The main reason I purchased this printer was because of its batch feed capabilities for scannin and faxing. The feature works well but the software interface is not the best.
The ink cartridges need replacing alot faster then any of the previous HPs that I have owned.
Print quality is fine.

Everything about this printer is wonderful. It's handsome on my desk and the print quality is outstanding. Ink use is about average, as is the scanning software. My problem with it is I'm using Leopard 10.5.2 on a Mac, and I cannot fax from a file on my computer as I used to do. Canon has confirmed that it's a problem with the printer driver supplied by Apple and there is no workaround, except printing the file and faxing it direct from the printer. Duh, isn't the why we want to fax, to save paper? Whatever... i don't need to do that very often and with so little else to complain about this printer, i would recommend it with that caveat. | 4 | Today | Best value all in one for the home office
I'm just really impressed with this unit for the price. The sheet feeder is great - with the one limitation that it doesn't automatically scan two sided originals. Duplex printing or copying works well - I wasn't finding the quality reduction mentioned in other reviews very noticeable (but your mileage may vary).
Scanning quality looks very good to me. It's just a very good combination of features and quality for the price.
It is large so check out the dimensions and measure your spot. Has a lot of options so it can take a little while to figure out all the bells and whistles. | 5 | Today | Major Ink Cartridge Issue
I purchased this the Canon PIXMA mp530 in December of 2007. The reviews were positive and I've known people with Canon printers who were happy with them. I have not used the fax feature, but have been using the print, copy, and scanning features. About 3 months into using the printer it kept saying that the magenta ink tank was empty, but when checked it was full. For about a month I was able to open up the printer, take the magenta ink tank out and put it back in temporarily solving the problem, but then that stopped working. If any of the ink tanks are empty or the machine thinks it is empty the printer is rendered useless... forget printing even in black only, copying in black, and even scanning. Had I been aware of this problem I would not have purchased this printer and would warn anyone who does to keep plenty of extra ink on hand, because even if the ink tanks are not empty they may malfuction which will put a stop to use of the printing, copying, and scanning functions. I verified that there is no way around this with Cannon, their response when asking about this was "Unfortunately, the MP530 will not print or copy when one of the ink tanks is empty or there is an ink error. Since copying uses the scanner, this also includes the scanning system." If you contact Canon regarding malfunctioning ink tanks they will replace it but it is a hassle. | 2 | Today | Disappointed with print quality and small ink cartridges.
We bought this printer (about 9 months ago) looking for a reasonable quality all-in-one for home use. We mostly used it for email and web page print-outs.
The first problem I experienced was that the photos I printed came out unnaturally red. I contacted Canon, they tutored me on how to select exactly the right paper for the printout I was making (which helped slightly), but the prints still came out red. Finally, the representative told me that the error must lie with my monitor. Well...we never had these problems with our HP (on the same computer and monitor). However, while moving, the movers killed it.
Although we print something minor every other week, it seemed that we needed to replace the ink cartridges quarterly. Then I began to experience a strange ink cartridge error that stated I had more than one yellow ink cartridge within the printer--that's impossible since there is only enough space for each of the CMYK and 2 blacks. I had to pull the cartridge out repeatedly to get it to print--eventually it would not print at all. Additionally, the fax did not work after a short period of time. Also, it prints very slowly.
We finally purchased an HP in an equivalent price range, prints much faster, the documents are much superior in their quality. I would never buy another Canon printer again. Seriously disappointed. | 1 | Today | So far I'm delighted
So far, I'm delighted with this little machine. I hook it up and it's ready to print. I'm still working with the scanning. I don't have a land line, so I haven't tested fax capabilities. But, so far, printing and copying have been fine. Set up was extremely easy. | 5 | Today | There is a defect with the ink cartridges - BEWARE
I've had this printer for about a year, so I have some extended experience with it. It prints and copies well. I have only faxed once, which worked, and I haven't scanned anything yet.
Here's the problem. After a month of owning the printer, we kept getting an error message saying to check the ink cartridge. Well, the cartridge was new, so I contacted Canon support since our printer wouldn't work with the error message. Apparently there's a problem with the chip on some of their cartridges that prevents the printer from being able to read them correctly. Canon shipped us a new cartridge, and that fixed the problem.
I didn't have anymore problems until I recently replaced one of the black ink cartridges. The same problem arose. Apparently Canon hasn't or can't fix the problem with some of their ink cartridges being defective, and you basically either buy a defective one in the store or you don't.
Another MAJOR problem - if there is an error message with the ink cartridges, you cannot scan or fax, even though this doesn't require any ink!
I would have given this printer one star, but the printer does well when it works, but I would not buy this printer again, and I think consumers need to beware of this defect before their purchase. Check your favorite search engine and you'll see this is a well documented problem.
**Update**
Here is part of the latest email that I got from Canon Support:
"The ink tank error message that you are getting is something that does
happen on occasion if the computer chip on the front of the ink tank
goes bad. There are a variety of reasons this can occasionally happen,
from improper storage at a retailer to it being damaged when being
inserted. We typically replace the ink tank first and the vast majority
of the time that will take care of the problem. " | 2 | Today | MP530 Shines
The MP530 lives up to the Canon name. Fast clear printing, plus color copier and quality scans. The photo printing was as good as our local photo booth can produce. Our use of the Fax machine is limited, and I have yet to try it out. I would highly recommend this "all in one" to anyone with the need for a quality multifunction printer at a great price. | 5 | Today | so far so good

The print quality was great but canon made the machine ultra sensitive to the ink sensors. They don't want anyone using non-canon ink but in the process of creating this sensitivity a lot of unnecessary errors come that lock up the entire machine.
