First of all unlike some of the newer buildings this is an all wood toy, no plastic, not even a spring or a magnet. It does not have a track attached to it and has a nice weight to it so it can be picked up and used anywhere on your track without reconfiguring everything. It works all on gravity and works surprisingly well, my two year old was able to get it right away and has has such a feeling of accomplishment ("I did it"). It comes with 4 barrels each with it's own label (oil, flour, etc). On the sides of the building is what appears to be a lamentate with well done graphics. This set also comes with one cargo car for the barrels. Since there are no magnets the barrels go from the loader to the car without the need to touch them. In summary it is well made, great graphics and simply looks better than some of the generic stuff. This one item is deserving of Learning Curve's claim of being a "Premium Wooden Toy". <br /> <br />Now for my long winded note to new parents buying Thomas: <br /> <br />1) Don't over do it at first, give the train set room to grow. Buy a simple figure 8 set with maybe an expansion pack. Then with each birthday you can add-on here and there. I've heard more than one parent say they can not even fit everything on the table because everybody bought the kid Thomas for every occasion. Besides there are other Thomas items such as books and video to get so tell people to buy him that instead. <br /> <br />2) Don't buy too many trains at first. If you have too many there will be no room to move, literally a traffic jam. (I over did and now can not buy him any more trains for future birthdays). I suggest buying just two of the main characters: Thomas is good of course and personally I like Gordon cause he is large, has two sets of wheels and comes with a tender. Then maybe an auxilary car like the tow truck/train Butch, or maybe Harvey with a cargo arm. <br /> <b 5 774 days ago No Longer Lifetime Warranty Beware. Per the Learning Curve website and customer service phone rep, Thomas Products now have a 90 day limited warranty rather than a lifetime warranty. <br /> <br />"Our products are guaranteed for 90 days from date of purchase under normal and intended use and service against defective workmanship and material. If our product fails to meet our limited warranty during the warranty period, we will, at our option, replace the product free of charge, or provide you with a replacement of comparable value" 2 774 days ago BARRELS of Fun! William was overjoyed to receive the Barrel Loader along with his train set. In my opinion, this piece is one of the most versatile destinations in the Thomas & Friends line. It can be expensive to add new destinations to an existing set, as the new piece often requires additional track, or a new layout all together. Most destinations come with track that is attached to the building, and is designed to substitute a straight piece of track. The Barrel Loader doesn't have any attached track, so it can be placed anywhere in a set. It can be set along side 3", 4", 6", or 8" Straight Track. I see this as an advantage over other destinations. <br /> <br />In addition, the Barrel Loader requires a bit more hand-eye coordination then some of the other destinations. Simply lifting the lever isn't enough to load the barrels. One must finesse the lever to get the best results. Too much gusto and the barrels fly off the building, not enough, and they don't load. I like this aspect of the toy for its developmental qualities. <br /> <br />I am delighted that the Barrel Loader entertains my son, and I recommend it to all engine enthusiasts. 5 774 days ago Good action addition The barrel loader is a good action addition to a Thomas layout. It is movable and holds up well. Curious that they include three barrels when the car can only hold two. In addition, I bought a car with red barrels on it to add to the fun. My son now enjoys loading these items onto his Thomas train. Good addition, though like most other Thomas items, it is priced a bit. 5 774 days ago great piece This is a great addition to your Thomas set because it can fit anywhere in the layout. I like the versatility. My son loves to load up the barrels.
