For those of you who want to use this for HDTV, I suggest a "Boostaroo," from "Radio Shack." It is a 3 way splitter amplifier. It doubles the
volume of the "540" and evens out the volume between front and center
speakers. It is easy to connect. Just plug the mini plug into earphone
input, then plug the green, black and orange plugs into the splitter. Using the earphone input allows you to adjust the volume with the TV remote. Also using the splitter amplifier, makes it not necessary to use
game control adapter they sell. The splitter amplifier sells for $25.49,
and can be used to boost Ipods, MP3s, CDs or just a 3 way headphone amp.
The splitter seems to add the mids that are needed. Some of the reviews
I read, said the center speaker is to loud. You can add a volume control
to the center speaker.If any one cares, my friend has $$$$$$$ in his
surround set up and I don't hear $$$$$$$ worth of difference. Better yes,

The only complaints are that you can't have true 5.1 surround sound if you are using the standard A/V (red/white) connectors and that the sub is close but not exactly where you'd really want it. Both are very ignorable... except when something is happening on one of the right or left rear speakers. It'll come from both of them. Quite annoying, at least for me.
I've heard some people complain that the cables are too short and that there are cables. Umm... you do realize these were made for a pc, not a tv/dvd. You could always get extensions, although the quality will probably suck (quieter/static/delay). Secondly who wants to watch a movie and find the batteries run out in the middle of it. | 5 | Today | Great System for a PC or small home theater
This system is very good for any computer set-up, and can even function for a small apartment home theater. The fact that the 4 satellite speakers can all be easy wall mounted makes it even more attractive. Unfortunately, my LCD TV is an odd shape on top which makes the center channel's clip useless. The quality of the sound is great, and the bass is very deep and convincing. The matrix mode is better than most I've heard, and although it may not be official Prologic II, it works the same way and does a good job on ProLogic tracks. The cons are slightly nitpicky, but it kept this from a 5 star rating. The remote is wired, which can be very annoying at times when the volume changes abruptly in the source and you have to get up to lower the speakers. Also, you cannot turn down the subwoofer individually. There is a bass dial, but it also turns down the bass in the other speakers. This is a problem when people live in the floor below, because the sub does carry through.
In case anyone was interested in using this as a home theater, I bought this in addition to a Creative SoundBlaster Extigy, which can be found for very cheap on the normal auction sites, and can decode Dolby Digital standalone (without a computer) from optical or coaxial SPDIF and output the three minijacks that these speakers require for their signal. So far, that solution has worked great and is the cheapest I could find for true surround sound. | 4 | Today | Great speakers for the price!
I bought these at my local BestBuy a little over 3 weeks ago and am thoroughly impressed with them. I have a decent computer but it doesn't have a 5.1 sound card. These speakers come with a "Matrix mode" so that even if you don't have 5.1, this mode will turn on all the speakers.
also, the sub that it comes with is awesome, right now I have the system cranked half way and the sound and bass is incredible. The sub really bumps nicely, as compared to similar products this size.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap, high quality speaker set for their computer.

These speakers are really just the best value you can find anywhere. They are just as great, if not greater, than some home theater surround sound speakers; and also a lot easier to use. For a truly affordable price, you get a wonderful surround sound system that is great for music, movies, and gaming. Plug your computer, laptop, or even your iPod into it and immerse yourself in a bath of sound. Matrix mode is a great way to get surround sound effect from a stereo output. If you are using a laptop that does not have surround sound output, you can easily purchase a USB external sound card, like I did, and then you will have a real 5.1 setup, but even without it Matrix mode is great at giving the effect of true surround. The subwoofer is great, adding a greater sense of depth to your sound even in music that doesn't have a throbbing bass. It makes even Renaissance lute music sound more realistic, and listening to Bach and Vivaldi through this setup is a blast! You can turn up the bass dial (which is really a volume control for the subwoofer) and not lost the clarity of the sound or the treble. That really impressed me. Oh, and cannon fire sounds (and feels) great, as does a Dodge Viper.

Logitech X-540 5.1 Speaker System
This is the second time that I'll be sending the X-540 speakers back. The first time, parts were clearly rattling around in the subwoofer. I suspect that the damage occured in transit as the packaging wasn't what you would call robust. The books that Amazon ships are much better protected.
Anyhow, I shipped that set back and requested a replacement set which just arrived. With the same damage to the subwoofer! That indicates to me that the build quality of the subwoofer could be a lot more robust even with the sparse packaging.

I got these speakers at an unbelievable price and couldn't be happier. These speakers are awesome with a nice and clear sound. The only thing i have a problem with is sometimes with the Matrix button on, the back speakers spit out a little unclear, but overall im happy with my purchase. | 4 | Today | Perfect apartment surround sound
I wanted to get a home theater system for my tv for a while now. It was suggested to me to try computer speakers. Well, since I have the Logitech Z-2300 at work (sweet stuff), I wanted to stay with them and get a 5:1 system. After careful research I decided on the X-540. What a deal! When I first plugged them in, I heard sounds on even commercials that I had never heard before. When I was watching a movie that had a thunder storm, I had to look outside because it sounded so real. I used to have to crank my tv sound up to hear it over screaming birds and an a.c. Now I have no problem. I don't have to turn these speakers up too loud and I can hear everything and my neighbors don't complain. Granted, the wires are a little short but that can be fixed with extensions.
