Is not worth all the hype. All I have experienced is a least three crashes a day. I'll probably revert back to my all OS or try a non-windows OS. | 1 | Today | Vista is Working Fine for Me
I have XP running on a bootcamp partition on my MacBook and it is doing just fine. I spend most of my working time in Word, hardly ever using any of the other programs in the Office suite. However, I use the Adobe products Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator a whole bunch. Other than that I play solitaire, watch videos and, of course, use both Explorer and Firefox when I go online. That's about it for me, software wise, and XP handles it all without fail, without crashing and without giving me any headaches.
And I will miss it when I upgrade to Vista, however my machine can handle the upgrade, so I'm giving it a try.
Okay, I like the look and feel of Vista, however it's not as snappy as XP or even System X. I like the AERO bit, quite snazzy and one of the reasons my machine runs a bit slower, I suspect, however I'm loath to turn it off as it's so cool.
Word works fine and that's to be expected. My Adobe software runs well too. The browsers, no problem. I did have to upload a printer driver, but that only took a few minutes and I was good to go.
I've read a lot of reviews by people who are having problems with Vista and I'm getting the SP1 upgrade any day and I'll instal it, but I'm not experiencing the problems others appear to be having. Maybe because it's because I only use four or five programs on my Machine. I don't use iTunes or Windows Media as I still listen to my CDs the old fashioned way and only then if I don't have the phonograph record. | 4 | Today | A necessary Evil
The service I got from Amazon was great. I have an iMac, and the only reason I ordered Vista, is because there are still a few vendors out there that don't make their product for Mac, so Windows is a necessary Evil. I put Windows on my Mac hard drive just to run those few programs. Once the vendors make their product for Mac, then bye bye Windows. | 5 | Today | Don't even think about it.
Since micro soft support is an absolute joke, I'm left with only the option of telling the truth to the world. Hopefully you will tell everyone you know, as well. Micro soft (junk) vista is nasty. It is Very slow, it is very unstable, takes forever to boot up, takes for ever to load programs, and should be considered a Down-grade not an up-grade. DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I had to install it 4 different times to get it to work. And my machine is pretty new with 4 gigs of ram, and dual Athlon CPUs. So don't waste your time or money. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I think I have upgraded every Windows version since 3.0, I just cannot believe that this is the hardest one yet. Background on my system: running a dual-core Intel w/ 4GB of RAM and TONS (over 2TB) of disk space. Background on me: I am a former network admin who now works in my company's programming department writing SQL code all day long. Have tried to load the upgrade on a fresh 500GB drive at least 12 times now. It completely crashed every time but one.
The one time it did not crash Vista booted with a black screen and only showed my mouse pointer. Googled that problem and found that it is very common. Only thing is, no one really seems to know the cause. For some people it is the video card, for others it was a smallish HDD (usually a particular Samsung model). Others..... (you get the idea) Bought a new $250 Nvidia video card, same problem. Tried to re-install 4 times after this problem, back to constant crashing during the upgrade.
Have re-installed XP Pro. Was hoping that Vista did a better job with my RAM management but looks like I will never know now. Have been using Microsoft products since the DOS 3.x days but I have to say that if I were to go buy a new computer right now, I would be leaning towards a Mac (now that it runs UNIX).
I read so many other reviews about how bad the upgrade was and thought that there was no way it could be worse than the older ones. Believe them; it really is as bad as they say. In my opinion, if you really want Vista, buy it on a new PC. DO NOT waste tons of time trying to upgrade from XP like I have. | 1 | Today | MS finally got me to switch to Linux
I have been a Windows user since the early Windows 3.1 days. The last several upgrades, however, have caused more and more headaches. I recently purchased a brand new system, 3Gigs RAM, Dual Quad Core 6600 processors and 1TB (2 500Gig drives) hard drive. This new system came with Vista pre-loaded. You can imagine my surprise and chagrin to find the new supposedly fast computer to be dog slow. Not only was the system slower than molasses in January, it crashed frequently.
I went through and removed all the chuff, hoping to speed things up, but it was still painfully slow. I finally nuked Windows and loaded Ubuntu. Man, I now have a super fast and stable computer. I have since loaded VM Ware and a Windows 2003 server client. Things are better. I haven't yet loaded a VM version of Vista, and I'm not sure if I will. As I keep hearing, Windows Vista Ultimate is a work in progress. Windows XP Professional is much cleaner and faster. I suppose if you have completely updated the maximum computer components (RAM & Video Card) it obviously should run much more smoothly. I have never had so many glitches and general "bugginess" in any previous Microsoft product. I recommend buying Vista if you "really" think you need it along with waiting until the first service pack release. | 3 | Today | Vista blows
Vista is the ultimate rip-off. Does anyone disagree at this point? Who really wants to purchase Vista or Vista compatible products? The one positive effect for the consumer is that its helped drive down hardware prices. Don't laugh, but I think the failure of Vista may be one of the factors bringing on the recession. I mean, we can no longer fool ourselves into believing that we're making progress when computing is getting slower. Right? This product requires installing into a new notebook computer. The install went as planned and as expected. The delivery from Amazon was prompt. I especially liked being able to track it so that I could be home the day/hour it arrived. | 4 | Today | Don't buy it
I tried to upgrade from XP to Vista. I have a very powerful PC - 3GB and dual core processor and sufficient graphic card - but Vista only does about 90% of what it should be doing. Two major problems are after installing vista I can not deinstall firewalls and virus scanners that don't work under vista but that keep screwing up my system. Second big thing, I have two computer screens and the second screen is turned by 90 degrees. Vista does not like that at all. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T INSTALL VISTA. IT IS NOT WORTH THE NIGTHMARE. | 1 | Today |
