| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Great Sound!...If you can get around the interference. On display my local Target, these speakers sounded too good to be true for only fifty bucks. Beautiful high-quality sound, a not-to-deep bass from the low-powered subwoofer, and the 'SFX' button (simulates surround sound) just makes these things shine.
What really takes the luster off these otherwise brilliant speakers is the lack of electronic interference shielding. Any closer than three feet from my wireless g router and they emit an annoying hiss/groan that is like nails on a chalkboard. Need to make a cell phone call? You better RUN from these mothers or you're getting a real earful with a sound akin to the shriek of a dying animal.
Other than that, these things are great. Just be warned. | 3 | Today | Altec Lansing did it again!!! Phenomenal speakers for the price! If you want an amazing sound for a little price, don't look anywhere else. I'm a "quality over quantity" kind of person, so if you want booming sound, look elsewhere. If you want amazing sound and don't want to disrupt your neighbors, you'll love these speakers!
I've been a musician for 15 years, and appreciate quality speakers. I've also recommended a 400w surround sound system ($200) from altec lansing, for a friend, and he couldn't have been more grateful. I'll always back Altec Lansing, and no, I'm not a spokesperson, just a die hard fan. They just continue to blow me away.
BUY THEM.. best value out there! | 5 | Today | Cheap but Expensive If you need speakers for you laptop or desktop, you may want to check a small shelf system. After all, these are not portable. Spend a little more money, but get what you want, a solution, not a problem. The interference in these speakers is really annoying, and I don't use my cell or any other devises... I am returning these today. | 1 | Today | Good Speakers - Bad Sub I was looking for speakers for my mp3 player and pc. I was only looking to spend around 50 bucks and get some pretty good speakers. I came across these speakers online and saw some good reviews. I found it at target later in the week for 50 bucks after tax. The speakers produced a pretty crisp sound and the subwoofer had some bass for a while. After a year of having this though, the subwoofer just stopped working. The speakers still work and the sound isn't bad. But without the sub, these speakers produce a sound that any generic computer speakers can produce or pc speakers that you can buy for 20 bucks at wal-mart. If you are looking for a great sound, you get what you pay for, I guess. I think I am going to shell out close to 100 on my next pair and get some better quality speakers because these aren't that great. | 2 | Today | Poor Manufacturing This product was defective out of the box. The left speaker wasnt working.
This is my second Altec Lansing speaker, I have to agree that they are good speakers with very good sound, as long as they work, my other system lost one speaker after 4 months.
All in all there seem to be quality/manufacturing issues.
My friend has the same issue, they stopped working 7 months into the purchase, and Altec Lansing would take replacements, but shipping has to borne out by yourself, this some times makes buying a new set more reasonable.
I have burnt my hands twice and would advice caution, with Altec Lansing | 1 | Today | Audio System with a Hiss Overall not a bad product with decent amplification and good base sound. The main problem I have with it is an annoying hissing sound which cannot be avoided. Depending on where you place the speakers, the hissing sound can be minor or absolutely annoying. I am considering purchasing something else because I prefer my speakers to be silent unless something is being played on them. | 3 | Today | great sound but way too much interference These speakers sound great, but there is just too much interference from my cell phone (I have tmobile which is GSM) and my wireless router, so I had to take them back. | 3 | Today | Stay away if you use wireless networking I've had these speakers for about a year. The sound from them is actually fairly good, but if you will have them anywhere near a computer with wireless networking, I would strongly suggest you stay away from them. Any time there's any network activity on my wireless card, the speakers crackle horrendously. I would only recommend these if you use a wired internet connection on the computer you connect the speakers to; they're completely useless if you have a WiFi connection. | 2 | Today | altec 2.1 speaker system This has been the best $40 I've spent all year. I spend a minimum of 10 hours a day at work so why not have decent speakers to listen to. I read the reviews of the Altec Lansing VS2321 speakers online, and am happy to report the good reviews were true. I've listened to higher priced JBL / bose etc. and these sound as good or better. | 5 | Today | About wifi interference I just got the Altec Lansing speakers and they sound just fine. I am glad I saved money and got decent speakers for a decent price. As for the wifi "interference", yes, it exists if my router is within about 5 feet of the set. But it disappears completely if I just slide it a couple of feet farther away. No problem with that. I am glad this forum exists, since if I didn't know what was making the noise, I might have sent the speakers back as defective. As it is, I am quite happy. | 4 | Today |
