great iron for the price
This is my second T-Fal iron (I dropped the first one). I am happy with the performance of this iron. It heats up quickly, and has nice pressing action. It's hot at the tip to get into the creases and heavy enough to iron easily. My only complaint is the temperature control slide. It's hard to see where exactly it's at to get it at the right fabric/temperature, and it's also not real firm in its positioning. I liked the dial on my first T-Fal iron better. But for $35, it's high quality and definately on par with a more expensive iron.

actually like it better than Rowenta Professional!
I recently purchased this iron because my 2 year old Rowenta Professional, suddenly, without warning, passed away (cold - wouldn't heat up). I am very impressed (pardon the pun) with this T-fal. It glides like greased lightning, making ironing fast and easy. I figure I can get 2 and half dress shirts done in the time my Rowenta took to do one. No joke! It's hard for me to believe, too. I'll admit I've only had it a month and who knows what lies ahead. But so far it's been smooth sailing. My old Rowenta dripped and left water spots everywhere. This one maybe leaves one or two tiny little drips a shirt. And I love the way the water chamber works compared to the Rowenta (could not fill it without a water bubble developing and blocking the flow - thus spilling water all over the ironing board). The T-fal water chamber works like it should. I also love the fact that this iron is light weight. I used to think that in order to get a good crease on a shirt you need to have a lot of weight. Not true - this light weight iron definitely leaves a better crease than my heavy Rowenta!
This iron is also very well balanced and sits on the ironing board better than the wobbley Rowenta.
One more major attribute: the price!!! The Rowenta was two and half times more expensive! Excellent product for the $$$$.

Ironing made easy
We have had many irons. The T-Fal 1759 is the best and easiest to use by far.

A good iron stuck with a poor design.
The cons: (or "It's an ergonomic disaster!")

1. Hold you hand like your holding an iron and are ironing clothes.

Your hand is very likely at an angle where your knuckles form a slight angle slanting down to the heel of your closed hand.

If you grip the handle on the T-Fal 1759 the way its designed, your hand will be slanting thumb-downward, either putting your wrist at a sharp, uncomfortable angle, or forcing you to point your elbow at the ceiling.

I ended up with my palm on spot where the cord enters the iron body, well back on the iron. This tended to make for uneven pressure on the ironing surface.

2. Reaching the steam, steam shooter, and mister controls required me to change my grip slightly - many times I brushed the temperature slider, changing the setting. It should be a rotary control.

3. The cord is made of some extremely flexible material, but it is very, very, soft - enough to seem tacky. It was always catching on the clothes as I ironed, pulling them out of shape or coiling up - getting in the way. The cord material should be a bit stiffer and much slicker -- enough to slide across the clothes as you iron.

4. The water mister shoots a line of water about 2 feet long, and never where you think it should -- usually, it lands on some spot you've already ironed and not the spot you're about to iron.

The Pros:

1. It gets very hot, very quickly. The termostat light is a nice touch.

2. The steam pattern is perfect and the more/less steam control works well.

3. The burst-of-steam is great. On the higher temps, it is enough to almost lift the iron off the board! Keep your hands away from the edges of the iron when you do this on cloth that is not all that porous.

4. The non-stick surface makes for very easy ironing and appears tough enough to withstand glides over metal buttons and such.
<

WARNING!!! Don't buy T-fal
I bought T-fal's top of the line Avantis iron even though I only have light ironing to do. It broke in less than a year - losing heat completely. T-fal would not stand behind it. I wrote to them several times. They insisted on the original sales receipt despite the fact I had the charge on my American Express bill. They had no technical advise either. Read other Amazon reviews on their products breakdowns! I've paid half as much for irons that lasted for years. Avoid this turkey and this company. I'll never buy another T-fal product and neither should you!
