| Product Reviews from Amazon.com (Rating System 1 to 5) |
| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Blazing Fast Intermittent Connection All my other non-USB wireless cards work fine with my D-Link DIR-655 Draft-N router. My DWA-142s both disconnect so frequently they are useless. They are 1 floor down and 20-25 feet over from the router. There is no other radio interference. (In the countryside, no other houses near, no 2.4MHz phones or other wireless routers, disconnects don't coincide with microwave oven use, powered through UPS to avoid electrical fluctuations, etc.) I do have similar intermittent connection problems with 2 other older USB wireless network cards. I have to conclude USB cards just don't get a reliable amount of power through the USB ports. I bought these hoping I wouldn't have to wire the bottom floor of my house, but I've wasted so much time trouble-shooting them and they both have the same problem so I'm giving up and returning them. | 2 | Today | Wireless USB Adapter This is one of several wireless adapters that I have tried. I am extremely pleased with the performance of this adapter. The setup was very easy and I am experiencing great throughput. It is an excellent product and I am very pleased with my purchase. | 5 | Today | USB Wireless Adapter Once you get it working, it's great.Since it is "N" draft, I usually get 300Mbps.
I found it ESSENTIAL to download the new firmware from the D-LINK website.
It is a rather large item to find room for using with a laptop or notebook, plus the CORD, dangling around on it is annoying.
I WANT WIRELESS TO BE, JUST THAT, W I R E L E S S!
| 4 | Today | totally useless Unfortunately, I was not as lucky as some of the other reviewers. After installing the software and connecting the adapter, I could see other wifi networks in the neighborhood. I could not see mine, however, because I had disabled SSID broadcast on the router. Even though the installation wizard lets you manually enter the SSID, apparently if it cannot see it when it scans, it will not allow you to connect. It also would not let me set up encryption. You would think an install "wizard" would be able to do so.
I tried to run the D-Link network comm manager, but like one of the other reviewers, the program would not open. I spent about 15 minutes on hold before I could talk to a D-Link tech support agent. He did not know what could be wrong, so he had to go off for 5 minutes to get help, and then told me that the problem was that I had to enable SSID broadcast on the rotuer. So, I did that, and turned off encryption while I was at it, just to simplify things.
Well, the comm manager software was finally able to open then, but every time I tried to scan for networks the computer crashed and rebooted. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling things several times, and could never get it to work.
So, tomorrow I am returning the adapter (plus the new router) and exchanging them for a Linksys system. I have used Linksys before, and never had any problems. | 1 | Today | Multiple problems - maybe me or maybe product I have had the following problems with the Rangebooster. I would rate myself at a 7 out of 10 for installation and technical proficiency with Windows. First, the Rangebooster is not consistent in maintaining a connection; second, the Connection manager/wizard will not open; third, the D-Link webpage has upgraded software, and the software's executable file will not install when unzipped and selected; finally, inconsistent access to network - problems acquiring network address. | 2 | Today | Problematic When this was plugged into my USB port, I could not play music through iTunes or Windows Media Player without the music stopping or 'skipping' because of the power drain. I have enough RAM and other system resources. This unit probably needs its own power supply. It is absolutely useless to me.
| 1 | Today | Nice product This item works great. I get transfer rates that are 200 plus Mbps. Cons: The cord could be slightly longer. | 4 | Today | Works great with D-Link DIR-655 Router Works great with D-Link DIR-655 Router. Typically get 240-270 Mbps. On router, I turned on WPA/WPA2 compatibility. Then I used the Windows Zero Configuration Service rather than D-Link's configuration manager to connect. Previous complaints were that the driver caused stuttering in audio playback of media files. I haven't experience any of that stuttering. Perhaps D-Link's January 2007 driver update corrected this problem. | 5 | Today |
