| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Classy looking notebook riser and passive cooler I'm recommending this over the Targus Podium Coolpad mainly because it's a bit cheaper, and looks a LOT better. I originally considered the Antec and even the Targus active cooling systems but after hearing the Antec in person, I just felt it was a) a bit too loud and b) not pushing enough air to really be effective. So I opted for the passive systems, and originally I was going to buy the Targus, but also seeing it in person, it just oozed with hokiness. Then I saw the APC Cooling Platform next to it, and immediately thought how much classier it looked. I own a 15" Powerbook, and the APC Cooling Platform performs well; the Powerbook sits snugly on the four cushions and so far no evidence of scratching. Although the pads are somewhat thin, I think they suffice for clearance between the harder plastic of the platform and the "prone to scratching" aluminum casing of the Powerbook. The platform also swivels in a 360 degree fashion due to 4 wheels arranged in a circular fashion beneath the platform. It's free to rotate in either direction, and doesn't take any effort at all. This may be useful for some people, but I don't make use of it at all. The laptop is well secured against the cushions, so there is no problem with your laptop skidding off. What the platform lacks, however, is the ability to adjust the angle/height of the platform. The Targus alternative does give you the ability to add or remove lego-type risers at the rear, which I'm sure will come in handy for some people. The 5 degree angle of the APC platform works for me, however. If angle adjustment is not that important to you -- you just need something to raise your laptop off a surface -- then I definitely recommend the much nicer looking APC Cooling Platform versus the Targus Podium Coolpad.

My laptop has a cooling intake on the bottom and I don't want dust getting drawn into the vent. The swivel is nice when I plug the USB from the printer into the back of the laptop. Laptop runs quiet and cool! I use it full time. | 5 | 785 days ago |
