Do they all "tick" constantly...even when you aren't using the timer? This one does and it is annoying. Second, I had a piece of bread in there to toast. After 10 minutes I gave up. The bread was hot, but certainly not toasted. Third, under no circumstances are you to get even remotely close to this oven while it is on (or for that matter, 30 minutes after) as it is about as hot on the outside as it is inside. I thought it would get warm but this was hot enough to burn someone. I would be a nervous reck letting my kids (teenagers) use this (putting something on top, or even accidently touching the side). Even the front where you turn the dials is blistering hot. If you grab the dials wrong you get burned. I had it for about 30 minutes then put it back in the box to return. 1 766 days ago This machine was trouble. The first machine only toasted the bottom and not the top but customer service said they had their "own" instructions for toasting. Their way led to the edges burning. Then they said that I had to pre-heat the toaster and use the baking pan. I explained to her that toasting a bagel has traditionally been a lot easier. They sent a new model that did not work correctly either. Hamilton Beach said they would refund me up to $38 (I paid $60) but if I sent the receipt they would refer it to a manager to try and get full reimbursement. Get something else if all you want to do is toast and maybe heat something up once in a while. 1 766 days ago Barely Acceptable This toaster oven is nicely styled on its exterior, but its pleasures end there. <br /> <br />The box loudly trumpets "Stainless Steel" in its ad copy, and it's true that some is used on the appliance. It's on the top of the outer shell- just where it will catch the most kitchen grease and dirt and be hardest to keep clean, with painted metal and plastic everywhere else. Inside, stainless is not used at ALL- the rack is cheap chrome-plate, and the crumb tray and baking pan are that weird silicone-finish "non-stick" over steel. This material cannot be scrubbed, because to do so will breach the silicone coating, allowing the steel underneath to rust. I did this accidentally with a plastic-mesh Teflon scrubber- the coating is obviously very fragile. <br /> <br />The feel of the controls is shaky and vague; the knobs wobble a bit, and their detents are not very positive, so you don't get a satisfying "click" feel that tells you that you've reached a given setting. The timer must be used for all functions; though it has a "stay on" setting, there is no way to avoid its use as there is on other toaster ovens. My guess is that this timer is going to wear out faster than the ones on other units I've had. <br /> <br />Toasting performance is not great; each slice is unevenly browned, and there is a lot of variation between slices in front and rear. Baking performance is okay, but unlike my former Munsey toaster oven, this bulky toaster oven will not take a 9" round Pyrex pie plate- it touches the glass door. I'm concerned that the hot pie plate might create a hot spot that could crack the glass door, so I don't use this unit for some of the minor baking jobs my former unit excelled at. <br /> <br />This unit might be okay for someone who has never had a large toaster oven before, but of all that I've owned or used, this one has been the biggest disappointment. I'm especially taken aback at the squandering of stainless steel as a decorative element outside, when it- or 2 766 days ago Great product I ordered this product from amazon last year. So far I am happy with this product and no problem. Its on my daily usage for baking stuff. I like the feature to switch to broil/oven without flip the baking item. Love the temp control when on broil. I gave it 4 star because I hate the control knob. They should make it more visible so that I know where the knob is. I bought it because I have many Hamilton Beach products and have never had any problems. It toasts evenly and it is even great for brownies, cookies even pizza.
