While it heats well, the indentation on the inside is a problem. I love it becuase it allows the insert to fit snugly, but I hated working with it until I got one of those small silicone spatulas. It fits perfectly in the indentation and it's the same one I use with my food processor. I made cheese dip over for the Super Bowl and I was impressed with the insert's performance.
I see that All Clad now has a ceramic double boiler insert. I must live in a test market because I've only seen it at one store and it's not even on the store's or All Clad's website. I forget the cost but, you're buying the insert and the 2 qt saucepan as a set. The insert is removable. I like this original insert better, even with the indentation, because it's bigger.
| 3 | 754 days ago | Useful but so-so quality This is a very useful accessory to your All-Clad set, however, it is rather poorly finished compared to the other pieces (mine has some burrs and rough edges on the bottom surface). This piece is made in China and it is my opinion that All-Clad's Chinese-made pieces are inferior to the US-made ones (I own several of each and have compared many others in stores). Also, as with the Steamer Insert, there is some "slop" in the fit between the insert and the 3 or 4 quart sauce pan. | 3 | 754 days ago | So Far So Good, Handle a little narrow Just received this steamer. It works AWESOME for me. I have the MasterChef 5qt pot (or whatever the matching size is). I don't have any problems with the unit not fitting snugly around the edge. Corn steamed up evenly and quickly with a lid on. It's got a great capacity, I got 6 small ears of corn (cut in thirds) in the pot. The large size still allows for a large amount of water in the pot, which is nice when steaming a bunch of items. The holes are only in the bottom, not up the sides, helpful when trying to keep food in the steamer. | 4 | 754 days ago | happy chef The price is right for this broiler insert. The All-Clad 3 quart pot it fits is the pricey necessity. I also bought the steamer that fits the pot too. The quality keeps me coming back to All-Clad. My Hollandaise sauce comes out perfect- every time!! | 5 | 754 days ago | Does the job, but hard to clean As one of the other reviews state, the lip that allows the pan to sit on top of the 3- or 4-quart pot creates a recess inside the pan that makes it hard to get whatever you're working on out of the pan, as it gets caught in the recess. The interior should have completely straight sides. Otherwise, it does what it's supposed to. | 3 | 754 days ago |
