This U3 stuff is total BS. It's absolutely incredible that any company puts software on a device, runs it on your computer without asking you, and makes it this difficult to uninstall. I didn't realize that this was how it worked before I bought it, but this is the last thing I ever get from SanDisk. <br /> 1 798 days ago Nice and Small This USB flash drive (The SanDisk 1 GB Cruzer Micro) is also overrated like all other flash drives. It's really 973MB - 36MB because of the software include. <br /> <br />It has a the bright red orange LED light that stay on and blinks on and off when deleting or writing files. <br /> <br />It also has a new program called U3 smart that pop-ups when plugging in the flash drive. With this program you can add and remove files or open up the other programs include. But I don't really like it. Still like adding and removing files the old way. <br /> <br />The retractable USB is very cool. <br /> 4 798 days ago Great Product. Compact and easy to use. You should have no problems unpacking this USB drive as long as you know how to work a pair of scissors. Drive works great! I would recommend removing the included software, you really don't need it. If you are not sure how to do that you can just format the drive just like you would a floppy disk. Product is nice and compact, I love the slider. Most of the older cruzers that i've owned had the little cap that would always fall off in your pocket so the sliding mechanism is a GREAT improvement. 5 798 days ago I like it - and I'm having fun First, I'm 81 and not in the smart class of your other reviewers, I don't think. I like SanDisk Launchpad, downloaded some free stuff and bought some from their "Add Programs". <br /> <br />I transferred some MS Word files which the Opensomething free software didn't read, so I bought the "ThinkFree Office" software and will try it. <br /> <br />I liked it enough to buy two more for my granddaughter who was #1 in Chem Engineeriing at VaTech, and for my Grandson-in-law who was #1 in Engineering at VaTech and now in his PhD program at Carnegie Tech - sory, Carnegie Mellon. (Carnegie Tech played TC|U in the firest Suger Bowl in New Orleans in 1939.) <br /> <br />But in my senility, I like it and am having fun! 4 798 days ago Example of Over-Engineering I bought this drive recently from CompUSA. I wanted to upgrade from my 512MB Cruzer. Well, I should have stuck with the 512MB until Sandisk came out with something better. Or I should have bought another manufacturer's flash drive, at a different store. What follows is a description of the SanDisk Cruzer Micro with U3, followed by a description of my interactions with CompUSA. <br /> <br />PROBLEMS WITH THE SANDISK CRUZER MICRO U3 <br />My first issue was getting the Cruzer out of its ridiculous packaging. You have to cut and tear away at the hard plastic case before you can get inside. In doing this, I ended up ripping apart the bar code. There were other defects with the product (read below). But when I tried to bring it back to CompUSA, guess what they tell me? They won't give me a refund because the bar code is destroyed (more on that later)!!! <br /> <br />The first two or three times I used this drive, the slider worked fine. But after about five uses, the slider would no longer stay extended. Every time I inserted the drive into the USB port it retracted, making it impossible to get the drive in without holding it together with my fingers. This was enough of a reason to bring the unit back to CompUSA. <br /> <br />But there's more... <br /> <br />SanDisk has installed a software application called "U3" on the Cruzer 1GB Micro. This software loads automatically every time you insert the drive. It load very slowly, and you have to sit there looking at the U3 startup window. When U3 finally does start up, it takes you to another window which you have close to continue working. <br /> <br />But that's not all... <br /> <br />After you're done starting up the U3 application, you will see that it also installs an extra drive in Windows Explorer. You have the drive for the Cruzer itself, but there is another one that appears as a CD.
