| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Great earbuds, but not for everyone. I've been using these for a few days now and find they work great. Personally I would give the E2cs a 5 out of 5; however, I believe they are not for everyone (so minus 1 star). The major problem with these is that you have to use them properly. They are inner ear noise isolation earbuds. This means that the best way to use them is to cram them as far as you can into your ear. This provides great sound and greatly lowers external noises. The bass reallys thumps when it is in there properly. When used properly, I have my iriver on volume level 8 rather than 15-20 that I usually have it set at with other earbuds. The first couple of days it will hurt like heck, but after you get use to them you won't go back. I believe the people that give these baby a 1 or 2 stars out of 5 either aren't using them properly (to far out of the ear canal) or have a problem with having things in their ears. So if you don't like things in your ear canals, like ear plugs, stay away from these. | 4 | 791 days ago | Great sound quality, just don't show them to your friends! Shure's E-2Cs provide excellent sound quality. Just don't show them to your friends with the orange ear sleeves in place. They tend to collect ear wax and eventually what you get is a disgusting mass of ear wax clinging to the ear sleeve. This is impossible to clean and can only be remedied by changing to a new pair of sleeves. Other than that, these things are great. | 4 | 790 days ago | Excellent Sound Quality with Limited Life Span I've owned my Shure E2c's for about 1.5 years at this point. At first, I didn't insert them too well though I've learned that the easiest way to insert them is to twist or wiggle the earpiece back and forth a little while inserting (I only use the "foamies").

While I like the sound quality and its compactness, I am now on my third pair because the first two broke from normal use(1st one -- sound stopped going to one of the ears with no visible damage or trauma, 2nd one -- the cable tore at one of the ears from no memorable trauma quickly leading to sound loss at that ear). To Shure's credit, they did replace both pairs at no cost other than shipping to me though it seems that the earpieces are too delicate. I think the thick cable makes it easier for the headphones to break -- i.e. at least in the case of the cable breaking, i think using the headphones in cold weather led to them cracking in several places.
I'd look into an alternative such as the etymotic or at least buy these with an Amex so you can get an extra year of warranty. | 3 | 790 days ago | I'll Keep It Short and Sweet The Shure E2C Headphones are amazing. The bass, as some have mentioned, is not weak and the clarity of the sound is great. It might not be comfortable for those with small ear canals, but that's the only problem with these earphones. Buy it and enjoy it. | 5 | 790 days ago | Incredible sound, very comfortable I absolutely love these ear buds! The sound is fantastic, and I can wear them for hours. I use them on my daily train commute and it cuts out the noise without blocking it all together. I've also used them on planes and they worked great to cut out the air noise.

The cord is super long, which is good and bad. I use one of those plastic pieces that you wind the cord around to shorten it a bit.

There are a couple of various types of ear padding (foam, soft plastic, firm plastic) so you can find just the right fit.

The other HUGE bonus is that the way they work, unlike other in-ear noise cancelling phones like the Apple ones, you can't hear yourself chew, and it doesn't make huge sound if the cord brushes your clothes.

Make sure you look at the instructions on how to wear them properly - it makes a difference! | 5 | 790 days ago | Shure E2C > ER6-i These are the best headphones for the price you can buy. Tried the out vs. the ER6-i's and they did everything the ER6-i's could do and it did it better.

-Awesome bass reproduction

-Good, loud sound

-Strong cords

-Comfortable in the ears (use the foam earpieces)

-When they say they "isolate"...they really do. Be careful to watch for traffic! :-)

-Great price (got them for $60 via Amazon)

CONS
-I have no complaints.

If you have an mp3 player, do yourself a favor and pick these up so that you can actually appreciate the audio quality of your player. If you don't have an mp3 player and are looking for a small one, I'd recommend the Zen Nano Plus. | 5 | 790 days ago | Not Bad, Not Great These are probably the best buds you can get at this price. Keep in mind that these are "sound isolating" -- NOT "noise canceling". The cushions take some getting used to and are probably going to be either too big or too small for most people. Sound is good but bass is lacking. | 3 | 777 days ago | Tinney, thin,no bass sound! I was duped again by some decent reviews of this product.Who are these people,do they work for Shure? These were terrible! Once I managed to get them in my ear,(figuring out which was right and left, not marked,)the over the ear wire system is a complete bummer and the sound was mind bogglingly bad, like a cheap transistor radio! | 1 | 777 days ago | Not as good as outside the ear I have these and tried them and they are ok, but I like outside the ear phones better. Reasons:

a. they isolate ambient sound better
b. they feel more comfortable
c. they don't add decibles to the sound you hear

Note that according to audiologists, inside the ear phones add about 7 decibles to the sound you are generating (because the phones are directly inside your ear canal). Thus, if you are listening at 90 dbl, it becomes 97. Potentially tinnitis producing !!

If you want to isolate ambient sound, such as in an office environment, I would suggest Bose or EX29 "Extreme Isolation" headphones. The EX29s are about $ 90 and are BIG, but they work very well. | 2 | 777 days ago | It works Okay, it works as much by sealing off the air from your ear as being an active device that pumps out polar opposite sound waves but I have been impressed. Obviously low frequency waves will get past it all day and it won't block high decibel noise but normal conversation and sound from a TV gets filtered out very well. | 4 | 777 days ago | An excellent purchase! These headphones are amazing, but if you cannot obtain a proper fit then they cannot be heard to their full potential. When i first recieved them, i immediatly popped them into my ears and started listening. they sounded a little tinny and flat, and didn't sounds too hot with rap, but i was still very impressed. after a few minutes, i began trying the different attached earpeices (the largest rubber- ball like attachment), and noticed an immediate improvement. the bass sounded much better, full and deep, without going overboard or distorting my music. i have read other user reviews stating the the bass was unresponsive or non-existent, but this is only because they haven't acquired a proper fit! the supplied peices should give allow anybody to acquire a proper fit. | 5 | 777 days ago |
