| Review | Rating | Last Updated | 2nd one I've had My 1st Zen somehow got fried when I charged it after 2 years of excellent service, so I bought a second. The physical size is perfect for travel, use on the treadmill or walking. The sound quality is fine and since I use it mainly for audio books, the bookmarking feature is a must. | 5 | Today | Loved it, but then it broke I got my zen v plus about a year ago. The first one that i had, worked great for about four weeks, then the screen lost it's color, and i could only see about the middle strip of the screen.
I sent it back to amazon and received a new one. This one lasted for about a year. Then all of a sudden, the cover for the joystick broke. Now, i can't scroll through the screens in one direction. I don't know if that happened to anyone else, but needless to say, even though it broke, it was a great little mp3 player for the price, and it had really good color pic, and video.
Now that this one is broken, i ordered a creative zen, 2 GB. Hopefully, it works for longer than my zen v plus did. | 4 | Today | Sounds great, but save your money This player has been NOTHING but a problem ever since we purchased it as a gift for my daughter, and Creative's customer service leaves a great deal to be desired (i.e. don't even bother calling unless you really, really enjoy frustration and being treated badly.) The player freezed up for the first time within a month of purchase and though we managed to 'fix' or reset it several times, now at eight months it's completely dead. What makes me even sadder is we purchased the travel speakers that fit the unit as part of the gift and now those are essentially useless as well since they were made to fit the V Plus.
Searching on fixes across internet forums shows this player is just a dog and very few are still working a year after purchase. I would never recommend this player to anyone, and I won't be purchasing another Creative product ever. I really dislike the overpriced and hyped Ipod and my FANTASTIC Dell DJ of eight years is no longer being made, so I guess it's time to try the Zune. | 1 | Today | How difficult is it to build an mp3 player that works? We bought a Creative Zen V Plus 2GB mp3 player and its been nothing but problems. The player froze in its first 5 minutes of use ( we were just navigating the menus to explore the device). Now you have to go find a small pin to reset the device. I figured it had a downlevel software version and we updated it. It still shouldn't have frozen out of the box.
After 3 weeks of use, it froze on the recovery screen. None of the buttons were responding, so we plugged it in to the computer. The recovery screen mysteriously went away. Too bad it still wouldn't respond to any of the buttons and was just stuck playing a random song.
Creative's support site has a link to a "recovery tool" and all it did was flash the software again. It booted again but none of the buttons are responding again. After one more restart, it won't even boot now.
If you do a quick search for zen plus reset in your favorite search engine, you will find a lot of people in the same boat.
It is pathetic that the support site has to have a "recovery tool" that they are "happy to introduce...that resolves the majority of player problems quickly." Thanks for bricking the mp3 player Creative. We will never consider a product made by them again. | 1 | Today | Awesome, But.... This Creative Zen V Plus really is exceptional: it has a great design, it's really easy to use, and it's a great investment!
However, as to be expected, this player has its flaws. I have owned two--the joystick of the first's broke, but fortunately it was within warranty and I was able to obtain another. I enjoyed the second one for about 8 months until a fairly common design flaw kicked in and the screen faded away. Now the display is completely black, and I'm navigating it blindly.
I won't give the player a bad review because it truly was awesome while it lasted, but I'm really disappointed with regards to its durability. | 3 | Today | Really good! This Creative player is awesome! Its pretty small, but the screen is rather big. The colors are wonderfull! So the style is really beautifull. The quality of the sounds also are the best, some my friends have tried this my player and said that the quality of this player are better than their players.
The player crashed on the ground rather hard a few times, but nothing happened. It still working and I have had no problems with it! | 5 | Today | Good. While it works. I bought my Zen V Plus about six months ago and have enjoyed it very much until it quit. It went from working fine to not working without any dropping or other abuse. The display froze up and multiple resettings would not help. I could be just picky, but my prior mp3 player lasted two years and probably still works except I bought this better(?) one. I now have a Toshiba Gigabeat. If it turns to trash, I will listen to the radio. | 2 | Today | Functional for reason I bought I read the reviews on several different MP3 players before buying this one. I bought it to listen to Netlibrary books because of the ability to bookmark. As other reviewers have mentioned it does have problems locking up although I have noticed it mostly occurs when fast forwarding or rewinding for a long time. The headphones that come with it are not as good as I would have liked as they have foam covers which seem to fall off rather easily. The manual also doesn't explain very well how to access additional menus which can be accessed by holding down the back arrow key which brings up an additional function menu depending on the screen. The battery life is OK, the buttons are small and I have inadverently recorded things when tring to adjust the volume, but overall the functionality is fine for the reasons I purchased it. | 3 | Today | Daughters very pleased This and the black Zen V Plus were bought for my two daughters for Christmas. Both were VERY happy to get the players for their present. Thank you for assisting me in making them both truely happy. | 4 | Today | Bad "good" product I bought this for my daughter at Christmas- it was so popular I ordered it from 4 different places and they all were out of stock before I finally got one. It didn't work right from the time we took it out of the box. As soon as we installed the software and plug in the MP# player, the computer wouldn't recognize it. It would freeze up and then the next day after charging, it wouldn't power on at all.
I read a LOT of reviews before purchasing it and was very excited about the product, but when it came time to replace it and stayed away from the Creative Zen. I just don't have time for trouble. If I had all the time in the world I would purchase another one. | 1 | Today |
