| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Wonderful! Samsung SyncMaster 206BW 20" LCD Monitor I recently purchased (2) of these montiors for my home office and I have really enjoyed their quality and performance. They were purchased as well for a terrific price, compared to 'many, many' other monitors on the market with less quality. I would highly recommend this montior to anyone! | 5 | Today | Can't go wrong I bought one about a year ago, couple of months later a friend of mine bought the same one. About 3 months ago I recommended it to my nephew. Everyone's happy. This is a great monitor for the money. Ran Pixel buddy on all 3 monitors and no dead pixels. Samsung is a great monitor company with real bang for the buck. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. | 5 | Today | Samsung Delivers a Good Monitor I did a lot a homework before buying a monitor. I wanted a big monitor but didn't have $1800 for a 30" screen (my custom-built PC was $1800). So when I saw this Samsung model for only $269 it was easy to justify getting two screens, 40" of real-estate, at less than 1/3 of the cost of the 30" model.
I suspected the 2ms response was more hype than substance - possibly manipulated data for marketing purposes. Much to my surprise, it is an accurate spec. More to the point, it can handle my games with all settings on and set to high (i.e. resolution, anti-aliasing, etc.). Also, DVD motion is quite fluid, although it may be darker than some people prefer. Text is clear - but only at the receommended resolution (which also makes the font smaller).
The base is rather solid - despite what I've read elsewhere. Settings allow for a lot of customization, although I haven't really used that feature much yet.
Overall, I would buy another one, and probably will as I expand my monitor set up to 3 in the near future. | 4 | Today | Samsung 206BW This is my first LCD monitor. Color Seems to be good. Took a little to adjust but all seems to be fine. Color not as brillant as Plasma Screens but for non critical purposes this is a great low cost Screen.
If cost is no object and you are into Graphic work it would be worth seeing this and others in action before purchasing but top quality will require 2+x's $$ to get much better.
***** | 5 | Today | No More S/A/C I just bought this monitor over the weekend. The first thing I did when I opened the box was look for the letter after the model number indicating whether the panel was a Samsung panel or not. I was surprised that there actually is no character anymore. I don't know if there is another indication, but I'm not too concerned.
So far, after a couple days, I am really enjoying this monitor. I came from a 17" (16" Viewable) ViewSonic Flat CRT that I ran at 1600x1200. I was a little apprehensive about actually losing screen real estate, especially since my laptop has a 15.4" Widescreen that I also run at 1680x1050, but so far, I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm finding that I still have plenty of room vertically and a bit more room horizontally.
I've read other reviews talking about the fact that this monitor doesn't adjust vertically. Although I could see this being an issue, it has not been for me. The tilt has been sufficient with my monitor sitting on the main desk surface at the same level as my keyboard. I'm planning to buy a new desk that has a bit of a riser for the monitor and I expect this will make it even better.
I have a Samsung HDTV that has the same piano black bezel as this monitor and I suspect this monitor will collect dust just as the TV does, so if this is an issue for you, I would take this into consideration.
The only down side I've had so far is it seems certain menu functions are not available without installing the provided software (or are not available at all). I have this monitor connected to my Linux machine, so I won't be installing the provided software. Maybe I am missing something, but specifically the Contrast and the Auto Adjustment say they are unavailable.
I got this monitor for about $255 after rebates and all. I would recommend to anyone looking for a widescreen LCD monitor. | 4 | Today | Son-in-love My son, who is a university student in experimental digital arts, needed a larger screen with excellent resolution for his school work. He did a lot of research and told me this was The One he needed. I found the best price for the Samsung on Amazon. He was thrilled when he opened it on Christmas morning. Actually, he said he Loves it. | 5 | Today | Strong Product I did a lot of reading before settling on the 206BW. I purchased one a couple of days ago and have had nothing but good times with it. Like other reviews note, it is too bright. I've tried adjusting the brightness but haven't noticed its famous "buzz." I must confess, though, that my computer makes enough noise to cover it, should it be there. The stand is, as has been mentioned, crummy. It does the job but isn't anything special.
There is some light bleed-through at the top and bottom, but it has never been a problem, and I use a lot of Photoshop (who USES the very top and bottom of the screen, anyhow?). There is also some cursor ghosting, but I haven't noticed it while playing video games or watching movies. This is my first LCD monitor, though, so I might be a bit sensitive.
I've had a lot of success putting it on top of a Boston area phone book (roughly three inches). It puts the screen at a good viewing level (better than sitting on my desk), and I feel like the colors are more accurate.
In the end, I've determined that there IS no perfect monitor in the 250-300 range, but this one can be adjusted to meet my needs. | 5 | Today | Amazing Monitor! I am using this monitor as a T.V. for gaming and watching digital cable. In using a DVI-to-HDMI cable to watch T.V. and the Monster Cable Xbox 360 VGA cable, I have not experienced anything less then amazing. This is an outstanding gaming monitor; why pay +$400 for a 20in HDTV when you can buy this widescreen monitor for cheaper but still get better quality? Using a VGA cable for my Xbox 360, I play my games in 1080p on this monitor and the picture is perfect. Great product! | 5 | Today | Beautiful monitors Got a pair of these for a dual-head setup, and they're pretty amazing. Bright, decent viewing angles, and simply massive. Zero dead pixels, and classic Samsung gorgeous design.
Fantastic monitors. | 5 | Today | Clarity & Quality I am very pleased with the clarity & quality of this product, which I use for photos and MS Office applications. Delivery was fast and the monitor was easy to install.
