My girlfriend (the gift recipient of this item) has to use Mac and IBM interchangeably daily, and even though the packaging says Mac compatible the sandisk product support site says the following: <br /> <br />SUPPORT FAQ QUESTION: <br />Mac users: I recently purchased a Cruzer Micro with U3 and when I plug it into my Macintosh I get an Untitled CD and a Launchpad.exe icon on my desktop that cannot be deleted. Even if it is cheap it is still overpriced. 1 780 days ago Cruzer Micro 2 GB Like some others here I feel quite annoyed with this product. I bought it because it was small, 2GB and had no cap to lose - not that I have ever lost one but less is more in this case. I used it on the PC and became quite irritated with the U3 interface, it presented a layer of interference I did not need - I wanted a 2GB flash memory device that would mount and unmount like the others I use, but U3 was constantly in the way. <br /> <br />I also use a Mac and I am migrating more work onto a Mac laptop for a variety of reasons, but everytime I used the SanDisk on the Mac I got aq CD which wanted to be burnt - I could NOT get it to work properly. So finally, in frustration, I set aside some time to investiagate this and I read that this product is not compatible with a Mac. <br /> <br />I may be mistaken but I was sure I read that it worked equally well with PCs and Macs, but even so - this is a Flash memory drive. I would never have thought anything other than I plug it in and bang - 2GB storage! <br /> <br />Well. I'll read the package much more carefully in the future. I'll also keep the packaging for longer so I can return the thing. As it is, I have wasted my money. <br /> <br />Lawrence - displeased... 1 780 days ago Example of Over-Engineering The following review pertains to the 1GB version, which is the same drive physically and has the same software... <br /> <br />I bought this drive recently from CompUSA. I wanted to upgrade from my 512MB Cruzer. Well, I should have stuck with the 512MB until Sandisk came out with something better. Or I should have bought another manufacturer's flash drive, at a different store. What follows is a description of the SanDisk Cruzer Micro with U3, followed by a description of my interactions with CompUSA. <br /> <br />PROBLEMS WITH THE SANDISK CRUZER MICRO U3 <br />My first issue was getting the Cruzer out of its ridiculous packaging. You have to cut and tear away at the hard plastic case before you can get inside. In doing this, I ended up ripping apart the bar code. There were other defects with the product (read below). But when I tried to bring it back to CompUSA, guess what they tell me? They won't give me a refund because the bar code is destroyed (more on that later)!!! <br /> <br />The first two or three times I used this drive, the slider worked fine. But after about five uses, the slider would no longer stay extended. Every time I inserted the drive into the USB port it retracted, making it impossible to get the drive in without holding it together with my fingers. This was enough of a reason to bring the unit back to CompUSA. <br /> <br />But there's more... <br /> <br />SanDisk has installed a software application called "U3" on the Cruzer 1GB Micro. This software loads automatically every time you insert the drive. It load very slowly, and you have to sit there looking at the U3 startup window. When U3 finally does start up, it takes you to another window which you have close to continue working. <br /> <br />But that's not all... <br /> <br />After you're done starting up the U3 application, you will see that it also installs an extra drive in Windows Explorer. You have the drive for the Cruzer itself, but there is another one that appears as a CD. 1 780 days ago Don't be like Mike... it works fine I feel I have to write a quick review to balance that posted by an obviously upset patron ("Mike") who posted a review even though he didn't buy this particular model (he purchased the 512mb). Look, the bottom line is this thing works as advertised (it does say "WITH U3") and it works just fine. No problems to report after a month of us on my part. 4 gbs is a lot of photos and video to haul around and you can. And it is a Sandisk, best selling maker of flash memory products (haven't had one fail yet regardless of the type... CF, SD, the Cruzers, etc.). So, in the end... Don't be like Mike.
