakers - for really good sound on the cheap - speakers need to be 2 way! 2 - The sound input consists of a headphone type jack in FRONT. Not even standard phono inputs at the back. 3 - Its advertised as 320 watts - which is meaningless - since the speakers suck. What good is a high power amp with crappy speakers. And in case you know some audio - 320 watts is only twice as loud as 32 watts (log relationship). For some reason, this is not even half as loud as my 100 W receiver! 4 - No user adjustable equalizer, only presets possible 5 - Cannot connect a different pair of speakers to upgrade because of the "biamping" type of connections. 6 - The receiver sucks - even my Sandisk flash player seems to have a better FM radio. I concur with the other reviewer - Death to Sony! Shame on them for taking consumers for a ride.
