| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Great Multifunction Laser After reading reviews I was concerned about the noise this machine could make; however, after installing and using the machine, it is no louder than any other laser we've had in our office (2 brothers and an HP). Lasers are just louder on warmup. The print quality is excellent. The suite software works great and is very helpful. Mac's are not supported other than a driver. If I were PC only, I would not hesitate to purchase this machine again. After 6 months of printing, the machine works as good as new, I haven't noticed any extreme wear on the opc belt (like with the Brothers), in fact the belt looks like new. I expect good longevity from this machine. | 4 | Today | Certainly a great deal for the money. I got this for $375 (delivered) though Amazon's warehouse deals. The box arrived in horrible shape but the printer miraculously survived. The damage to the box was worse than Fed Ex could have done in one shipment so I suppose it was discounted due to the box damage. In any case the printer was in good shape, which speaks well of the durability of the printer itself. The set up and installation on Windows XP was easy. No problems with the drivers or installation for both the USB and the network connection. Print quality is very good, we could read a two point font! It's a bit noisy (bangs and clunks) as it warms up for the first page, but, not as bad as I expected based on some of the reviews. Subsequent pages print quickly and quietly. I've had a couple of minor paper feeding issues, but nothing too bad. Certainly a great deal for the money.
| 4 | Today | Underwhelmed I needed a multi-function device for my small business. After some research, I settled on Ricoh based on some of the reviews here and else where. The setup as a stand-alone system was easy and it took less than 20 minutes. It does all the things as advertised, however, there are some not discussed anywhere:
1. It weighs about 70 lbs. In other words, it's very heavy.
2. It consumes a lot of power. When this is on, my lights flicker!
3. It makes too much noise...it makes clunky noises when powering up and when it prints.
4. Color is not as vivid as others, such as Samsung's CLX-3160FN
5. For some reason, when I'm printing labels, the it creates smudges and the image is not complete on the bottom. The same image on the same labels in Samsung comes out fine.
All other function works, but this Ricoh model just doesn't impress me at all. | 2 | Today | Extremely LOUD machine I purchased this for a small office in 09/06 during a sale at Staples. We set it up, and started to print some sample documents. WOW, was it loud. It sounded like the ink cartridges were being hit with a hammer against the front cover! I contacted Ricoh, assuming this was some type of defect or damage to this new machine. They wrote me back, stating in writing that this was normal and we could expect this level of noise. I could not believe they admitted this, in writing. There is no way you can talk on the phone if this is anywhere near you. It does the job and prints nice copies, but unless you can put it in a corner that is far, far away, this is not the machine for you. | 1 | Today | heads up mac users!! the mac support from ricoh and their affiliates (Lanier AC031cn & Gestetner SP C210SF) is essentially nil. ricoh supplies a basic printer driver. Currently, the following features DO NOT work on a mac: 1) full color twain-compliant scanning 2) copy to file, email or ocr 3) scan to file, email or ocr. 4) postscript
if you like this machine, i would strongly suggest you look at the brother mfc-9420cn. brother industries fully supports and offer all features for the mac. In addition, they have postscript 3 emulation drivers. wish i knew this before i made my purchase.
Here's the real kicker, the hardware is essentially the same, ricoh and it's affiliates choose not to support or develop the features, drivers and software for the macintosh platform.
If you're a mac person and you only want to print, copy and fax, this is a good choice. However, if you would like to utilize all features, I'd choose to look elsewhere. Also, take a look at hp's solid multifunction printers (they are just a bit slower). | 3 | Today |
