Decent but not great
It works well and the battery life is pretty awesome. The downfall is it does not recognize cards over 2GB. No where on the packaging or documentation does it say that. I ended up having to return mine because it would not read my 8gb CF card or my 4GB SD card. When I called tech support they said "Yes, we know its a problem but we have no plans to fix it. Yes we know we should put that on the box but the majority of customers do not have large cards so it is not a real issue."

DON'T BUY SMARTDISK PRODUCTS
Bought the FlashTrax Media Player. After a power outage the hard drive was fine, but the main computer would not recognize the drive. We were only three months over the one year warranty, and even though we would pay for the repair they said they wouldn't touch it after it was out of warranty. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Poor attention was given to detailed emails, had to keep repeating the same thing over and over. Their final response...."But it is the way that we have everything set up. We can not change things because you want us to. It would not be fair to every other customer who fellows the rules and saves their paper work. Good luck." Hello? I had the paperwork.

DO NOT BUY THIS!
I did not heed the warnings that others posted about this product. After using it for about two weeks, it mysteriously broke (while I was in Brazil photographing) and I could no longer load photos from my cards onto it or check to see if the cards I had loaded onto it were even still there. Other reviews warned of this same thing happening, but I did not heed them and paid the price. If you value your digital photos, this is not the photo storage for you. And note that the warranty will only repair or replace this faulty product--no money back.

Shuts off during downloading of a 2GB CompactFlash card!
The high expectations for this portable unit quickly died this weekend during the downloading of 146 RAW images from a 2 GB SanDisk CompactFlash card. Turning the unit back on showed the battery bar to be full and the memory capacity was still at the original 39 GB even though my camera indicated there was 1.0 GB of photos on the Compact Flash card. At that point, I had no idea how many images were downloaded. Since the arithmetic didn't add up, this was enough evidence for me to not rely on this unit any further. Luckily, I had another 2GB card in my active second camera that successfully carried the photo shoot of the 80th birthday dinner party to the end. It was a bit of hassle having to switch the card from one camera into the other and vice versa. You see, I was shooting with 2 different zoom lenses. Basically, the unit needs to be plugged into an AC power source for it to completely download a full 2 GB flash card. Very inconvenient! Later that evening, I was able to determine on the PC that only 23 out of the 146 images were downloaded! It was easy to delete these images from the units HDD by simply selecting the 23 images and clicking on Delete in My Computer. No reformatting was required and the unit continued to work. To conclude: (a) Buy more 2 GB flash cards. They have dropped in price by $100 over the last couple of years, and (b) Ensure there is AC power at the photo shoot if you intend on buying this piece of work.

I like it! Saves me from lugging around a laptop.
This is a very simple unit. I only use SD and Memory Stick so I can't say anything for the other 5 formats. In all cases it works fine. It even charges easily from USB. I like the standard mini USB connection because I can find them everywhere. It was purchased to take on cruises and vacations but I use it for every day stuff like real estate photos and tech support photos. Simple and easy to use. I've owned it for over 6 months now and not a single hickup. I use it some on Ubuntu Linux, but mostly on Windows 2000 and XP.

pleased
I am very pleased with this product.. no real bells and whistles ... one touch operation..necessary info on display.. I did need to contact support for a file format utility which they quickly downloaded.. the support contact is difficult to find, so here it is (1-203-453-7330)....it does everything I want it to do and then some without a lot of fidilling around....

Dont waste your money...
This sounded too good to be true and BAM! It is. We used it (for a grand total of 3 times) to dump our cards at a wedding. So far the prongs have bent 2x and the harddrive needed to be reformatted once. And since this thing actaully failed at a wedding - wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Better off buying more cards.

Stay away from this product-Not even a star!
This sounds like a good product, but it is not and the company is bad about their customer service. Used the photobank to store all my racing photos while covering a NASCAR race, worked well. Downloaded the images right there and kept on shooting. Went home to download to the computer, everything went fine. Only when I was finished downloading to the CPU the thing still said there were images on the HD. So I went into the HD through My computer and cleared them off, thinking that would clear it off. Nope, it still said there were images there. Went a step further and formated the thing. Did that fix it. Nope, all it did was remove if from this earth. DOS doesn't even see it. The only way it is seen by the computer is if the hard cover is taken off and then DOS will read it. But it will not fix it back to the FAT32 format. There is a driver for it on their website but it is for the card reader side of it not the HD.Bad product, Buyer be ware....
